JB out. All down to him and defensive substitutions. Coutts changes the game again.....

Alot of good stuff then dropped 2 points in the last few minutes.
Disapointing, but it sounds as if our improvement continues.
UTG!

82 lost after conceding 2 in extra time :-) Oh to lose at home in The Championship. We used to be that bad younger viewers.

I was very close to posting a tidy performance from Rovers bettered opponents. Still Some positives. Pitman was man of the match. A sense our manager tweaked things for the worse towards the end? But at least there is a feel what Barton is trying to do, and the clubs DNA now as we looked very similar to his Fleetwood side tonight. Anyone else thought that too? Two good set ball specialists and lots of free kicks to play with, though not obvious diving, Clumsy Colchester really we’re keen to give those free kicks away. And plenty of time wasting from us, though we might have overdone it a bit.

Very frustrating! We were by far the better side for the first hour. Thomas, Nichoson, Evans and Collins were all excellent and I loved the starting shape.

I know what you mean though, it allowed Nicholson and Thomas to stay wide. Colchester were poor though, so it’s hard to measure how it would have been against FGR or Vale or Swindon tonight.

Dear oh dear oh dear... I suppose you can't make discipline a point of protest under a JAB team?
If ever there was a manual of writing how to press self destruct button and almost throw away everything you worked hard for in a match - this was the match to see!
We just sat back and invited them on, then decided to make unforced mistakes and masters of our own downfall.
Why is Coutts involved anywhere in our team? He displaces players and seems to bring confusion to the place....we look awful when he's there.
JAB got the subs and timings all wrong....from being imposing, dominant and threatening we conspired to almost lose the match .... But as I posted a plumped for a draw, I guess I've got to be happy with that .......but what if? 🤔
Barton got it wrong tonight after 75mins. No ref, no weather, no injuries, no excuses....he got it wrong!

Well, yes - good point re the 3! We didn't get pushed into a back 5 tonight and the link-up play through midfield was excellent for most of the game. Dare JB start with the same attacking formation against Newport on Saturday, who persistently play 3-5-2?

Is Collins going to hit some special goals for us, but not hit many? A touch of Nico Syndrome as you called striker yet to score excellent? I liked Tommy Nichols, forward play is not all about goals in this day and age. Movement and touch from forwards = team performance, it makes goals.

Newport too good for us to expect three points? A Newport win puts Joey on the brink, that’s what this late goal done tonight?

I hope we try to take the game to Newport on Saturday, just as we did for the first hour tonight against Colchester. Keep it on the deck and start with some of our best attacking players - and we look really good.

No ref, no weather, no injuries, no excuses....he got it wrong! once upon time, younger viewers, there weren’t any subs, and for many years just 1! Getting subs right is very much a part of the modern game, that great managers of the past never knew. What I think it means when you have so many subs to play with, is you can change formation. Or react well to your opponents changes, better than you could in days of less subs. So it favours thinking on the feet tactics?
as he is making these changes we were all thinking, what is this doing to the formation and tactic, that didn’t seem broken enough to tweak? Yet to be fair to Barton there isn’t a do nothing option, if your opponents are looking for overload and Chuck kitchen sink in, you have to respond somehow?
But Joey tonight left all the over thirties on till final whistle? there wasn’t a fresh runner as out ball to halt the relentless pressure, it was whipper snappers hauled off. So not like for like subs, or fresh legs on for the Bathchair Midfield Generals. And as for the knew shape to see the game out, does anyone know for sure what thethinking was, back five with wingbacks?

Yet the fear the stronger sides in this division could exploit inclusion of the extra flair at the expense of extra strength and grit? I have this suspicion we would go on longer unbeaten runs this season if Cocko was our manager from here on. You know what I mean?

Out of interest, does former Newport boss Mike Flynn have a new job yet?

We ended up with a defacto team that started the first half so woefully on Saturday. Lessons haven't been learned. I take your point about subs being used or over used, but it begs a question of if wasn't broken, why fix it? .... and if you're going to try to fix it, why fix it with something as broken as a first half shambles capitulation v Bradford?? It's 2 points thrown away. Positives though: 60 mins of sometimes inspiring football. Alfie getting forward to present clear chance open play opportunity on goal (I ask again, when have we had a central defender so versatile?). Harries until his sending off again taking booking for the team and some brilliant blocking. Slow in possession though. Luke Thomas again growing into the game. Another Evans assist and looked great passing throughout. Whelan getting stuck in. Taylor getting his head on everything. Pitman doing what he does best and unlucky, he could have had a hat trick tonight if luck had been on his side. Much to be pleased about.

Out of interest, does former Newport boss Mike Flynn have a new job yet? I don’t think he has. He was sacked when he had Covid? Pre season favourites sacked manager when 15th. Not all clubs do that, some see building on stability the best way out this league. Like ours. 😐 Bradford beaten at home by Pool tonight.
