Tough trip up north for the Gas - safe trip to those making the journey. 7th placed Hartlepool are favourites 11-10 Draw 9-4 Gas 5-2 There was a concern from many that there wasn't enough goals in the side. Currently played 6 , goals for 5.

A defeat on Saturday I fear, we just don't seem to have enough coherence at the moment.

Hartlepool manager Dave Challinor played as a centre-back for Tranmere, Stockport and Bury, has a good managerial record at Colwyn Bay, Fylde & Hartlepool.
Brian Clough was in charge of Hartlepool(s) United in his 1st outing as manager, they were perennial strugglers and had repeatedly had to apply for re-election to the Football League, having finished in the bottom two of the Fourth Division five times in the past six seasons. Such was the club's perilous financial state, Clough had to tour local pubs raising money to keep the club afloat and even applied for a coach driver's licence to drive the team to away matches.
On 15 November 1966, the then chairman, Ernest Ord, who was known for playing mind games with managers, sacked Clough's assistant Peter Taylor saying he couldn't afford to pay him anymore. Clough refused to accept it so Ord sacked him as well. However, there was a boardroom coup where they refused to ratify the two sackings and which instead saw Ord ousted as chairman. Both Clough and Taylor were reinstated.
They play at Victoria Park and it has a capacity of 7,856, this has been their home since 1908.
In recent years the most visible fan of the club has been Jeff Stelling, presenter of Soccer Saturday on Sky Sports. The rock star Meat Loaf, Janick Gers of the metal band Iron Maiden, MP Peter Mandelson, Christopher Timothy, Football Ramble presenter & radio host Pete Donaldson and film director Ridley Scott are also fans of the club.
Hartlepool have retired the number 25 shirt worn by Michael Maidens who tragically died in a RTA in October 2007 aged just 20 years old.
BRFC have played Hartlepool 23 times winning 9, Drawing and losing 7 each. The 5th May 2007, Lambert's late 86th minute goal grabbed a very late play-off place that year.

Oh! How boring putting the Walker/Lambo highlights on? Huh, where did it get us?! Glory hunters! Everyone remembers where they were that day...
What about my lasting memory of Hartlepool....1994 on of the last away games of the season? Stood in that windy away end!? ... and we lost,of course. But I was there .... amongst 1400 others!
Now that's commitment.

A defeat on Saturday I fear, we just don't seem to have enough coherence at the moment. Agree. It's one of those games where a point would be a bonus. A draw would be a good result in this situation, a win would be really good. Later on in the season (assuming that the players will "gel" and the promotion predictions are accurate) we might expect to win this game.

I agree with you Richmace, but it makes me sad to think I see a point at Hartlepool as a bonus

A defeat I feel, we may have a moment and score a consolation but I am resigned to a 3-1 scoreline hoping to be proved wrong.

A few Wikipedia snippets.
Hart-le-pool ("The Pool of the Stags") becomes very apt whenever Mansfield visits.
Cameron's Brewery is based in the town and produces Kronenberg, Fosters and John Smiths. Much to the expected dissatisfaction of the CAMRA followers on this board. Note you struggle to find Fosters in Australia.
Monkey Hangers is a nickname derived upon a legend that during the Napoleonic wars a monkey, which had been a ship's mascot, was taken for a French spy and hanged.
Apparently, Hartlepool is also known as the Burnham-on-Sea of the North. I made the last one up.

Not had a good look at Belshaw yet,but if he's better than Jakola I'll be surprised. Great to have a decent reserve GK at last, but i would be tempted to select Anssi,if fit.
I would select Whelan too.Hopefully he can help the defence, middle and forward line.In the scenario he's fit and hungry to play,he can be a vital signing.
Spine looking stronger.🤞

3-0 Gas. Just got a feeling. They are missing a key player but have a good home record. We have to start well otherwise I fear we take one step forward one back again.

I agree with you Richmace, but it makes me sad to think I see a point at Hartlepool as a bonus They are not an underperforming team and as such a point there would be ok.

It’s the reality of where we are. If we got a point at Forest Green I’d be cracking open the champagne and offering my apologies to Joeys fan club on Gaschat

Exeter was a freak result. Tomorrow is another test.

Shoots. Shute is in the scrabble dictionary and is worth 8 points. Also an alternative spelling of chute - as in a sloping channel or slide for conveying things to a lower level. Take your pick which definition best suits your optimism level
