It was mentioned last night that Rovers have now kept a clean sheet on four consecutive home games. Apparently this is the first time this has happened for ten years !

Maybe. But you take your pleasure where you can get it. And tonight was a pleasure. No maybe about it. The club's natural position is the top end of League One (possibly even the lower end of the championship), not languishing in the middle of the league below. Beating the likes of Sutton should be expected, not celebrated. That is so last century. We haven’t been that club for the last 22 years, let alone 5 or 6. And without the ability to compete on equal terms with the Sunderland, Ipswich and Charltons of this world it ain’t going to change any time soon. The legacy of still being in a ramshackle ‘stadium’ I suppose.

Promotion from T4 on last day of season was not good enough! How many years of history should be looked at to say where we should be? Compare against Notts County, Wrexham, Grimsby.....

Haven’t been able to get there for a few weeks. Excited and already in the pub. Was it because i was in the pub early......that first half was comfortably the best football we have played for some time. The old should have been 3 or 4 up by HT was true. Shame the pen was at such a comfortable height. Collins was incredible, if he keeps that confidence going, he can have the 9 on his back.

I don’t think I said that, though we should never have been a conference club. To me that is an embarrassment, not something to be celebrated. A triumph of mis management at all levels.

Very good performance last night. the only minor criticism is missing the penalty and occasionally looking for an extra pass rather than take a shot on A saying as old as time, but if we played like that every week.. In the space of a week, I`ve stood and watched three vastly different performances.
An abject capitulation to the side second bottom of the league. A battling draw at home to a side vying for a promotion spot. And a demolition of another side, in contention for automatic promotion. What next? They remind me of Stingray. "Anything can happen in the next half hour."
Perhaps the story of being a gashead alf! 😉 UTG!

The legacy of still being in a ramshackle ‘stadium’ I suppose. Its really quite simple, but some don't seem to get it and are therefore seemingly in continual pain and suffering continual angst. Last night we were playing Sutton. No one else. As much as we wished it was WBA, Forest, etc we were not. We played Sutton. When playing Sutton, we would either win, draw, or lose. Nothing else. When playing Sutton, we would either play well, average, or crap. So get your head round it, and enjoy a good win. If your 'bar' is WBA or Forest that's something to correctly aim for, and I agree 100% its where we should be. But until we are, its ok to celebrate a good win and an excellent performance. If you cant, then you are probably in the wrong place, as the chances are you will suffer years of continued pain and possibly bitterness due to not matching your expectations. My 'Bar' does not end at WBA or Forest, its Brentford & Burnley but I sure am still going to celebrate good wins v Sutton or anyone else we play in a hopeful upward journey. And whilst we are at it, is it not a bit disrespectful to Sutton? Same with the likes of Harrogate. Do we need to rename some clubs to have 'Only' in their name, but not all? Just so that we can temper things if we got 3 points? Bradford City Leyton Orient Only Harrogate Port Vale Carlisle Only Forest Green Northampton Only Sutton Some older people will know that many years ago Liverpool were 'Only Liverpool' in the old second division.

Yes, after all that’s been said about the defence I make that 250+ minutes without conceding. (2 matches + 70 mins v Oldham) it looked like a back 4 yesterday, Hoole and Anderton at FB with Connolly and Taylor at CH, much more secure. UTG!

Yes. And this false sense of entitlement led us into the conference after years of complacency in the noughties and later. Istr the “relegation is not an option” quote just before we were relegated out of the league. Well that proved a load of bs. We are where we are and if we want to be higher then we need to respect all we play, roll our sleeves up, work hard and never believe we’re better than we are. Then we may get out of this b***** awful league. But until we do I’ll enjoy every win, every goal we score whoever it’s against. UTG!

Good result, but one swallow does not make a spring. The club is still massively underachieving and is still well below where we should be in the table, especially when you consider the size of our budget in comparison to clubs like Sutton. Results have improved, but that really isn't saying much. So when people speak about how they see the team 'progressing', I take this with a pinch of salt. I still remain unconvinced that the team has the ability and consistency to break into the playoff reckoning, and I don't expect much from the games in hand. I think we will finish around 10th/11th. Plus it has to be remembered that our best are on loan, regardless of end of season deals, they can be called back. As you rightly say, it is consistency we lack and as much as i would love us to keep winning, i do not see it happening. We also need to take the chances missed. If we can do both then possibly a play off berth. What happens with loans at end of regular season please ?

Barton Haters missed a treat last night. Shame. Not sure what Sutton's game plan was, don't often see teams playing wide open like that away from home. I'm not complaining though. Makes a change from the tight niggly tactics in this division. Collins is the best forward we've had since Lambert I reckon and will only get better. They did seem to stick to 4-4-2 but our wingers got around them almost at will. When you’re not playing with a recognised CF and number 10 the two central defenders don’t seem to know who/how to mark. The outcome was a fast, flowing game where our skilful players were able to showcase their talents. That doesn’t happen very often because L2 teams tend to stifle, close down and spoil. I thought Belshaw pushed the envelope as far as he dared with his slow motion goal kicks and general ball release. He probably managed to kill a good 5 minutes overall, and got a couple of ‘hurry ups’ from the ref, who I thought overall had a decent enough game. The 2 Lino’s missed a fair bit, although I was too far away to comment on the offside goal.

Rather odd as we were missing key players last night. Nevertheless you were superb on the night, maybe we can get our revenge in the playoffs

I really enjoyed that one, I thought that in the away game at Sutton, Rovers had hinted that they were capable of playing the brand of football they played last night. It was the sort of game that happens on few occasions in a season, when everything goes right(apart from the missed chances) from the start! It was the polar opposite from the first half against Mansfield, when two consecutive passes seem to be an ambition, with the ball sailing out for thrown ins and goal kicks too often. There was no tricky wind last night, which made it easier to play the ball along the floor, and Rovers went for Sutton right from the start. The interplay was excellent to watch, with E Anderson fitting in very well, having quick feet, and being able to retain the ball under pressure, especially from throw in situations. He can also turn comfortably on the ball, always looking for one twos. Collins was really impressive, I like the way he can turn with the ball, run at defenders, often slaloming between them, or getting a free kick. Thatcher was the best I have seen Nicholson play for some time, and Rovers had so many options going forwards. At half time I was a bit concerned that Rovers hadn’t got a second or third goal, and was a bit concerned, having seen this happen so many times, that the opposition go up a gear after the break, snatch an equaliser, and the game changes completely. That didn’t happen, the second goal arrived quickly in the second half, and even though there were a couple of sloppy defensive moments, Sutton we’re never a consistent threat, and a succession of corners and throw ins were dealt with quite comfortably. Didn’t realise until after the game that Sutton were missing key players, but they couldn’t have complained if Rovers had scored five or six goals. For me, that was the best performance of the season, the play offs are still a bit of a long shot, but you never know, especially if we can beat obvious rivals in the top few, such as Exeter, Newport, Salford etc. Every three points gained increases confidence, it is asking a lot for such a young defence to keep doing it consistently for the next three months, but the next game is the most important, let’s hope the same Rovers turn up at Stevenage!

1 defeat in 9 and two consecutive games without conceding. Play offs are on. It's starting to look like it. Is it? Maybe it's you and not Joe Barton that's full of s**t.
