I’ll say all this up front. Today isn’t important or indicative. Very good today or disappointing, it doesn’t mean anything in the bigger picture.

We are going up this season, and it likely begins today against impoverished Stevenage.

But it doesn’t have to.

Not many clubs will match our huge following home and away. FGR don’t even run away match coaches. That will be a factor.

Every pundit and bookie loves our summer recruitment. They aren’t wrong. We have plenty of quality. Plenty of depth to a large squad too, so many teams inside this division, struggling post Covid like Stevenage are, just can’t match our all round quality, quantity, support.

We are a powerhouse in this poky league this season, it’s just a question how quickly we can get the wheels going and the points racking up.

So today on its own isn’t important. Very early days.

But it would be nice though to begin it today. Show some of that power today.

Even then, good performance and convincing result today isn’t on its own indicative. It’s how we follow up today’s good performance and win in the coming weeks. One good performance to three average ones isn’t good enough for automatic or even play offs, it needs to be three convincing performances to one average one.
