Not just Thomas, but Hunter of Salford gets the same treatment.
I dont agree with the public hanging of players, I don’t know why he does it. But credit where it’s due, he has turned our form around, he is getting far better performances and he’s demanding more.

I don't know, I think JB was right to lambast that player after missing what looked on tape anyway to be a sitter, I reckon a thousand or more of us who stand on the terraces would have put that one the ' right ' side of the post. To be pegged back to 1 - 1 against a side that had been reduced to nine men was just unacceptable and I for one can understand the managers angst and frustrations. Hopefully it will be the rocket that Thomas needs to come out stronger for the next game ....if selected of course ! Why does he need a rocket? People keep saying that but to me he’s always given his all, as he did when he came on yesterday. He’s a better player than most of Barton’s mates. Just another lne of Barton’s scapegoats.

Rovers can't afford injury prone players.Thomas has to find the mental strength to fulfill what looks like the potential to be a very good player. We'll see if Joe has 'buried' him. In the scenario he bucks up,then great. In the scenario he does'nt,well it's cheerio and good luck. There's nothing like a bit of empathy regarding mental health. ....and that post is nothing like a bit of empathy! I get it... it's a results business. But he (not most) doesn't have to be publicly chastised for missing a few seconds chance in a 100 minutes match that blame could have been attributed to others. Harries, for instance? If he wasn't turned and allowed the only shot on target to get past/through him, equally we would've won. Where's the public gallows regarding him? JBs assessment would not of been based only on last night and it seems to me LT has had plenty of helping hands in his career thus far. I know it's tough on him and you have to be careful, people that have mental health difficulties are prone to depression and we all know where that may lead to. Never the less,Gasheads deserve to see fully fit athletes wearing the Quarters and not someone only 80% because of eg a poor diet. Barrett, rated, came from Reading.Could'nt get fit, awful signing.Literally a waste of money. LT has I'll bet been given help and advice throughout his career. As Joe 'said',he has to buck up soon and take his chance at Rovers or it'll be gone.

Absolutely gasprom, great to hear Joe believes and wants more from this squad. He wants us to find a ruthless streak to finish teams off.He also mentioned how very important January is. I wonder who he wants to sign and whether this player or players have an inkling Rovers may come knocking. In the scenario we have a good January - that'll make a change - we'll be a step nearer to said ruthlessness and have a very good team. Exciting times!

Take his chance at Rovers (with lousy man management) or it'll be gone (possibly to a better place where he will shine)? All hypothesis. Nicholson missed a sitter last Saturday, so did Evans...... everyone misses sitters from time to time. It should have been dealt with in house, and you and I and everyone else should be discussing something else. Poor management.

Perhaps Joe was just extra frustrated after the game.Perhaps he wants LT gone?Perhaps he is just plain exasperated with LT and Hope's a public dressing down will help? Joe also did say how LT will blow his chance if he does buck up,he sounded concerned for the lad to me.Don't mess up your chance at Rovers kind of thing. Anyway,we'll see how LTs form goes from here.

It wasn't just about the miss last night though, JB made it clear that it was about his general attitude - and he's the one who sees LT every day in training. It has already been addressed in house, senior players have felt the need to "have a word" with LT at times, and he's already had the nurturing approach. Better to try and galvanise him this way, than say nothing, and then send him back in January. I hope that he can fulfill his potential, as there's a good player in there, although, apart from Barnsley, where has he shone?

I agree that he is obviously p1ssed that Thomas isn’t dedicating himself 100% to his football, I have waited in vain to see this mercurial talent we’ve been promised but apart from a few flashes there’s not been a great deal to write home about. However, I think JB would have done better to keep it behind closed doors, and if Thomas didn’t buck his ideas up send him back in January. I trust Barton’s judgement, I don’t think public castigation will cause an improvement.

On LT......I think it's a mistake to do your dirty washing in public unless absolutely necessary. I didn't see LT lose interest or drop effort, yea he missed a sitter and if he was an out and out striker, then perhaps.....but be tried his best and this time it didn't work.....some credit goes to the Keep whom closed him down quickly.....but ultimately, (from the outside) I see this as doing more harm than good by criticising him in public. Makes me think there's a lot going on behind the scenes re JAB/LT....poor shout by JAB I m o Agreed. It`s actually the first time I`ve heard Barton speak since he was appointed, and that was only because my mate had it on the car radio as we set off home. I don`t like him and I`m not interested in what he has to say. And listening to him publically lambast Luke Thomas, didn`t do anything to change my mind. But I haven`t spent my whole life waiting for a reason to stop going, so I`ll carry on. UTG! Bang on Alf. Managers come and go. Our football team is for life.

We are a League 2 side. Because of that and the players we have we will be inconsistent.
Last Tuesday our players performed to another level for 15 minutes and pulled off a remarkable and truly unexpected result.
This Tuesday the same players controlled an entire match but only managed to score 1 goal and spurned many other chances to score.
Our opponents, with their backs to the wall and with 9 men had one chance and they scored. Our defence, essentially made 1 mistake, our attackers a good number.
It is what L2 players do. We shouldn’t be too down hearted.

Exaggeration? The only exaggeration was JB's criticism of LT. What I will say though is he did have every right to be angry, and in the main came across well. But he went a step too far with LT. Perhaps you didn't hear the full interview, live on Radio Bristol, straight after the game? I see that Rovers official youtube video has edited out that section, so I can only assume the BRFC agree with me and didn't want that to remain in public. Here's something to look at, the headline on the Bristol Post website: "Bristol Rovers boss Joey Barton launches scathing criticism of ex-Derby County man Luke Thomas"www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-rovers-boss-joey-barton-6251316And here's a copy and paste of JB's comments from that article: "Luke Thomas will not get a better opportunity to score a goal in professional football," Barton said. "He doesn’t even hit the target, which sums up where he’s at for me "He’s not wired in, he’s never quite right and he thinks the world owes him a favour. "Unfortunately, if he doesn’t get his finger out, this opportunity at Rovers is going to pass him by. "He came in with a big fanfare of the ability he could have, but constantly when trusted and given opportunities, he doesn’t maximise it "Again, he probably thinks the world owes him something and he’s above the level, but if you’re not sharp and you’re not wired in and you’re not fully fit and you’ve not got your body in the right space, then no matter what level of football you play, you will not be successful. "You’re asking him to go on the pitch. You’re telling him there is going to be space for you and you’re going to have the opportunity to kill these off and we don’t manage to do that." "Luke should score. Let’s be honest, he should score, and I think if he was absolutely wired in and in the right frame of mind all the time, he would score. "But he doesn’t do things right consistently and if you don’t do things right in this game, you don’t get rewarded, you do not become successful by doing the wrong thing. "Before the game, LT is talking to him [Hunter] and I’m saying he’s the last person in this ground you want to talk to. You don’t want to catch what he’s got. "I tell him about getting wired in. I’ve seen so many young players who think they’re going to be the exception to the rule, they’re going to be the ones who do not live their lives right, who can eat fast food, drink fizzy drinks and turn up and think they’re going to perform.
When Luke Thomas arrived, we were told he was struggling with being away in Derby. His move to us was seen as a good fit as he was closer home. This is another example of people on here, and other forums/social media, who change their tune to suit JB's actions. Earlier in the season people rightly praised JB for looking after LT, saying "He needed an arm around his shoulder." Now the tune has changed to "He needs a kick up the bum." Well if he needs a kick up the bum keep it to the dressing room, rather than airing dirty laundry to all and sundry. I thought we were beginning to learn and understand more about mental health issues; I guess I was wrong. when did a Super Mario start managing us? (a dystopian computer game version of Championship Manager?) First time I'd noticed the 'tache! Must be a Movember thing. Taken a while for it to get going though.
