I hope with our day off, someone was at Fratton to see Pomp v Leyton Orient.
Pompey are for me the best team I've seen this season, and comfortably outplayed us at the Mem.
I wonder if there's a tactical vulnerability with Pompey playing at home? Not just the large crowd expectations.. ?
Their home form is poor. I genuinely think this once considered graveyard is our best chance of returning with 3pts, if we can up pace and out-maneuver and notch up the atmosphere with a few Irene Goodnights...
Come on you yellows..

I thought that Rovers were a bit unlucky to lose there last time. After Smith got injured,Pompeys left winger ( was it Miller ?) was able to get down that side time after time. I hope that Rovers play with wing backs this time. The game being called off today might be a good thing it gives the new players another week of training with the squad. A point down there would be good.

I thought their left winger was Harley (Sheeeeeeet) at the time?
Not only did Smith get taken out, his replacement got injured too and was subbed, leaving us exposed on the right in defence..
Fair play, their fans knew they were staying up that day.

I will be there. My mate is Pompey fan and is sponsoring the game so I will be enjoying corporate with the Skates. Will be difficult to contain myself if we score when I am in the Pompey end.

7am train out of parkway with a couple of fellow dudes & dudettes for a proper all day brewski session! Should be a good one & as already mentioned, we were stuffed after an hour last time out. Both our (arguably) best players got injured and we were knackered in no time! Here's to 3 points this time round!

I thought I went to Portsmouth in the 70s but looking through my programmes the first one is from 83. I only have a couple of memories of that day, went on a special train and David Williams (think he was injured) was giving out letters from the club telling everyone to behave ( there had been trouble at Reading ). We stood at the Milton end,it was uncovered then and at full time a line of coppers stood across the pitch in front of us,all 6 foot at least...except one and he was fat, someone started singing "one little fat one, theres only one little fat one" and it seemed like all the Rovers lot joined in..he went bright red but he did end up giving us a wave. There was fighting going back to the station and windows got smashed when the train got stoned, but it was the same every away game then....sadly I cant remember the match at all,I looked it up and Rovers lost 1-0.

I read somewhere that there are engineering works and the train stops at Warminster, buses to Southampton and train to Portsmouth.

You may well have we played millwall at Pompey in March 78 about 500 gas several thousand mill wall and all of Portsmouth were there it was not a day for the faint hearted and if some of the things that happened that day were repeated today it would make national headlines pretty sure we won although all I can remember was the gauntlet getting back to the station

I remember that game and the walk back to the station. It reminded me of leaving Ashton Gate in the late seventies, running a gauntlet of screaming, blood thirsty City fans trying to pierce the never ending Police cordon. If I remember right, the Portsmouth fans on the day were siding with us during the game and it seemed like it was the two of us against Milwall.

I know some blokes who went, and they said it was chaos at the station after the game,I think that the Anti Nazi League had a demo there that day to ?. Information about special trains and travel was harder to find out before the internet..remember a special train to Blackburn with hardly anyone on it because nobody knew it was going, you were definitely there Dave.

The 'one little fat one' was started by John Kayes, as we were kept in for about 20 minutes after the match. Enough time for Pompey to organise their bricking parties!!! As a naive 15 year old wannabe this was everything you could ask for in an away day. Apart from Alan Biley, the original 'horse's arse', scoring the goal...

Heres the first part of the letter handed out on the special train to Portsmouth.
To:All our loyal travelling supporters.
As you are all well aware,at our last away game at Reading, the Clubs good name was tarnished. Therefore,we would ask you all to behave to the usual travelling Bristol Rovers standards today and at all future games.
David Williams had to hand the letter out on the train,he looked quite uncomfortable and I felt sorry for him,not so some other supporters who tore their letters up in front of him.

As I have said before I wouldn't like to see the trouble back at football matches but I wish that atmosphere could be brought back, sadly that cant happen, the loudest shouts now seem to be abuse at one of our own players,as for the singing lets not even go there.

The OB were randomly cracking nuckles of those on the cage and ended up in a pitch invasion with Bobby Gould coming over to try and restore order. Pretty sure Nicky Platnauer scored the winner. We were 1-0 at the time of the pitch invasion...
