It’s not like Barton is part of some grouping that brings his fandom; not EDF or Britain First (Barton threw his endorsement behind Jeremy Corbyn after previously refusing to vote for the wet weekend Milliband) nor I suspect the Red Brigade have that many members in East Bristol, nor I suspect the National Secular Society would pile in to Mansfield wearing such flags. Nor is it the excitement of signing a proven manager virtually guaranteeing success. He is not a proven successful manager, though he does talk confidently like he is. And none of the anti social and disturbing violence he commits seems to bother his fandom, in fact their flags celebrate it? (Admittedly I haven’t seen the flag with cigar on, just heard about it so may not be true, but it is true they are not just Bristol Rovers flags, his name is being added to them to prove there is this unfathomable fandom). Can the Barton fans please try to explain why you are.? This isn’t trying to take piss or anything this is genuinely trying to fairly sum up and like to know. Not sure that I quite fit the category that you want to explain this - I don't have a Barton flag or anything. To be clear, the violence does bother me, I know that these cases can be complicated and I'll wait for the legal verdict to come in. I guess you'd class me as a "Barton fan". When he first came to Rovers I heard from several players that, within a short space of time, it felt like a different club. There was so much positivity in the camp, Barton listened to the players with regards to things they were unhappy with, such as the medical treatment, and he took the bull by the horns and addressed it with those upstairs. When he was in a position to make changes to improve things, he did so. The players were clear about what he expected from them on the pitch, there were some players who weren't up to it, which was frustrating to those who were, once again, he dealt with that when he was in a position to do so. The players have respect for him because of what he's achieved in his career, so they listen and learn. Now we have a squad which has largely been assembled by Barton, and from what we saw today (more organised, seemed to know what was required in their role), and I think we'll see further improvements when the missing players are ready to play. No idea if this helps explain the "unfathomable fandom", but I've given it a go. I know there will be plenty who disagree, and, of course, they are quite entitled to have their opinion too, but I think it's been debated enough, so I'm not trying to set the sequence off again. I'm a Rovers fan as a result I've got no alternative but to support Barton, personally I would have employed a less controversial manager, I find the constant criticism of him across both forums becoming tiresome. It seems to me a fair number of posters will be happy if Rovers fail this season just so they are proven right and Barton is sacked.

I notice on Rovers facebook video, of JB's post match interview, the 79 comments are almost exclusively from Mansfield fans.
Mostly talking about the inevitable, but in amongst that there are some positive mentions of our supporters and Luke Thomas has several mentions as our best player.

You do have an alternative Droitwich. 1. If you are able to differentiate between your support of Bristol Rovers FC and your support of Barton - you can actively support the team, but not the manager. 2. If you are unable to differentiate between supporting the team and the manager - you may conclude you have to support both. 3. If you are unable to differentiate between supporting the team and the manager - you may conclude you can no longer actively support either. Sounds like you are a No.2. I'm a No.3. Feels like 'most' people are a No. 1. Which I respect.

I think we'll see a general improvement alround, over the next 5 to 10 games.Exact points total I would'nt like to say,but with good players returning, all gaining experience of each other and the challenges this division will throw at us,we'll pick up points. Then we'll climb the table. I mentioned it above,Anssi was absolutely miles off that cross and I'll be surprised if he shows such poor judgement again for quite sometime. A war of attrition, our season this time. Think Stalingrad. The reaction from some to yesterdays game has more to do with their annoyance JB is still Boss.Judgement blurred.Completely negative view of Rovers performance ,the toughness of fixture and potential of this group.A dark and heavy read. Football is not warfare or a "battle", it's a beautiful game and should be embraced as such. Barton's reputation precedes him everywhere he goes - and no wonder. I agree that football is not warfare and comparing a game to a battle is sad and ridiculous. I also agree that when someone has a reputation then a lot of people will make their mind up about that person before they even meet them,in Rovers case that could be a bad thing if referee's are influenced by Bartons past.

On the suject of Barton/Rovers flags, some Rovers fans will love Bartons notoriety, certain people love anything notorious or outrageous,Stone Island clothing, certain breeds or types of dogs, facial tattoo's or piercings anything that will get them associated with 'badness'.

I’d love to sit into Stone Island’s marketing meetings. They have identified a market and know they don’t have to spend that much on advertising as they have the sheep loyalty of their followers. They don’t even need designers - just someone who can sew a ribbon on the arm of a coat ot jumper.

1. What did we expect Barton to say after the game?
2. Is he wrong about the ref?

Shambles of a club but they are MY club.Great to see you back 02. Was asked what improvements have been made to the Mem since we last allowed crowds in but I don't expect to see too much next Sat to make my jaw drop. Still,my mate supports Chelsea but he too has the anguish of keeping up with the Man Citys of this world and says how lucky I am to support the club of my birth. Reckon Eastville in the late 1950's was on a par with the Mem now!!!!! Will there be a new tent at the South Stand or better facilities for visiting fans? Think perhaps I know the answer to that.Still,my club for over 60 years so unlikely to defect now even though I have been to better grounds in Afghanistan!!!!! Thanks, Coly....glad you're still around. Any reason for the name transition? After 50 years in Stafforshire,we have moved to Colyton in Devon.

It should be, but I was being ironic/ignorant/indignant referring to a stitch up! Really not meant as supercilious but I do still find some words odd as English has always been my 2nd language, hence the ? Surely it’s sew? However, back to the game. I went with my mate and our two 15 year old lads. Throughout the game the officials were awful. Just before the corner that led to the pen the lineswoman inexplicably gave a free kick right in front of us after Hoole, who was superb, had beaten 2 players and was on the way to crossing a dangerous ball into their box. The stupid cow flagged when the 2nd player threw himself down and the ball was quickly moved forward and they got the corner and pen. Can’t comment on the red card or pen awards because they were right up the other end. It did seem to me the ref was itching to give everything Mansfield’s way, a real lower league homer. Let’s be fair, we try and influence the ref our way at the Mem. I thought we did OK, obviously missing several players but we competed and I think there’s more to come from the squad. We left after the pen went in because our train was at 1550. For those that don’t know, the railway station is perhaps 500 yards from the ground and visible on the hill. We walked out of the away end to cross the retail park and walk up to the station and outside were met by a phalanx of Police. We were stopped and told we had to wait for a Police escort to the station. I told the cop in front of me we wanted to go to the station and he refused to let us past. I told him our train was in a few mins and he said we wouldn’t be getting that train. The next wasn’t for an hour and I tried to walk past. I was pushed back and told to wait or I would be arrested. I asked why we were being illegally detained. What legislation they were using etc etc and that we would be safely on the station before the Mansfield fans even got to the area behind the away end. My mate was making the same comments to other officers, as were a number of other Rovers fans. One bloke with a lad pointed out his car and said he just wanted to get in it and drive home! Realising I was not getting anywhere I walked along the line until I found an older cop. I asked if I could walk to the station and he said of course. I went back, pulled my mate away from his discussion and the 4 of us walked past this sensible guy and went to the station without incident. We stood on the platform and watched as, a few minutes later there was an almighty kerfuffle on the road outside the ground where a huge body of Rovers fans were boxed in by Police while some Mansfield’s idiots were trying to have a pop. There were sirens blaring and other Police vehicles could be seen screaming up. We got on the train and left them to it. The whole problem was called by the stupid Police, kettlling all the Rovers fans so the Mansfield idiots could come and have go. If we had meekly done as we were told we would have got caught up in all that Sh1t and would have missed our train. I don’t know if they’re not used to dealing with large away followings, but I thought the Police operation was a shambles.

Those at ground, anyone in away end boo their own manager in wall of boo as he appeared? Nope, the players and management team were given a resounding reception. Those who travel away go to support, not snipe and make snide comments from behind a keyboard.

I've heard of a few nasty goings on yesterday, particularly an older Rovers fan, standing on his own by some traffic lights, who was attacked from behind a group of young Mansfield idiots. Police filmed it, but took no action, poor bloke ended up on the floor with his head bleeding. Rovers and Mansfield fans who witnessed it from nearby went to speak to the police, but were waved away - they weren't interested in witnesses, presumably because they'd filmed it all. I don't like the police tactic of letting these incidents play out while they film them, and then make arrests at a later date, the chap who was attacked deserved better from them at the time.

Actually, I've never booed my manager or team... Tbf, I vocally supported BG away, even though I thought he was the worst manager I had seen. There's something about the support mentality of going away, usually there's more singing and vocal support (yesterday was 75% of match mass singing as loud as I can remember).

Police yesterday had to deal with handbags on the penalty incident in the right hand corner, which was farcical.... and one really tough hard guy/gal threw a smoke bomb on the pitch! It's all a bit ridiculous, and the police policy appeared to join in with the farce. A police farce, if you like... Yea, it's sew.

Sew means to repair or make, as in sew a dip or sew a dress whilst Sow means to plant , as in sow the seed etc. Sow can also be a noun to describe a female Pig, where the word is pronounced differently. I’m sure you know what I mean!
