When I saw the goals I posted this on gas chat last night: “Have just seen the goals. That was a seriously good header from Pitman. No luck and a great finish. Had that been on MOTD Shearer and Wright would have been drooling over it. He knew it was coming and got his body in the perfect position to put the ball into the one place the keeper couldn’t get it. Brilliant! Without thinking too much I’d say that’s one of the top 20/30 goals I’ve seen for us. It probably won’t be remembered but it was a typical striker goal. Well done Brett.” I watched them a couple more times and each time Pitman’s header gets better. Great cross and assist coming form a very important player for us currently, Evans. UTG! With no actual scientific proof behind this, I think that's a classic kind of goal that Pitman scores these days drawn on EXPERIENCE... He is our version of akinfenwa!

o2o2, like you I’ve no real evidence but having seen him over 15 years including the two spells at AFCB he’s been underrated for much of that time. Because he can’t run, looks unfit and I’ve sat in the stands at AFCB and listened to the crowd get on his back moaning about his idleness, his puffing and panting and giving up on lost causes that I know he’s not everyone’s cup of tea. But when that ball gets into the area and it’s crowded it’s amazing how many times he’s on the end of it. My friend who I’ve sat next to for this time would just moan about him all the time then in the last 20 minutes he’d pop up with a goal. I’m sure all defenders think he’s rubbish, lose concentration and he’s waiting for that chance, that run into space which he takes and scores. I’ve seen it countless times. I remember some worldies from him as well but not so often nowadays. And he did do a mean free kick from distance. And, his goals took AFCB into leagues 1 early on and into the PL later on. Eddie H never fancied him in the PL and shifted him on that Summer but AFCB owe him an awful lot. I wish we’d signed him when he was going through a bad patch at Pompey, we’d have had two decent seasons out of him and would still be in League 1. Now, we’ll see him score 7/8 goals, play a smaller part but will marvel at some of his goals. And we’ll moan about how he can’t run and how unfit he looks! He had space yesterday because Bradford lost him and he was so accurate. I’m not sure I’ve enjoyed seeing a goal like that for some time! UTG!

In that case, why don't we play to BP strengths? Get Collins up with him ...or Saunders....?.....and then bang balls into the box knowing that one of them he'll get onto, bearing his strike partner doing the running/chasing? All he needs is one chance (Hartlepool was the same, great save by their keeps) and he assists as much as scores ... BP is vastly underrated because all he can do is score! Imagine if he was presented as much opportunity to score as TN!? He'd be an England player..!

Think about it, we pay him to warm the bench for Finland when he is fit, he was ok for the euros then we miss him for 10 of 12 league games, after missing most of last season. What value does he bring? Is he out for much longer? Value is,imo at least,he's our number 1. I can't see his value when he is not playing. Belshaw is our number 1. The Finland thing really bothers me and he is always fit for them.

Nice, mango... That's not as crazy as it sounds! I can see, if Jaaks is now in his 3rd season with us where he takes half of it off, a luxury we can't afford (if Belshaw remains fit and on form). I'm going to stick neck out and say 2021/22 won't include Jaaks in our squad. A shame, because on his day, he is the best keeper in the lower two divisions. Appreciate the point. He is the worst on most days as he is never fit.

I see it,we now have 2 good GKs ,so if Anssi is injured we don't suffer.Unlike last season I remember some Gasheads highly rating Van Strepahof (forgot his name) and imo he simply was'nt EFL standard.Almost saving a shot might look dramatic, as if the GK was so unlucky ,but it ain't good enough. I rate Belshaw but imo he could of done better for Bradford's corner goal.(Butterfingers for Swindons 3rd) I just think Anssi would of got a strong hand/s to the ball and pushed it to safety. Mind you,as you say Mango,"always" injured ain't no good. Anyone know how Anssi' recovery is coming along?

Maybe see how long he lasts when he makes it back. Then consider not renewing his deal.

Great header by Pitman, really well exrcuted, directed and fully intended, neck muscles like an ox, kind of reminded me of Trevor Morgan's header in the 5 - 2 victory over Rotherham at our proper home all those seasons ago.

I’d play Pitman and I would focus on his plus points but in a team where we seem to be overrun at times in midfield or down the flanks he’s not much good defensively I suppose and his inclusion may be seen to put us under pressure defensively. But with a back 4 that might not be so apparent. And at the moment it’s beginning to look better but tbh no manager over the past two years has been able to decide upon the best team that can consistently get good results. But like you I’d like to see Saunders up with him or Collins with Nicholson or Thomas supporting. But then with his form where would we fit Evans in at the moment? UTG!

You fit Evans in and build the team round him atm Perhaps but it’s no good doing that if you haven’t got anyone in the box to make his assists effective. And getting that balance right is what’s difficult. I bet that if Evans’ had produced those great passes and good overall play without an end product, a goal, it would soon have been forgotten. The two need to go hand in hand. UTG!

Pitman is that man atm, Clarke hopefully will be and whoever we can pick up in Jan. Not sure of the full value of Collins at this stage. He may bounce off Nic and Thomas better.

Just one reiteration before we move on to focus on Colchester..
Alfie bullet header.
It's kinda got lost because of the last minute drama....but as good a connection as ever I've seen from striker or defenders! Bang, get in!
Credit to Evans (because last season Westbrook and McCormick deliveries weren't as accurate) of course, but what a notable string to the bow if he (Alfie)can do that now and again!? He can hit a wind assisted screamer, now bullet header a set piece, it's been years since we had a central defender of such capabilities...
