Just got back... Well, well, well... sometimes it feels right, and today, the structure and set up, the balance and tempo felt right. From the start. Everyone contributed (except I struggled to see what Coutts brought to the game) in a performance to be proud of and a win against higher placed opponents that definitely came with an agenda. Belshaw made a crucial save from a poor backpass from Alfie (?) Not quite sure, 1 on 1 and that set the style and standards for next 98 mins.... Connor has a torrid time, the big centre forward gave him a difficult day....he was deemed culpable conceding the penalty....many thought the ref was harsh giving it, but tbh I think we can't complain, you can't take out the standing leg of opposition (back to goal) in the box without offering the ref to consider a pen and if it was other way round, we'd all be shouting. MOM correctly given to Josh Grant....a brilliant display of left wing back play not seen since Leahy and unlucky not to get a second with his shot rebounding off lost. But my joint MOM was Anderson.... just never gave up, what an engine. 2 assists because his persistence played off for Evans goal, and sublime cross deep for Grant finish. He was past his man and in too before being fouled which resulted in bookings (confusingly, for us too!?). And his threat was ever present. Nicholson and Evans ran solid. Nicholson especially, he chased everything. But for me, the main noticeable tactic was to push on from the front. We were hassling them throughout and pushing wing backs on to make a 5 attacking or forward enough to be considered a threat .....and why? Well, for me.....we continued to keep 2 up front. Nicholson and Evans. Even after the sending off. Even when Luke Thomas came on. The key is playing 2 natural offence players higher up the line. It didn't work all the time, as obviously Nicholson/Evans aren't naturally playing off the shoulder of the last defender, so we were caught offside a lot in first half, but the premise was there and we were very pro active in our approach and play. Well done JAB and management team - it worked well - and morally won the battle against time wasting first half (the ref had to tell their keeps), gamesmanship of number 17 and others, giving us a thoroughly deserved 3 points and a strong performance to be proud of. More of the same next week v Trannies please as they lost today and keeping as many fit is surely a priority...? Enjoy your Sunday lunches Gas, this weekend is a good one to be a GasHead! Hear hear! Couts keeps possession ticking along nicely. He's abit like a lower league Whelan.Does fine imo.

Speak for yourself. We won today and fully deserved to. However, it's the players that many of us are behind, not the current manager Barton out! That's the thing isn't it. A huge % of supporters have zero interest in club politics and just want to watch a game, preferably with friends, maybe have a drink, it's a recreational and social pass time. I'm convinced that the overwhelming majority of Rovers' supporters, if they were aware of who and what Barton is, would want no part of supporting him in any way, shape or form. Players, managers and owners all come and go, the fans are there for life, of course they follow the shirts, who want’s to get involved with club politics ? It’s not their bag.

Whelan does what you about ticking along, but I saw Coutts give ball away twice today and go down "Injured" late on tactically. Hey we won and we won well, so what do I know? ....but I see Coutts as weak link in team atm!

When we have either Thomas or a forward fit would prefer Evan's a little deeper instead of Coutts.

I thought - as surely nearly all in attendance did - that Rovers were very good today. In the scenario we can become consistently that good,I am quite confident we'll make the play offs or even top 3. I think the team ethic thing very impressive and hopefully we can get better again. Absolutely feeling so much better about our chances today, compared to say after the Swindon defeat. I say - again - give Joe time and he'll succeed.

Agree with you re club politics. Supporters should leave that to the board and the support groups. However having opinions on a manager especially a vile individual like the one in place now is part of being a supporter and not club politics. I can't separate his victims of violence from his ability to manage. If others can then that's for them and their consciences. I can't change that but I can continue to withdraw my support after over half a century.

I was afraid this would happen. We win 2 games we're not supposed to and are finally looking like turning it round which is down to Barton But we are still complaining Entitled to opinion blah blah blah Careful what you wish for We could win he Champions League and I still wouldn’t support a convicted Thug and wife beater. I wish for him to be erased from the club, not too much to ask if our owner wasn’t such a chocolate teapot. Still on a forum....

Great performance today against an inform side, first time in along time I came away from the Mem happy not only about the result but also the effort & commitment the players put in. Like to know how many miles Nicholson , Finley & Evans covered today & what a shift by Josh Grant in the left wingback role, deserved the Man of the match award. Hopefully when we get a few of our injuries cleared up we can really start looking upwards & mount a playoff challenge.

Yes I have to say, I tend to agree.....but your post mentioning consistency is very pertinent. All things being equal, some of the players today might not have even got a sniff of first team. We have had a dysfunctional team spirit that has stuttered up until recently. But it turned around and the catalyst was Walsall, but Bradford, Harrogate, today (matches I've actually seen), and Oxford, Colchester have brought varying styles of matches, but a fantastic feeling of what it is to be a GasHead. Endeavour. Passion. Fight. A feeling of belonging. Something I think we lost our way a bit since 2 years ago. Where I think we need to sort out our own lives is Swindon, Newport at home, and our nemesis Exeter (didn't see either match there), where we have been awful and post match JAB comments patronise the paying public. Today is very encouraging, anyone whom was there would have clapped off the team at half time for their efforts, isn't that what it used to be like no matter what the score? If we beat Tranny on Saturday, we have potential to move to 9th. With a dysfunctional system (we've only just found grant as a lwb even though he's been with us ages, and Hoole a very competent RB who is in fledgling season) and a ton of injuries? That's the Rovers way, and who would bet against it? What I saw today was us compete fairly with a team placed 3rd in the table and deserve our win. We switched to a back 4 after Grant went off and stuck to 2 up front. We kept our tempo, pace in attack and finding space along their defensive line.......but did anyone notice one or two of the biggest changes? We are leaving at least 1 up front on defensive set pieces? AND... We aren't f@rt @ssing around with the ball in and around our own box on goal kicks..... something similar happened today from Northampton leading to our second goal?

I agree with comments regarding Coutts. I can't see what he brings to the team either.
No complaints today though, we won and The Mem was a fun place to be. It's been a while... Happy days :-)

Just got back from the game. Wow, what an afternoon! I so needed that! :-) I felt we were the better team throughout the game, and thoroughly deserved to win. Josh Grant was superb, fully deserved his goal and man of the match. Dangerous on the left side of the park, full of energy and creativity. Connor Taylor was magnificent at the back as always. Fantastic goal-line clearance to seal the three points right at the death. He was unfortunate with the penalty, looked soft from the South West stand. James Belshaw with his usual excellent performance in goal. Sam Nicholson ran his socks off. Glenn Whelen had a good game, what excellent distribution he has. Superb balls out to Grant. Felt his sending off was a bit harsh, was a wild sliding tackle though. This was a superb team performance, you could really see the hunger and desire out there. Finally, it was so good to hear The Mem loud again today, the atmosphere was rocking. Like I said, I so, so needed that! UTG. There was singing in East Stand and Terrace! (Along with the Thatcher's End) It felt like a Gas win, hard earned, fair and team orientated... I was just behind Barton. Several chants of "Joey give us a wave" (acknowledged), "Joey Barton's Blue and White Army". Tremendous ovation for him as he milked the crowd at end. Lots of players hugging him at the end. Maybe I was imagining it...or maybe the Thatchers End doesn't count? To be fair, I have not heard one negative word directed personally at him in last 3 home games that I have attended.

It's been such a long time - GC era - that we've applauded the lads at ht and significantly today we were actually losing, but we all recognised the shift the lads had put in. I did'nt know about us beginning to leave two upfront. It worked. Where I was stood ,in line with the halfway line, myself and a few others joined in with Joe,when he ordered the defence to move forward a few yards, just to help his message recieved. I'm not up on alot of the players, but I wonder which of the injured, once fit will probably be selected? After today, they'll have to impress in training

I expect the court cases to be the defining moment for some people but obviously not those who hero worship him. Perhaps they believe his wife should have just shut up and accepted her punishment like a good wife. Have a great and safe weekend with your loved ones people, I'm disappearing until the court dates arrive.

Happy days :-) Sorry disagree. Today was the first time that we consistently played the ball through midfield. Coutts kept the ball moving; simple is best. Manager singled him out for a superb performance. Fluidity was the real difference today and this is because the side is gelling. Also having some pace up front enabled the midfield to move the ball into space.

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, good to see so much positivity from all sides of the ground - all the players put in a good shift, and you can see that moves are now transferring from the training ground to matchday. Delighted that Grant got MOM, he was superb today. Onwards and upwards.

Strange penalty decision. Rovers looking good!Giving Cobblers problems. Crowd applauded team off at ht. Attacking Thatchers end in 2nd half. Everything to play for! Replay showed ref was spot on with pen decision
