One of the more enjoyable aspects of attending matches at the Mem is the feeling of support. The e-mail was nice. Joey even bothered to spell my name right.
Some of you are so bitter and twisted out there. As I have said before, you are in a minority. The crowds are going up and it is not because people have been caught up in some cult of anti-negativity.
It's not great. Mid-table in League 2 and no sign of ground improvements. But it is getting better.

Actually, on a personal note, I find Barton's public utterances hilarious. But if the owner wants to embarrass himself by employing and be associated with such a clown, well, it's his money. In the meantime I look forward to this week's episode of "Psychology by Barton" and a hard fought nil nil draw.

The following was the manager's article. I'm struggling to see what even the most bitter and twisted out there could find wrong with it.
"Dear Gasheads
My notes in today's match programme were written on Tuesday night after a disappointing result. Today is another day and I feel compelled to write to you.
It’s been magical of late; to see The Memorial Stadium crowd growing and the positivity heard in the stands has had a huge impact on our players.
I write to ask for your continued support. There has to be no negativity. We only want positive people. There are enough negatives in the world. Everyone is always 'outraged' by something.
Football should be a release.
A sanctuary from the difficulty of life.
We appreciate the part we play to support well-being of the blue half of Bristol.
Your support has been phenomenal as this group of young lads has grown. We have a tough run of games coming up, but every game at The Mem we should expect to win - especially with our crowd behind us for 90-plus minutes.
It’s no coincidence to me the amount of late goals we now score as a team. We have a belief growing daily. Confidence comes from good preparation and this team is supremely prepared.
We have turned a corner as a team and we have turned a corner as a football club.
It is important that we have a superb football club to be proud of. I know the Community Trust guys have been outstanding in their department, setting standards and really helping people’s lives. I can also see the passion in our owner, Wael, and CEO, Tom, to create an environment where we have excellence running throughout our football club.
Whilst defeat on Tuesday night was difficult for us all to take, we also must not lose sight of where we have come from. Rome wasn’t built in a day. Day by day, week by week, we will incrementally strive to improve. Progress has been positive of late but we still believe, as a group, we have yet to consistently play our best football.
We need you with us.
We have two tough home games coming up, starting today against an in-form Mansfield Town. Nigel Clough has always produced good teams and goes under the radar for the job he has done at the club.
His father, Brian, was the greatest of his time; a truly unique character. Football needs more like him. He was spectacular. His moments with Muhammad Ali and Michael Parkinson were favourites of mine growing up.
Nigel was a top player himself, representing Forest, Liverpool and England. I’ve always enjoyed his straight-talking and how competitive his teams are.
We were unlucky down there and lost 2-1, but we have a different look about us from that game.
I’m really looking forward to today’s game; it’s a good test of our players. We welcome the Mansfield players, supporters and directors and hope to have a fantastic contest against the Football League's form team.
That said, we are in OUR stadium today.
We need YOU to all be at YOUR best today. Let’s make it as loud as you can for the lads. They have loved it in recent weeks. There is nothing better than The Mem in full voice.
Hopefully, there will be 8,000-plus here again and we can put another brick in place as we continue building a football club to make you all proud.
Finally, I want to mention the job the lads do in preparing the pitch at the stadium for home games. They do an incredible job for us, both at The Mem and at The Quarters. Led by Daryle and Ben, we are very lucky to have them. Their efforts contribute massively to us playing the type of football that is starting to help us increase our results profile.
Win regularly, draw occasionally and lose rarely.
That’s a profile for success. If you strive to consistently achieve that, success will invariably find you. We will continue striving for that.
Enjoy the game today.

That's because they've also bought in to the ban negativity and blame the ref bollocks. What could they see from up there? It should have been a penalty. We get that you hate everything about Rovers at the moment - that's clear. What's also clear, is that the challenge on Collins should have resulted in a penalty. 'hate everything about Rovers' Je ne le crois pas

I think this is one of the classic Gasheads.Org threads. Some actively vilifying calls for support and unity.
Bitter & twisted are the right words.
It is funny though, especially if they think they are being taken seriously.

My thoughts on the Mansfield result was that overall it was a good draw. One point gained against a very in form team. We held them defensively and created some good chances (in the second half).
This point would have felt a whole lot better if we had won at Oldham, but there you go.
The problem that we have is that we have been a lower mid table team (with potential for higher) for the whole season so far (60% of the season completed. Nearly two thirds). If we are going to reach the playoffs then we need to go on a run of wins. Remember that the only league table that matters is the on at 5pm on Saturday 7th May 2022. If we scrape into the playoffs on the final day of the season by goal difference then job done.
We do continue to drop points, which is worrying at this stage of the season.
Back to the game. It was not a particularly entertaining game. Both sides seemed unable to fashion a number of clear cut chances, so I guess that both defenses had a good day. Having Conner Taylor back in the side was a key factor in that. Really good to see James Belshaw back in the side. I am liking the higher crowds though. I imagine the big turnout from Mansfield helped boost the figures though.
The next few games are Sutton United (5th), Stevenage (17), Leyton Orient (16), Exeter City (4th). If we assume 74 points will get us into 7th position at the end of the season (using an average of two points per game from now on), then we will need 8 points from these four games (minimum). This is doable if we beat Stevenage and Leyton Orient. That's a big if.
Using the above logic, the draw against Mansfield was ok. The loss against Oldham was not.
I really liked JB's per-game message (via email). He is exactly right and we all want to have a positive experience at The Mem. The coaching staff and the players also have to do their part and deliver on the pitch.
I am still hopeful for a strong finish to the season, a playoff push would do wonders for morale and atmosphere at The Mem.
UTG.

I actually think Aaron put himself across O'Tooles leg and then made an over acted dive. The ref got it right.Just my opinion on the 'big moment ' from yesterdays game against the 'unbeatable Stags'.I enjoyed the game by the way. On Joe i'm 100% behind him. He is fantastic for Rovers and we're lucky Wael hired him. I'm already looking forward to Tuesdays game against new boys Sutton United. I'm thoroughly enjoying the Mem games and it's satisfying to know the club is on an upward trajectory. Edit. Could someone post the email on support etc from JB please. “I actually think Aaron put himself across O'Tooles leg and then made an over acted dive. The ref got it right.Just my opinion on the 'big moment “ that was the big moment, because it came when we had the second half pressure, on another day it’s tucked away by Coutts for three points. But the ref was erratic the entire game though?

Uhh,he played a couple of decent advantages, but sometimes the free kick may of been more welcome.🙂 I would have to see important decisions again Ebus,I think he got some decisions right and some maybe not. It's not an easy game at the Mem for refs and lines people,we get at the officials - me too - don't we.We get at the opposition too. It's what we do.☠

What in the name of Penelope Cruz is wrong with asking for positive support at the game? It's not as if the likes of Hillier are "playing" for us (thankfully). This lot are a good bunch and surely deserve support.

I doubt anyone would have even mentioned the message from JB until Swiss tried to create some deeper meaning behind it that gives a negative spin on all things BRFC, as he likes to do. It should be filed in Spam alongside his 'Rovers will be renting a home in 12 months time" and "Rovers will be owned by JB's cohorts this time next year" threads.
People jump on it as it gives them an opportunity to say how terrible everything is, but in reality JB's message is just like what is echoed at every club from Man U to Scunthorpe.
There is No deeper meaning to it.
Things are getting better. 4 defeats in 18, new training ground, commercial transformed (Has anyone been to the on line shop?..probably not), Ticketing sorted, great comms starting to happen.
Some people really dont seem to like it when things start getting better do they. Bitterness I assume.

Football should be a release. A sanctuary from the difficulty of life." I mean, really. Can anyone read that and not think "WTF" I can`t see that`s so ridiculous. This from J B Priestley: Going to the match, “..turned you into a member of a new community, all brothers together for an hour and half … having pushed your way through a turnstile into another and altogether more splendid life.”
Ok, I`m sure that all Rovers fans would agree that it`s not always a more splendid life watching the Gas, nonetheless, football does provide a 90 minute break from the pressures and cares of everyday life. You might think that`s ridiculous, but I wouldn`t agree.

UTG.
Well done Rich. Summed it up well. In these last three matches, given where we are, I think 2 points was just not enough and we won’t do it now. Win the next three I may change my mind but all 3 opposing keepers have had easy games we don’t challenge them enough in the box without an out and out striker. If Loft comes back and starts scoring it’ll give us more balance and I’m hopeful for a strong finish to set us up for next season and with the spirit this team has you never know. I hope you’re right but I lack your optimism on this occasion. UTG!
