Managed by Nigel Clough
Finished a poor 16th last season but do not be deceived.
Won 5 in a row at one stage under Clough, then lost only 2 of the last 12 games, admittedly drawing 6 of those and winning 4 of the last 5.
I am expecting Rovers to lose, especially if we do not sign a striker by then.
They only won 6 home games last season, but beat Cov 1-0 this week.
Menayese has gone on loan, Ollie Clarke played 33 times last season, Ryan Sweeney 36.

We did the double over them in the return to L2 season 2015/16.
Head to head Rovers 22 wins Mansfield 16 Drawn 13
They have won 1 in the last 11 and they forgot their kit for that one....

We have played Mansfield Town 51 times, Won 22, Drew 13 and Lost 16 - we have won 6-2, 6-0 & 5-0, drew 4-4 twice and lost 5-0 once.
The 30th of September 2003 i remember well as we were 0-3 down at half time with a certain Craig Disley scoring 2, lost 1-3. (8,451).

Letting Ollie Clarke go was another brilliant idea wasn't it.
The midfield certainly improved without him, not to mention him chipping in with a few goals every season.

Ollie had one good season when I believe he won Rovers player of the year, but other than that he was consistently inconsistent. He had a terrible habit of dwelling on the ball, thinking of his next pass & loosing possession .

Should be a pretty tight game, would be nice to get a win for a change on the opening day, might be a tough ask but who knows ? we could all be surprised.
The last time I was at Field Mill was on the 31st of January 1987 when we were royally shoed 5-0 with a certain Keith Barrington Cassells getting a hat trick....the late Tim Carter was between the sticks for us that day although no blame whatsoever could have been apportioned to him for any of the goals as our team and the defence in particular were proper pants !

It's not as if he's in his mid 30s, a 1 year offer was as good as holding the door and asking if he wanted a hand getting his bags into the boot of his car. Poor decision letting him go.

When you think of all the expensive mistake signings given 2 year contacts recently it is nuts that they wouldnt give an extra year to OC. I admit that he could be inconsistent but on his day he would have been the first name on the team list for me,always gave 100%

Remember the last time we played Mansfield on opening day of season. Was absolutely manic as almost 2000 gasheads turned up and we drank a pub dry.

Closing opponents down quickly, turning the ball over, never shirking a tackle, experienced and entering the 25-31 period of his career and great at hitting target from long range is definitely not what any side needs. Would have been dreadful for us last season, where the successes we did have were based upon getting rid of the likes of him. Please replace Clarke with Liddle, Grant, the good but broken Ogogo, or ANY of Barton’s reset midfielders IMMEDIATELY please.

The critique Ollie recieved from quite a few Gasheads I found unwarranted and it spoke more of them, than him.
I hope he has a great season with the Stags.

Letting go of OC wasn't the problem, it was replacing him with poorer players that was the problem.

Difficult opener of course, but one to be enjoyed.
We have to wait and see how this JB squad goes over these first 5 to 10 games. My opinion is it may take a few games to get going, but once that's achieved we'll challenge.
Bearing that in mind I won't be surprised if we get beaten by the Stags.Nigel Clough is an experienced and wise Manager .He has good blood of course.
I'll be happy with a point,3 would be lovely.
The Gas Army of over 1000 can play more than a cameo role.
Come on Rovers!
