Having watched the highlights, Pitman looks offside to me. He is definitely offside for a long time before the ball comes in, and definitely offside from a fraction after the cross and onwards to the header. The problem is, that you can see when pausing the video, that it is difficult to tell whether he is offside at the exact moment the ball is played to him (and the angle doesn't help). If he does come back onside it is for such a fraction of a second that it would be impossible to know in real time. Couldn’t disagree with you more on the offside. The angle doesn’t matter because you can see the penalty area white line. Pitman (far left) is on it and a defender’s clearly ahead of it if you freeze the frame when the ball is played forward. I find it baffling that anyone would say it's "definitely offside" <button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button><button disabled="" class="c-attachment-insert--linked o-btn--sm">Attachment Deleted</button> Agree, It does look like BP is onside as the defender looks ahead of him going on the penalty box line IMO. Stats - Salford City 1 BRFC 1 - 35% - 65% - Shots 5-19 - On Target 1-7 - Corners 1-5 - Fouls 18-5 - Yellows 3-1 - Reds 2-0 - Attendance 1.740 (Away 692) - Position 16th-14th

Match Report
Rovers make it five games unbeaten on the road with a draw at Salford
In the first league meeting between the sides, Sam Nicholson’s first-half goal looked to have separated the two teams in Greater Manchester. A late goal for 9-man Salford frustrated Rovers into taking just one point from a game they dominated.
Nicholson converted calmly following an excellent and alert assist from Sam Finley, scoring his second goal in as many games. Thomas-Asante scored five minutes into the 11 minutes of stoppage time, converting a low finish beyond Belshaw to ensure the points were shared. Rovers made three changes ahead of kick-off at the Peninsula Stadium.
Glenn Whelan, Aaron Collins and Nick Anderton returned to the Rovers starting line-up – with Harry Anderson and Alfie Kilgour missing out and Sion Spence dropping to the bench after his first league start on the weekend. It was the home side that recorded the first opening of the game, which came inside the opening five minutes. A lobbed ball over the top ran into the bath of Thomas-Asante, who managed to sneak in behind the Rovers backline before firing a low finish across goal and wide of the target.
Rovers matched Salford’s bright, early start. Both Sam Finley and Aaron Collins saw efforts blocked, as Barton’s side made an encouraging start to the contest.
Rovers made their lively start count, by grabbing the game’s first goal in the 14th minute. A loose pass inside the Rovers half from the hosts was intercepted by Finley, who was quick to spot Nicholson free down the left. The inch-perfect ball by the midfielder was controlled by Nicholson, who kept his cool after breaking into the area to place a low finish beyond Ripley in the Salford goal.
In the period that followed the opening goal, Rovers managed play and limited the opportunities for the home side, with Belshaw untested in the Gas goal.
Aaron Collins had two opportunities in quick succession to add a second goal for Rovers. The first chance saw him industriously work a route into the Salford area, before hitting a fierce shot from a tight angle that Ripley blocked with his body. The later chance saw him exert his skill out wide, cutting in from the left and hitting a low effort that the Salford ‘keeper tipped wide with a fingertip stop.
Further chances followed as Nick Anderton’s powerful front post header from a corner climbed just over the target. Shortly after, a tricky set-piece from Evans was spilt by Ripley, who recovered to pounce on the loose ball ahead of a number of onrushing Rovers players.
The home side were reduced to 10 men in the latter stages of the first half. Matty Willock’s challenge in the middle of the park of Sam Finley was deemed reckless, with referee Ben Toner not hesitating to produce a straight red card.
Rovers preserved their leading heading into the break and looked good value of their advantage at the interval.
As the second half began, Joey Barton's side continued in a similar fashion to their impressive first-half display. A mesmerising run by Antony Evans saw the playmaker stride past a number of Salford players before his effort from the edge of the area was plucked away by Ripley. The rebound fell into the path of Finley, who forced the 'keeper into making a further save down low.
An injury to Belshaw on the hour mark caused concern from the Rovers bench, as the 'keeper was caught by Tom Elliot after rushing out to clear the danger of a long-ball forward. After a delay for treatment, the bandaged Belshaw was able to continue.
As the game continued, Rovers maintained threats on the Salford goal. Sam Nicholson dragged a low effort narrowly wide from the edge of the penalty area, which caused excitement in the packed away end as it bobbled wide of the upright.
Brett Pitman was introduced with fifteen minutes remaining, the first Rovers change of the evening.
The final ten minutes saw Rovers test Ripley once more, as Nick Anderton's close-range header sparked a scramble in the six-yard area that 'keeper was able to scoop clear. Substitute Luke Thomas had an opening to add the security of a second goal, after being played in by Finley, but directed his attempt wide when going one-on-one with Ripley. Salford were reduced to nine men when Hunter made contact with the face of Josh Grant, with the referee once again brandishing a straight red card.
With 11 minutes of stoppage time, the play was halted as a fan in the Rovers end was attended to by the medical staff of both sides.
Salford found a late equaliser in what was a rare venture into the Rovers penalty area. Brandon Thomas-Asante sprinted forward, holding up both Taylor and Harries and with a swift change of direction, wrong-footed Belshaw with a low finish.
That wasn't the end of the drama, as Pitman found the net with a close-range header and span away in jubilation towards the away end, only for the celebrations to be halted by the linesman's flag.
Rovers travel to Forest Green Rovers this coming Saturday (3pm KO).

Yes, I quoted you out of context but you also said "Pitman looks offside" and he clearly looks onside to me both before the ball is played and when the ball is played. Where he was prior to that or where he scored from isn't relevant. I remain baffled but football is all about opinions and I welcome yours. When we reach the Premier League, we'll have VAR... Yes, perhaps I didn't explain it very well. - If I play the video in real time Pitman looks continuously offside to me. - Before Finley plays the ball Pitman is ahead of the last defender for the length of what we see. - As the ball comes in, and Pitman heads it, he is ahead of the last defender. - At the moment Finley plays the ball (the crucial part) we have a good case. Still difficult to be certain, and I certainly wouldn't mortgage my house on it. - If we had VAR in place we may well have come away with 3 points. - Any linesmen who doesn't put their flag up in that situation would be purely guessing - Pitman would have been onside for such a small fraction of a second (having been offside before and afterwards) you would need super-powers to spot it. Unless Staffordshire/Colyton says a lineman should spot it!

Just watched Joey's interview a very angry man - If over the years he had been able to channel that aggression in a positive manner he might have been in the mix for the Man U job!

Interview character assassination of Luke Thomas ... keep it shut for once Joey. Exaggeration, it was not so bad, angry manager letting his feelings known.Fair enough. Thomas may well need a kick up the bottom.

Just got back.. First of all and more importantly, I hope fella carted out is ok.... thoughts with him and family. Second of all, big shout out to Ripley. M o m by 3 stunning saves, 2 of which in one move. Well well well.... well done us to again throw a winning position away. Almost complete dominance, a brilliant display no matter how many we were playing against. It's just a shame we can't put the game to bed. Very encouraging though....let's hope we can continue fine form and unbeaten run into Saturday. And big shout out to our large vocal support....on a Tuesday night!? Away days - can't beat 'em! [br Ripley, son of former Middleborough and England player Stuart, is a loan signing, and was signed as an emergency loan just prior to their last FACup game( televised) where he , in that game saved SC from going to a replay with several excellent saves

Thanks for the report o2o2bo2ba. As I thought much to be happy about, although only drawing after all that is very very frustrating. We dominated an away game. We need a ruthless edge as I think Joe mentioned. Use our domination, keep concentration levels focused and high. Finish em off! Like the manager, they have no composure. They knock it about fast and furious but need more up front. Our right back allowed the second soft goal in a week, but Barton singled out Thomas who missed a chance, something that happens in every game I watch, especially when the keeper's having a good game. Barton had a rant at Bowyer and tried at him but the assistant ref got in between. Barton rants about decisions not going our way. I don't find that strange at all. Refs and the opposition come well-prepared for Barton's bullish, mouthy antics. He brings it on himself.

Endless critique, presented as some kind of football expertise, but it's actually destructive and very short sighted.

While our inability to finish teams off may bite us on the arse, we have lost 1 in the last 8 league games. Anyone who can't or won't recognise that as an improvement, is being churlish.

If there is one one criticism, we have number 9’s on the books but not on pitch very often. We need a number 9 out there. Will be interesting to see what Barton does with the window. Would be great to have an up and coming 9 who brings 10 or 20 goals a season.

Unequivocally! I just watched the highlights again. Offside? No way Lino. Anyway, onwards and upwards. #UpTheROVERS

Though it was hard to take ay.
Allowing 9 men to equalise after dominating the game.
This morning whilst driving (under the m32), I realised I was actually saying out loud to myself "9 f****** men"!
Oh well, another game to look forward to Saturday against the leaders FGR.

It did cross my mind to write to show some appreciation of the job he's doing, but I realised a large majority of Rovers supporters support Joe. Maybe a Valentine's card next time, when Rovers are looking good back in the 3rd tier.

Interview character assassination of Luke Thomas ... keep it shut for once Joey. Exaggeration, it was not so bad, angry manager letting his feelings known.Fair enough. Thomas may well need a kick up the bottom. Exaggeration? The only exaggeration was JB's criticism of LT. What I will say though is he did have every right to be angry, and in the main came across well. But he went a step too far with LT. Perhaps you didn't hear the full interview, live on Radio Bristol, straight after the game? I see that Rovers official youtube video has edited out that section, so I can only assume the BRFC agree with me and didn't want that to remain in public. Here's something to look at, the headline on the Bristol Post website: "Bristol Rovers boss Joey Barton launches scathing criticism of ex-Derby County man Luke Thomas"www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-rovers-boss-joey-barton-6251316And here's a copy and paste of JB's comments from that article: "Luke Thomas will not get a better opportunity to score a goal in professional football," Barton said. "He doesn’t even hit the target, which sums up where he’s at for me "He’s not wired in, he’s never quite right and he thinks the world owes him a favour. "Unfortunately, if he doesn’t get his finger out, this opportunity at Rovers is going to pass him by. "He came in with a big fanfare of the ability he could have, but constantly when trusted and given opportunities, he doesn’t maximise it "Again, he probably thinks the world owes him something and he’s above the level, but if you’re not sharp and you’re not wired in and you’re not fully fit and you’ve not got your body in the right space, then no matter what level of football you play, you will not be successful. "You’re asking him to go on the pitch. You’re telling him there is going to be space for you and you’re going to have the opportunity to kill these off and we don’t manage to do that." "Luke should score. Let’s be honest, he should score, and I think if he was absolutely wired in and in the right frame of mind all the time, he would score. "But he doesn’t do things right consistently and if you don’t do things right in this game, you don’t get rewarded, you do not become successful by doing the wrong thing. "Before the game, LT is talking to him [Hunter] and I’m saying he’s the last person in this ground you want to talk to. You don’t want to catch what he’s got. "I tell him about getting wired in. I’ve seen so many young players who think they’re going to be the exception to the rule, they’re going to be the ones who do not live their lives right, who can eat fast food, drink fizzy drinks and turn up and think they’re going to perform.
When Luke Thomas arrived, we were told he was struggling with being away in Derby. His move to us was seen as a good fit as he was closer home. This is another example of people on here, and other forums/social media, who change their tune to suit JB's actions. Earlier in the season people rightly praised JB for looking after LT, saying "He needed an arm around his shoulder." Now the tune has changed to "He needs a kick up the bum." Well if he needs a kick up the bum keep it to the dressing room, rather than airing dirty laundry to all and sundry. I thought we were beginning to learn and understand more about mental health issues; I guess I was wrong.

He needs to buck up ,the manager is trying very hard to help him.He can sign players that can do better if LT does'nt improve. Maybe Joe should of not publicly criticised LT,maybe, but as you mentioned he was entitled be angry after the game. Hopefully some good will come from last night.
