Very difficult to be positive about this one (without at least 2 of Oztumer, Daley, Nicholson returning from injury). Peterborough are top of the Home Form Table (25 pts from 10 games). Bristol Rovers are 18th in the Away Form Table (12pts from 11 games). Posh currently 3rd, Gas 19th (outside the relegation zone on goal difference). Last 5 league games: Posh DDWWW Gas LWLLL (General best odds Posh 4-6, Gas 9-2, Draw 3-1). Reasons to be cheerful? Anyone, anyone?

Well we hope for players to recover from injury and work hard on the training ground. Pick up as many points as possible as we deal with some tough looking games, one at a time.
I see from 13th February to the 2nd March we play
Swindon home, Gills away, Wigan Ath home, Shrews home, Burton Ath away.
Almost certainly vital we pick up plenty of points in this part of the season.

There's less of an advantage playing at home behind closed doors... but, sadly we are away Tuesday. Not sure I can justify another £10 iFollow.

You have to assume that Tis has looked at the remaining fixtures and earmarked where we can pick up points, enough to stay up. That can be extended to wondering if that's why Nicholson, Daley, Oz haven't come back yet. Maybe they are being saved for the games he thinks we can win.

I think PT II will have the injured back as soon as possible. We create chances,so take a fair percentage of these ,improve defensive play and Bob's your uncle!-) I wonder if somehow (£) we could sign the big striker Gnanduillet. His signature would be a huge step to playing 3rd tier next season.

One thing we definitely need to do is improve our set-piece defending. It's been costing us basic goals all season. Surely one of the few advantages of having 4 Centre Backs on the field is that you should be stronger at defending those sitiuations.

Surely one of the few advantages of having 4 Centre Backs on the field is that you should be stronger at defending those sitiuations. Geoff Twentymann offered up some Gerry Francis wisdom on discussing Rovers defence from dead ball situations Irish. "Attraction of the opposites". Big CH picks up big striker eg. Big striker helping out the defence picks up opposition big attacking CH.Etc. Logic from - I suspect - along time before Gerry was at Rovers. Commonsense defending. I mean we did it in amateur football in the 70s. Big aggressive bloke picks up oppositions big aggressive bloke. Uncomplicated and effective. Yes,you maybe playing zonal defence etc,but generally speaking hav'nt we seen how overcomplicating football is usually disastrous.Iceland beating England eg. Ben Garner eg. It reminds me of some i know, who insist in intellectualising all music. They lack soul, spirit and fun. Absolutely useless. Time for a Sunday stroll soon....

Posh have a lot of threats in their lineup, Szmodics, Dembele, Eisa and of course our old friend JCH, it’s going to be a really tough game. However, I hope we don’t set up with 4 centre backs + Grant and Upson/Ogogo on the pitch again.
Let’s face it, we aren’t that good at defending, so lets play to our strengths instead. Simple 4 at the back, move Ehmer back to the CB position, have Williams as a right back. Then start with Ayunga and Hanlan up top and maybe some more attacking oriented midfielders on the field like Rodman or Barrett.
It’s unlikely that we’ll keep a clean sheet, so lets look like we can score a couple of goals instead. In the second halves of the Crewe and Oxford games we’ve looked a lot better when we’ve made substitutes and changed our shape to go more attacking.

I look forward to three points as part of the JCH deal and their commentators saying what a handful Hanlan is. I can't see Posh putting four men on him like others do with the attack they've got so he'll bag a hat trick and Ehmer will get the fourth with a mis**t cross from the right sneaking in off the underside of the crossbar. I also believe pigs fly.

I'm hoping for anything other than a horror show!. A very difficult away fixture with us in poor form, hope to see Daly, Nicholson & Oztu take part to try and steady the ship, not expecting anything other than a defeat and a sound thrashing at that....I hope we go for it instead of clogging the field with Defenders & Defensive Midfielders. COYB!!!

Can we learn from these summaries of three Posh defeats this season? (Reports summarised from BBC Sport). Cups are strange, but Chorley also won at London Road and Burton have drawn with Posh, twice this season (once in the League and once in a cup).
Wimbledon 2 Posh 1 2 Dec 2020
Wimbledon's best chance of the first half came on the counter-attack ... The hosts found their rhythm after the break and hit the front, tapping in a spilled effort. Wimbledon doubled the lead on the hour, scrambling the ball home from a scrappy corner. Jonson Clarke-Harris lashed in the goal of the night from a 25-yard free-kick with five minutes remaining but Posh could not find an equaliser.
Possession Wimbledon 32:68 Posh Shots On Target 4/9 v 4/16 Fouls 15 v 6
Posh 1 Blackpool 2 21 Nov 2020
The Seasiders hit the front in the 19th minute … turned smartly to fire past goalkeeper … after being picked out by … cross from the left. They were guilty of squandering a host of other chances.
Posh equalised in the 84th minute, a header from a corner.
Blackpool struck from close range to tuck away a cross in the last minute.
Possession Posh 58:42 Blackpool Shots On Target 2/10 v 6/10 Fouls 11 v 12
Crewe 2 Posh 0 14 Nov 2020
[Crewe] dominated the first half, repelling what little Posh had to throw at them after the break. …dead ball - a left-footed finish into the bottom corner via the inside of a post. The leaders struggled to get out of their own half in the first period, such was Crewe's accurate passing and the determination of their press. Crewe keeper ...was untroubled Posh's plight deepened …risky cross-field pass was intercepted … raced clear and thrashed the ball into the corner for Crewe's second four minutes before the break. Darren Ferguson's side improved in the second half but posed a limited threat.
Possession Crewe 56:44 Posh Shots On Target 3/10 v 3/10 Fouls 9 v 15

Peterborough odds on a win now tightened (everywhere) to 8-15 or 1-2, draw slightly wider than 3-1 and the Gas win widening (everywhere) to 5-1. For some odd reason Ladbrokes gave me a free £5 bet. Forgive me dear Father, for I have sinned. I stuck it on 4-0 Posh @ 20-1. Don't think I've ever seen this in a football bet:https://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/league-1/peterborough-united-v-bristol-rovers/winner Posh win attracting around 90% of activity. Draw attracting around 10% of activity. Gas win attracting 0% of activity. Yikes.

Yes, when I started looking into their defeats, with the Wimbledon game, I thought "Aha - the key is the patient approach, concede possession, counter-attack". Then I saw that Crewe took entirely the opposite tack! Maybe you just need to catch them on a bad day!
