Murray's fitness let him down again, he played an amazing second set, but his only chance was to win that in 3 sets.

It's only been a year since surgery, and the amount Andy puts on his body is unreal really, I'm sure he had his targets set for 2015 and beyond, with the close season approaching, he may hopefully come back stronger, because the bombs he was throwing in that second set was some of the best tennis I've seen him play!

Roger Federer saved two match points as he beat Gael Monfils to keep alive his hopes of an 18th Grand Slam title at the US Open.
The Swiss won 4-6 3-6 6-4 7-5 6-2 in a dramatic New York night session to reach the semi-finals.
Federer, 33, goes on to face Croatia's Marin Cilic in the last four on Saturday.
Marin Cilic dismantled an out-of-sorts Tomas Berdych in straight sets to reach the semi-finals of the US Open.
Cilic, the 14th seed, dominated on his own serve and was aided by a string of Berdych errors to win 6-2 6-4 7-6 (7-4) in two hours and four minutes.
Semi-Finals 1 Djokovic (Ser) v Nishikori (Jpn) 10 14 Cilic (Cro) v Federer (Swi) 2

Wow. Two huge semi final shocks. Nisihkori and Cilic into final. Never saw any of the 1st match, but have to say Cilic played some "Lights Out" tennis. Some of the greatest service returns I have ever seen. 1st time for 9 years that one of the big four hasnt contested a Slam final.

Agree, After the big swiss cheese came back with those heroics v monfils and gluten losing, what better chance for him to win another slam. Both 1 and 2 seeds were slaughtered....should be a good final with IMO a Cillic win.

If Cilic returns serve anything like he did last evening he will win. But lets not forget that Kei has taken out most of the top 5 on his run at this tournament.Since the Madrid final, where he had Rafa down and out, but had a problem with his back,he has a new found belief that he belongs in this company.

I see Serena Williams won her 18th slam bringing her in line with Martina and Chris Evert.....some stats: open era only.
Martina Navratilova...1,442 career games - 219 losses = 86.80% win rate - titles 167...retired aged 38. Chris Evert Lloyd...1,309 - 146 = 89.96% - 157...retired aged 35. Steffi Graf...902 - 115 = 88.69% - 107...retired aged 30. Serena Williams...677 - 118 = 85.15% - 63...aged 32.
She has a long way to go to compete with those real legends imo.

Croatia's Marin Cilic won his first Grand Slam title with a comprehensive straight-sets win over Kei Nishikori of Japan at the US Open.
Cilic won 6-3 6-3 6-3 to become the first Croat to win one of the four tennis majors since his coach, Goran Ivanisevic, at Wimbledon in 2001.
The 14th seed dominated throughout on a cool, breezy day in New York, hitting 17 aces and dropping serve just once in one hour and 54 minutes.
His victory completes a Grand Slam year that has seen eight different winners of the singles titles across the men's and women's games, for the first time since 1998.
Not quite the final it really should have been...

Britain's Andy Murray defeated Juan Monaco 2-6 6-3 6-0 at the Shenzhen Open to reach his first final since winning Wimbledon last year.
He will face Tommy Robredo in Sunday's final in China after the Spaniard earlier beat Santiago Giraldo 6-1 6-4.
"Tommy will be a very tough opponent. I will need to play a really good match if I want to win," said Murray.
Murray's semi-final victory boosts his hopes of qualifying for the ATP World Tour Finals at the 02 Arena in November.
A win for Murray, currently ranked 11th in the world, will rise above Grigor Dimitrov into 10th place in the race to qualify for the finals.

Great news for Andy. A win at the start of the far east swing. Rafa back next week. Hope his wrist is ok. You only have to look at Delpos continuing absence to realise that some of them can be very serious.
