Two major problems today.
Lines is back to the useless lazy player we had in L1, deliberately moving into space so that he can get a free ride and make other people do his work for him.
Clarke (Manager) utterly clueless. When playing for boys' clubs we dealt with simple things like trying to isolate big defenders who win all high balls. Today, instead of putting Ellis on No6 and giving him something to think about all we did was get the ball wide and pass it to the head of No6 with Ellis trying to arrive late. Pathetic playground stuff.
Then to top it off, Clarke takes off the only player who looked even remotely likely to score again and replaced him with Taylor, who, you won't need telling, contributed nothing whatsoever.
Taylor is seriously out of his depth, time to thank him for his services and ship him back to a division where he can play against electricians and plumbers.

I think people are seriously overreacting. Let's be honest, Portsmouth have a far greater squad and budget. We have had quite a difficult start to the season having played Orient, Pompey, Oxford, Plymouth, Accrington and Northampton. Plus we have Wycombe coming up. Can't see us going down with the likes of Newport, Yeovil and Dagenham below us.

Has any club ever had the same board preside over two relegations from the football league? If we dont sort out this home form we are in for a long hard season, and if we went down again i dont think we would be so lucky second time around.Pompey were good but we stood off them to much and in my book we are too nice, maybe we could get costa on loan |

as for the replacing Easter BG he was puffing like a ruptured balloon and there was no more for him to go on with ,--- and the lino? how do you call up a player about to take a corner kick for not having the ball in the angle from 50 yards when you cant see a foul in front of your eyes!! the ball was legally placed,,, mind bogeling

Let's not try to pretend this turned on a lino holding things up for 10 seconds. Lines left huge spaces in midfield, again, Clarke couldn't see things in front of him that park managers see and deal with every weekend. Nice to see the old 'they have a bigger budget than us' card coming out. Odd how that didn't count when we were drawing 16 games last season, a lot of them against part time players. Not quite time to panic yet, but things need to improve very soon, losing becomes a habit, just like winning can. |

But seriously, when the transfer window closed it was closely followed by the loan window opening, and the manager said that he continued to be in the market for a striker, having failed to sign one in the transfer window . . . despite several near misses, and endlessly hanging on the telephone. But significantly he also said that there was no need to panic, and then went on to justify why it was that we all shouldn't panic. From memory this was because of the quality of player that we have on the books already. With the greatest of respect to the manager and his staff, I think it's high time that he did start to cast his net a little wider (if he hasn't done so already that is), and not just for that elusive striker neither. But then again, on the gates that we are attracting, will the budget stand for it? |

Don't how C.L got MOTM today, he played the safe game, made a few nice passes but overall was outclassed by their midfield players.Tom Lockyer was my MOTM.

Lines played a great pass in the second half - out to Brown on the wing. Instead of piling in to the box to cause chaos, he stood and posed! He may as well have patted himself on the back!!! |

Predictable, slow, not pushing up as a unit and too many picked today to have an off day. Brown was poor but so was Lines and we have no pace.
The substitutions were very badly judged and made it worse for us. Thought Easter was ok but no more.
Could be a long and tough season. Taylor is not up to this at all.

I'm not so down, I thought Pompey were much the better side, as you would expect them to be with the money they have spent on their squad. We started both halves well, well done to DC for changing things, no lack of effort from the players, but both times Pompey were patient, turned the screws and got back on top. Both goals felt inevitable when they came, after long spells of pressure.
We lost the game in midfield, there seemed to be long periods when they could keep the ball away from us and keep trying to work their excellent wide players in, who eventually would provide good crosses from which they scored.
Thought the defence played well under the most pressure they've been under this season (or last), and as usual the front line were feeding off scraps, so can't be blamed that much - Pompey were very effective at stopping Brown and Leads overlapping and getting crosses in, and we haven't yet got the understanding between attacking strikers and mids to work it through the middle.
It will come tho, so "no need to be upset" I think.

All due respect, I don't see it as an excuse. We don't have the budget or the professionalism in conduct of business Pompey have. We were well beaten by a top side. In a twisted way, we should end up 15th as the only victories thus far have been against teams 16th and below (even though they weren't in those relative positions when we played them).....so we are around where we deserve to be. In an unbalanced start to the season, we should have easier opposition to come in next 9matches but I hope that isn't also viewed as an excuse? |
