Barton needs to go tonight. Barton will be expecting it, he knows that his big mouth has written cheques that his managerial ability can't honour.

A strong away following by Swindon Town contributed to the best attendance at The Mem this season, and both sets of supporters were in good spirits despite the rain.
There was a good atmosphere before kick off, you could feel that a memorable afternoon was ahead of us.
Loved the Swindon Town goalkeeper outfit, the bright pink really stood out. Certainly wins best goalkeeper outfit this season so far for me.
The game started at a high tempo, with Rovers pushing up and dictating the pace of play. Lots of crunchy meaty tackles from Rovers if you like that sort of thing, which I do.
Swindon then started to apply pressure with some clever corners, which resulted in “Keystone Cops” defending by The Gas. Panic stations within 15 minutes, a theme that would be seen again in the second half unfortunately. We held firm though.
Lovely Bristol Rovers goal right in front of me in the South West stand, Evans placing a perfect through ball which found Anderson a yard ahead of the defender and slotted it past Mr Pink. Nice goal. Only fifteen minutes on the clock. The goal was slightly against the run of play, but was refreshing to see a well worked goal from open play.
For the remainder of the first half, both sides content to play possession football with some nice passing football on display. No hoofball putting to bed the myth that you cannot play football in League Two and be effective. I would like to see more of this.
Excellent save by Belshaw after thirty four minutes kept us in the game.
Swindon look very much like us last season. Loads of possession, no end product in the final third. They do look useful though.
Half time 1-0
Rovers had one shot on target and scored. Swindon had more chances, not sure if they were half chances from my viewpoint.
They will be frustrated to be losing at the break.
Really good to see Ash and coverage of last week’s charity game on the big screen. This was very well done. It would have been more impressive if the tannoy system actually worked properly. Still, it was a nice touch and was warmly received.
A grand total of £32,501 raised, which was then doubled by Wael. A figure of £65,002 donated to the Bristol Rovers Community trust. Very impressive!
Second half.
Belshaw makes another good save from another corner scramble on fifty three minutes..
Swindon look a completely different team in the second half and their pressure pays off after fifty six minutes with what looked like handball in the run up.
We are sitting deep and inviting them on to us. Losing possession in midfield far too easily.
Another excellent save by Belshaw, save number three.
Swindon a lot better in the second half. Dominating possession and looking dangerous. They are by far the better side, both in terms of football and effectiveness.
The remainder of the game consisted of Swindon attacking pressure, and solid stout defending by The Gas. The defending was backs to the wall at times, but with ten minutes to go it looked like we might have hung on for a hard-fought draw.
Another Belshaw wonder save, this one to the face on the goal line. Belshaw was my man of the match by far. Without him we would have lost 6-1 (or worse). I counted five excellent saves.
Swindon do to us exactly what we did to Walsall last week with what looked like a dubious penalty. I thought it hit Kilgour’s chest, but I did not have the best view. Swindon now winning 2-1.
From this point on, there was only over one winner and our defense collapsed. A soft third goal from a cross from the right side was spilled by Belshaw and calmly tucked away.
Final result. 1-3.
I do not have any complaints. Swindon looked the better side (especially in the second half). They had the measure of our tactics and played us off the park at times. It could have been very different if we were able to hang on.
We are simply not good enough to challenge for promotion, but we should be good enough to avoid relegation (I said the same last season).

It seems to me, without seeing any pictures of it yet, today’s result matches a poor performance overall. 1. We may have lost this one in transition. In defensive shape, unable to hold ball long enough to break out from that shape, push up from lying deep. This is just the same as the Barton side that slipped into relegation zone and nestled bottom of table - stuck in defensive shape unable to hold ball and break out of defensive shape. 2. What is new this season is only 3 defenders in all matches without any change in formation despite the fact it’s not working, it’s gifting opponents too much joy on the flanks, too many crosses to deal with. No change to back 4 between matches or in matches even though it’s plainly obvious opponents have us sussed and exploiting it, and it’s just not working for us. 3. We also are not making enough chances. Even the side and performances which got Garner the sack had more spells in matches when they looked capable and more goal threat, maybe that was because the squad Joey transferred out had more key passes and more passing ability in its younger players, more flair more creativity in its blend, we no longer have the right blend of tackle pass youth experience in this side? It’s not just today, it’s all season we have looked short of key passes and creativity isn’t it. 4. Pitman. Firstly, we have a competitive wage bill for this division, one up and that one being injured Pitman every game, is that the best we can do? Would it be this bad if we held on to Ayunga and Hanlon and played them every game instead? But, secondly, Pitman isn’t going to hang on the defender and run in behind, so is it his fault if it’s not played into him to give him those touches. The teams counter attacking style and lack of possession doesn’t help Pitman at all. 5. Manager seeing what is happening and reacting well from bench. Not a strong suit of Joey Barton. In fact probably worse manager we have ever had at game management Still seems a large hardcore of fans especially those attending games still trust and believe in Joey Barton though, until that changes Joey looks safe for now. Excellent tactical analysis- and you haven't even seen the game! These observations sum up why I feel barton has to go. Yes, we got rid of BG too soon. however, this situation with JB isn't the same. We don't need any more evidence that his approach isn't working. It's getting worse every week. He moaned last season that the players weren't his (surely part of good management is improving what you inherit?). He has subsequently publicly ripped up the entire squad. His feted new team are performing worse than the squad he took over - and worse than when BG was managing them. We have no transition in play, no midfield dominance and create next to no chances - every game is the same. We also now finally have proof that BG can manage a team. Swindon destroyed us today. I predicted weeks ago this would happen. Barton needs to go tonight. “ He moaned last season that the players weren't his (surely part of good management is improving what you inherit?) “ Totally agree with that Phil - you would expect a proper manager to come in and organise and coach and work with professional footballers rather than have to change a total squad in one window. It’s likely scandalous the amount of Bristol Rovers money spent buying up contracts, sign on and agent fees for the geriatric incomings, just because a manager calls the old squad cancer and claims he can’t work with any of it. You don’t often see that, probably for a reason. “We have no transition in play, no midfield dominance and create next to no chances - every game is the same.” It’s starting to look just the same as last seasons insipid surrender isn’t it? Deep. Possessionless. Almost feel sorry for overworked goalie and back three as they get no help from the tactic and colleagues do they? The more overworked they are the more likely something will go wrong. Pep Gardiola the modern way of playing football, proves the best form of defence is having the ball and having it high in opponents half of pitch. He plays a back 4. Perhaps our owner needs to think, it needs to go in a different direction here, what we are seeing is never going to become a possession side, we need a reset, a new DNA, which will obviously require a far better training ground coach and organiser than Joey.

Never mind the Bollox, what a great record that was, unlike this 2nd half shambles from us today. Stats: Possession 35% to 65%, Shots 5 - 14, On Target 3 - 7, Corners 2 - 8, Score 1 - 3. So Port Vale sit in 3rd place and Swindon are now in 5th, Darrell & Ben must be laughing their heads off. We play Port Vale at home on tues 7th Dec, Swindon away on 22nd Jan, i wonder where the 3 teams will be on the Dec meeting.

Barton will be expecting it, he knows that his big mouth has written cheques that his managerial ability can't honour. theres something wrong with the threading because Emperor Superbus didn’t say Joey Barton should go tonight. Admins need to look at that, for skulduggery. I will let off a blue and white flare when it eventually happens though. I’ll say Bas is right, with each match the football argument against Barton builds evidence and credibility, and that’s the right way for a manager to come to an end, when it becomes clear they can’t offer anything different than second best on the day and wins with more than a degree of luck about them.

Ref was poor today apparently. Couldn’t wait to give them a penalty. All part of the great conspiracy.

I spoke to Paul Trollope he was at Mem today with his young son of course he played for both clubs. Asked him if he was applying for Newport County job or Rovers job. He smiled and said will see ! It's gonna be Trolls!!!!! A steady professional, but poor after Higgs got rid of Lennie and PT flopped at Cardiff.

How is Sunday looking on Jacinda’s Alacratraz Prison Island, spring like? News from here Jeff, this forum is now 100% United that enough is enough. I’m not sure if the other place is 100% on board too. Are they still promising ‘News in October?’

Barton has to go. that display today was woeful and inadequate. In his pre match Barton said they know how Swindon like to play and they like to control the game. Therefore, you useless Scouse Twat, the idea as the opposing manager of the home team is that you set up to ensure the visitors don’t have it all their own way.
Instead, the useless effing idiot stood there with that stupid cap on his head, and let Swindon dominate and run the game. We got lucky with our goal, but Swindon should have scored 3 in the first half.
Barton is a total, useless Prat. Is it possible to cash in your season ticket, because I’m p1ssed off with being embarrassed like that.

They knew how Swindon play and the answer was to play a useless lump of lard on his own up front? Absolutely clueless.

Going back to the broader issue, my bigger concern remains: does Wael know what a good manager looks like?
He inherited Darrell, stumbled upon GC and then arguably hired a decent man in BG - but naively allowed him to dismantle a squad that was 4th in League One... before firing him at the wrong point the following season. The last 18 months have been an unmitigated disaster and it still feels like we haven't hit rock bottom yet.
JB managed to talk Wael into allowing another complete squad cull (AKA "the great reset") and, here we are: 20th in League Two. We've been blown away in a number of games already this season. The tactics are woeful, ruthlessly exposing an ageing and unfit squad (the one "to be proud of"). Incidentally, why are so many of our players getting injured in training?
Brett Pitman has had an excellent record at his previous clubs. He even managed to score 11 goals for a poor Swindon side last season. However, how can we expect him to score anything when he doesn't receive the ball to feet? There are no runners off him to pull defenders out of position either. Why didn't Saunders start today? Where is Luke Thomas incidentally? Is he injured as well?
Swindon today showed us we what we could and possibly should be - a slick team dominating possession in midfield and with a clear game plan. We're a million miles off this. JB's argument that "it takes time for a new team to gel" has been completely shattered by the fact that Swindon themselves had only 9 registered players in the summer. Now look at them.
There's a long way to go this season and I believe we do have the players to at least stay up - how sad that I'm even contemplating that! However, if we keep faith with this manager we stand a very real chance of getting drawn into a second successive relegation. We collapsed under JB last season. Performances and results got worse and worse. Now, history is starting to repeat itself.
Imagine the scenario on Tues 7 Dec when Port Vale come to the Mem and their boss gets a better reception than our own.

BTW, Attendance for today's game was 7,625.
Match Report From The BRFC Site:
Rovers were condemned to a second straight home defeat as Ben Garner’s Swindon Town side ran out 3-1 victors at a sodden Memorial Stadium. Second-half strikes from Payne, McKirdy and a Ben Gladwin penalty ensured that Rovers could not make former boss Garner’s return an unhappy one.
A bone-crunching tackle from Antony Evans reverberated around the Memorial Stadium after just two minutes, setting the tone for a bright start from Rovers in the incessant rain. The wet pitch made for some early sloppy passing, slips and mistakes from both sets of players.
Rovers took a grip of the game and were rewarded for some one-touch passing in the 16th minute as Harry Anderson finished off a flowing move with a fine, right-footed shot past Wollacott, from Evans’ delicious through ball. The wing-back became Rovers’ ninth different goalscorer this season.
Swindon looked to respond and grew in to the game, with the wily Payne pulling all the strings.
A well-worked routine off the training ground saw Crinchlow’s effort deflected wide, before Town saw their first shot on target after 21 minutes from Payne, gathered well by Belshaw in the centre of his goal.
The Gas ‘keeper was called upon again to beat away a cross-cum-shot from Kesler-Hayden, inevitably assisted by Payne.
Belshaw was at it again in the 34th minute, producing his finest save of a busy half, denying Gilbert after the Robins striker burst through one-on-one.
Rovers regained a foothold in the game and threatened late in the half with some crosses fired into the Swindon box, but the visitors held firm in front of their 700-strong travelling fanbase - Wollacott claiming under his crossbar as the half-time whistle blew.
The rain eased up slightly as the second half began, with Rovers attacking the home end. Belshaw was called into action early to repel a cheeky back-heeled effort from Swindon left-back Iandola. Swindon began to dominate possession and levelled through Payne in the 56th minute, with Rovers failing to clear a near-post cross.
Further Swindon domination forced Barton into action in the 62nd minute as Aaron Collins and Harvey Saunders replaced Evans and Glenn Whelan. The game then became stretched, with both sides looking to strike it lucky with some hopeful long-range passing.
More Town pressure saw a McKirdy strike deflected behind for a corner. There was a delay in proceedings before it could be taken though, as Connor Taylor lay stricken near his own goal. The centre-half could not continue and was replaced by Hoole as Rovers looked to regroup and look for what would be their first back-to-back wins since December.
Hoole was straight in the action as his header from Coutts’ right-wing cross was gathered by Wollacott. In a surprising move, the influential Payne was replaced by Welsh international Jonny Williams in the 74th minute. Rovers then made a fourth change - Taylor was a concussion substitution - with Pitman being replaced by Westbrooke.
Alfie Kilgour was shown a yellow card as Swindon upped the ante, looking to find a winner. They so nearly did, but were again thwarted by Belshaw, who produced a stunning save in the top left-corner of his goal from a Gladwin header. Kilgour was then shown a red card for a second yellow after he handled McKirdy’s goal-bound volley in the 84th minute; Gladwin netting the resulting penalty past a despairing Belshaw to put Town 2-1 up.
McKirdy then wrapped up the points in the 87th minute after a howler from Belshaw, the otherwise-impressive ‘keeper spilling a cross from the right, allowing the Swindon substitute the easiest of finishes.
Rovers face Carlise United next Saturday at the Mem (3pm KO).
Bristol Rovers: Belshaw; Kilgour, Taylor, (Hoole 68) Harries, Brown, Anderson; Coutts (c), Evans (Saunders 62), Whelan (Collins 62), Finley; Pitman (Westbrooke 78).
Subs: Ward, Westbrooke, Collins, Anderton, Saunders, Spence, Hoole.
Swindon Town: Wollacott; Odimayo, Iandola (Hunt 88), Conroy (c), Crinchlow, Gladwin, Simpson (Mitchell-Lawson 70), Payne, Gilbert (McKirdy 64), Kesler-Hayden.
