I respectfully disagree. ....but I understand why you say it.
To attribute blame to him on first is harsh, as in context our defence just wasn't blocking shots or crosses all first half. Very often he was our last line of defence and was exposed to our non marking, non challenging, ball watching static defenders so it was only a matter of time before we breached.
He probably could have done better, but so should the defence as their move conspired 3 players (crosser, header and finisher) v 8 in our box and no one got near the ball!?
What could Belshaw seriously do apart from shot stop, I mean, he's not a world class keeper?
Oh yes,I see why many Gasheads see Belshaw as our number 1 or a serious challenger to Anssi and maybe if Anssi was fit for Tuesday Joe would still select Belshaw, but I think Anssi the better GK.
What could Belshaw ofdone from this corner goal? Well I'll answer what I think Anssi might of done.
Possibly he may of come out and punched the corner out.Maybe.
What I think likely is he would of got a stronger arm/hand contact with the header and pushed it away from immediate danger.
Granted,I was'nt there and I'm going by the telly replay.
Fair enough, I still think that's harsh. The box was crowded with ball watchers!
They were going to score at some point, there were so many areas of individual mistakes made before the goal, I think it's unfair to blame him.
Remember the hopeless performance home to Portsmouth 3 years ago when they gave us 2 late goals for a 2-2 draw at home.
We are now unbeaten in 3 out of 4 and scored late goals in those 3 games
Yes chaps,we are strong in the last 20. I posed the question earlier in the thread whilst the game entered it's ending phase , is a fitness thing? Something Joe considers vital.
Yes. Fitness is key.
But it's more than that. There's a spirit, an endeavour at the moment. Walsall and Bradford away created a similar feeling of confidence coming from behind we haven't felt since GC era (and the passing back and sideways is similar too!).
Put simply, we would've lost this sort of match last season as it felt conceding the first goal usually meant a loss.
That credit has to go to JAB and his management team. 2 wins and 1 draw/4 I would take and be happy with...

That's very encouraging to read indeed.
Thanks, bas that's just how I see it. You know you're doing something right when the home team get booed on final whistle v Walsall and Bradford..
To track the ball from a high, deep cross... with a defender in just front in close attendance... and having to stoop slightly at the last second... knowing the exact amount of angle, force, loop, and direction to place on the ball to put it just out of the 'keepers reach... takes some experience and expert knowledge.
I just hope those dodgy knees are okay, after his celebration!
In the play around the goals, was playing Thomas more advanced than left wing back?
sounds like their goal came from that side.
I've watched Bradford's second goal several times on the iFollow extended highlights. They show the importance of the action preceding the move for the goal.
Bradford worked the ball to their left, where their winger ran with the ball. Alfie Kilgour held him up and Luke Thomas tracked back, partly to cover a potential overlap from another Bradford player, but he took the chance to put a foot in. Despite their efforts, the winger went outside Alfie and got a low cross into the box, which Connor Taylor cleared, for a Bradford throw-in, half way inside Rovers' half, still on Bradford's left side. The throw went back to Bradford defenders who swept the ball forward.
Freeze the action at that point. Alfie is marking the striker who has received the ball. But the winger, nonchalantly returning from the cross he'd put in 20 seconds earlier, had remained wide. That gave Bradford the opportunity for an overload.
The wide man duly received the ball and had plenty of time to put in another low cross. Whether by luck or judgement, the ball played was out of the reach of Greg Whelan, and also of Connor Taylor. Nick Anderton was marking another Bradford opponent, but made a desperate attempt to get to the ball before Bradford forward Cook, to no avail.
For me, there were two ways in which Rovers could have prevented the goal. First, our shape after Connor Taylor cleared the ball for a throw-in was sloppy. Whelan and Coutts should have picked up the retreating central Bradford players, allowing Alfie to focus on the man out wide. (He didn't have to go and stand by him, just note that the wide-man was his responsibility, as Coutts and/or Whelan would be covering the more central threats). Second, once the threat had materialised, if Connor Taylor has been touch-tight to the eventual scorer - the most advanced Bradford player - he could have got to the cross before him and prevented what ultimately turned out to be a tap-in.

It was still a day when Plan A went out the window in the first minute, though. Plan B was to get into the last 15 minutes just 1 behind and then throw in the kitchen sink without a balanced team out there, hoping we get the next goal not them - not really a plan to start the next match is it?
Next 3 now interesting, as we have momentum in results if not performance, and whilst all three are tricky fixtures, 2 points from these four games won’t be enough to save the manager and his entourage
For anyone not aware, live video of Tuesday on iFollow.
When I saw the goals I posted this on gas chat last night:
“Have just seen the goals. That was a seriously good header from Pitman. No luck and a great finish. Had that been on MOTD Shearer and Wright would have been drooling over it. He knew it was coming and got his body in the perfect position to put the ball into the one place the keeper couldn’t get it. Brilliant! Without thinking too much I’d say that’s one of the top 20/30 goals I’ve seen for us. It probably won’t be remembered but it was a typical striker goal. Well done Brett.”
I watched them a couple more times and each time Pitman’s header gets better. Great cross and assist coming form a very important player for us currently, Evans. UTG!

Think about it, we pay him to warm the bench for Finland when he is fit, he was ok for the euros then we miss him for 10 of 12 league games, after missing most of last season.

I know I'm biased, but Belly for me is number1...
Cancel Anssi's contract
Nice, mango... That's not as crazy as it sounds! I can see, if Jaaks is now in his 3rd season with us where he takes half of it off, a luxury we can't afford (if Belshaw remains fit and on form).
I'm going to stick neck out and say 2021/22 won't include Jaaks in our squad.
A shame, because on his day, he is the best keeper in the lower two divisions.
