Something that has occurred to me, KP - that managing Bristol Rovers might rehabilitate him. We can but hope. You are aware of the Alcoholics Anonymous mantra? 'The first step towards rehabilitation is acknowledging that you have a problem'. And you are also presumably aware that Barton hasn't done this. I have said all along that if Barton showed genuine remorse for his past actions, then I would be willing to give him a chance. But he's done the opposite - he wears his previous misdemeanours like a badge of honour, while dragging the club's name further into the gutter. Only last season he joked about his previous violent attacks in a club interview. And launched deeply personal and highly unprofessional attacks on previous club managers and employees. It is hardly the club's role to be a rehabilitation centre for unrepentant thugs. You are not the first to express this optimism...and all the evidence suggests you won't be the last. Fair comment as i had forgotten that, see what a bit of success does !

theres too many candidates for player of the season! You didn’t even name Elliot Anderson, Finley, Evans or Connolly. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. I have been following Rovers for very nearly seven thousand years. We have never had a loan with the impact of Elliot Anderson. Dennis Bailey was a tad successful 9 goals in 15 from QPR scored superb winner at Wolves on making the Rangers side scored hat trick at Manchester United Stafford rangers lol 😂

Who are you to say whether he has or hasn't done any of the above?
Are you expecting some kind of personal letter or something? Its not all about you.
And have you read his autobiography?

If we are speaking in terms of publicly acknowledging and showing contrition, then no he hasn't. In fact, he (fairly recently) offered to fight Dabo in a charity fight. He also joked last season that a challenge by an opposition player was worse than what he went to prison for - thus relativising and trivialising what occurred. I'm expecting him to apologise for his past actions and to show remorse for past actions. No need for a personal letter, as this needs to be done in public. He puts so much effort into constructing a public persona that this should be straightforward for him. Why on earth would I read his autobiography?

Elliot has contributed to every game, always been a threat, create spark, and contributes to teams defensive record with work rate. I meant Taylor not Connolly no offence to Connolly 🤦♂️ Hoskin is another name to mind who had great loan with us.

Are you on the correct quote as i have not compared Gazza with Lineker, my stats were of Dennis Bailey & Elliott Anderson.

So the rehabilitation hasn't happened yet. It's still in process.

based on the few games Ive seen this season Coutts is an excellent footballer. I didn't see the early games where he was getting a load of stick but think he was recovering from Covid and of course the sending off didn’t endear him to people. He’s played in all the games I’ve seen and in every one we have totally bossed the middle of the park - no coincidence there. Sadly though probably only has a couple more seasons in his legs playing like this. Candidate for POTS in my view, along with Belshaw and Harry Anderson theres too many candidates for player of the season! You didn’t even name Elliot Anderson, Finley, Evans or Connolly. whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat. I have been following Rovers for very nearly seven thousand years. We have never had a loan with the impact of Elliot Anderson. But you were born in 534 BC... which would be some way short of 7000 years. Ha. Gotcha.

Because maybe it would give you some insight into the man, his background. Whether you then change your opinion is different, but a wide spectrum of knowledge is power, and allows for a more educated argument, instead of pure bias.

Why is this anything to do with you ( Or me or anyone ) If anyone here has ever been charged with anything, I imagine any subsequent apology would be in private to a victim. Why this obsession with having to be party to it? Its almost as if some people feel entitled. But at the same time you don't show any interest in his autobiography (ghost written or not, that is not relevant). I think Holmes Gas says it very well.

Valid points made by both sides. As we have veered away from the match detail itself, and we're now going over old ground - I'm moving this thread.
