Good win IMO, some very slick passing in stages, remember how we used to pass it.
Walsall had a go but the result was about right.
Winning is a good habit, nice to see a strong line up

As Sven used to say, first half good, second half not so good.
Some nice football and passing in the first half, great goal from Hanlon, but poor ball retention in the second half.
Far too many silly free kicks given away again, especially as Walsall were a pretty limited sort of side,
They were a threat from set pieces, so why give them so many opportunities to put the ball in the box?
Glad they took the big striker off in the last 15 minutes, as he was a handful.
Grant gave away two free kicks on the edge of the penalty area in about 30 seconds in the last couple of minutes.
Great to win an FA Cup game, especially away from home, more useful dosh.

Poor in second. we are okay in our pressed up rhythm, as soon as we go deeper and drop tempo we are like a car that has stalled and cant restart. And it’s no one off, every time we try to defend something, lead or keep tight against bigger side we look poor. It was long before the Walsall pressure, ages before their goal, YOU COULD SEE IT COMING. stop dropping so deep! just play like you were doing. Get the wing backs forward, get the width, stick to your tempo. it’s painful isn’t it. |

One thing perhaps sorted for 3rd tier games,from our FA Cup game.
Did'nt see the game,but I suspect we're learning/learnt,that Ali Koiki is our best left flank player.
Maybe?

I thought the best team won and although we allowed them back into the game in the last 25 minutes, we were never under any real threat once we secured 2-0 status.
For me, m o m Hanlan. Wonderful goal and proving he can score from most situations.
Some really nice passing, movement and tracking, flank play and moving the ball out from our own half. We look more comfortable on the ball than back in September, it's a definite improvement.
I thought Adebayo for them looked useful, and it was nice to see Sincs plying his trade as I think that's the last we will see of him as he's in the twilight of his career and was thoroughly unnoticeable yesterday.
Well done BG for masterminding our passage to round 2, but please sort out the defence....we are soft in the air around the penalty spot where no one takes leadership and we will be punished by more ruthless finishing in 3rd division...
Good result though and potential banana skin avoided.
