I'm surprised football pitches haven't had their dimensions standardised. Isn't it, mind? Fairly standard at the elite level. FIFA category, presumably. But a real football pitch is something... 100-130 yards in length, 50-100 yards in width. I always thought it would be eccentric fun to build a minimum length, maximum width pitch of 100 yard square.

Doubtful, I think. 13.2 Clubs must register their pitch dimensions with The League prior to the start of each Season. It will be misconduct on the part of a Club to alter its pitch dimensions during a Season without the prior written consent of The League, which consent will only be given in exceptional circumstances. The League may at any time require a Club to submit a report from a qualified independent source certifying the pitch dimensions. www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/section-4---clubs/

I didn’t know that you couldn’t change mid-season. I knew that pitch sizes vary but thought clubs had the power to change them. UTG!

Reffed at Maine Road once. The pitch there was the largest in the league along with Port Vale.I was so far behind play I whistled for a free kick against a player called John Deehan just to get my breath back!!!!!!!!!!! Think Eastville was one of the smallest along with Halifax.

States that the length must always exceed the width but not by how much!!!!!!!

I rmembered something from a while back - I think possibly when IA was our manager. There was some discussion about our pitch being narrow but having to stick with it for the season.

Andy legg who Olly tried to sign, done wicked whippy in ones for Cardiff. Hoping Messi will do some for us. the best I remember for gas was more a routine, Campbell with the dead ball, lambert and disley double act for the goal.

Man City widened their pitch in the early 90s because they had Beagrie getting out wide to supply the ammo for Quinn and White

Think Eastville was one of the smallest along with Halifax. According to the Observer's Book of Soccer 1978 edition the old Belle Vue Ground (Doncaster Rovers) was the largest pitch area at 118.5 by 79 yards. I think Maine Road was next at 117 by 79. Gigg Lane (Bury - RIP) was 116 by 80. Vale Park was a mere 116 by 76! Halifax and Swansea were the smallest at 110 by 70. Eastvile was shown as 112 by 76 although I'm sure it soon shrunk to 110 by 70. I'd have to check an old Rothman's Yearbook for that. Ah those were the days...

I think Eastville was one of the bigger pitches, but then got reduced to the bare minimum when they started up the Speedway around 1976-8, if I remember correctly.

All I know is: that pitch was big enough to swallow up my digital watch one eve/early am after a millionaires club binge... It's probably antique now. In an aisle of IKEA....
