So proud to be gas today to be associated with that performance. It was a bit ragged towards the end, but proper football that built us into a strong position. We just about deserved a win, but it was far better than last week considering opponents in good form. Hardon bit limp in first half with Lincoln hands all over him at times, but he found cutting edge penetration in the second half. I’m not going to get into any naysayers faces, because it’s early days for this new young side, however If you chart our level performance so far this season and draw a line through it, it’s an upward line. if anything I am surprised the upward line on performance chart is so steep, as a new side you would anticipate off days when it doesn’t work at all needing get back on it in following games t keep the upward line. Even the results graph must have a steep upward curve on it at the same time. we are two points off Posh and 1 off maccam after the opening fixtures we were dealt up?

Words to describe today
Surprising Determined Deserved Team spirit Defence Hanlan Slick Hopeful
Really well done to Ben Garner. This was no lucky win, there were signs in the first half that they could get something out of this game. Kilgour, Leahy and Little out, Baldwin, Tutonda and Hare in, what a difference.
Lincoln came back late last week and we held out.
We must take this into the next game. 7 pts after those 5 games is no mean feat and not lucky.
Picking the same 11 and they earned their places to a man.
My favourite formation 3-5-2 suits this group just like it did Coughlan's. Play to the strengths of the players you have, not try and fit them in.
All round pegs today. This team will not finish bottom 4. Of that I am now convinced. What a great win.

Almond. Studded. Cheeseballs. Up the Rovers! I don't actually know what that means Dave, but I like it!👍 Yep,"getting better all the time" and noticeably. The whole episode of GC leaving, where we were in table, where we we went in table etc etc made it difficult for me - and plenty of others I'm sure - to get into the BG thing. We hav'nt even seen them at the Mem,close up as it were,to get this improvement.I have local connection problems and other technical problems to Ifollow too. This has'nt helped.A strange time for sure.Etc. For the record I maintain GC could of seen us promoted,a baffling Gas episode, but it's no good clinging to a memory when the present eternally remains. It's great to know improvement is happening,'the Garnerball' is happening. I think the improvement will continue and BG will see Rovers become challengers. Although it took a while 😏 ,I'm a believer.

I suspect I wasn't the only one who though 'game over' when we conceded.

The result being a major part of course Rex,but from what I can tell (YT highlights) the team are improving.I always thought BG signed decent players. BG describes the Daly goal.Nice ball to Josh Hare, great cross and for me the execution of the goal is really very good and apparently down to coaching.I use to moan about how many good ball good crosses Ellis eg (plenty of others) use to not meet because of reacting after the ball was sent into the area.Yesterday ,Daly reacted early and beat the defender to the ball.Good coaching and very satisfying. I'll save a place at the 'Believers Bar' for ya mate.🙂

Nor do I Steve 😊 I should just stick to drinking tea when I'm watching these games ... I agree. Graham Coughlan was my last hope of seeing the team I have followed/watched/cursed/cried over, for the past seventy-odd years, relive a little of the 1950s ... then, "Rovers 'til I Die " would be my contented exit cry. Blimey mate, first The Fab4 and now The Monkees. #GarnerBall

It's great to know improvement is happening,'the Garnerball' is happening. I think the improvement will continue and BG will see Rovers become challengers. Although it took a while 😏 ,I'm a believer. in terms of the Garner ball, we didn’t see as much of it at Lincoln as against Doncaster for quickly turning over and cutting through territory to cause Doncaster problems. Glass chin told for us at Doncaster, even though offensively we had more tempo and goal threat than at Lincoln. What was impressive at Lincoln though, although possession stat told against us in the end, for the first 20 minutes we kept the ball well, kept it away from them and kept them away from our goal. I expect the glass chin to return soon, it’s impossible to expect week by week improvements without an off day. It’s right to build a new team from the back, but it takes time for players to settle at a club, learn a managers system, this back five have never played together before they are going to need time to learn about each other. So inexplicably, next Saturday or at salop, we just won’t turn up and perform, and show a glass chin. Part of the early season goals we conceded was lack of screen from midfield, and poor set piece defence. As for Cocko and what Garner had to live up to, it was a great unbeaten run to high place in table, but it was not a great or convincing watch, we seldom looked like top six football, but neither did Wycombe with same approach, Cocko told us himself opponents were beginning to suss us out, and if he stayed he would have had an injury crisis to contend with. And although it was high place in table, the nature of the table at time, we were well clear of relegation battle, but points so tight from 4th to nowhere, I say, off the top of my head.

Looking forward to the Burton game.We lost there last season to two very late goals and recall their keeper punching the air at the final whistle in front of us so will be nice to beat them this time.Tiny crowds Burton ,their newish soulless stadium is also tiny but suits them perfectly and they are in Staffordshire!!!!!

Yep we always do the Burton game along with the brother in law who's from Burton but supports the Gas. They seem to be a bit of a bogey team because we either put in a crap performance or they are just damn right lucky. As a result we always seem to end up staying in the bar at half time and watch the second half on the tv.
Tis a tiny ground with a feeble support The only difference between Burton at home in the real world and Burton at home with Covid restrictions is that the real world their 'Home End' is always sold out as all twelve seats are snapped up before match day.
Well done BG and the boys yesterday UTG

Wow! They are indeed!? Just about.... right on border. Wonder if they were always Staffs, as they have a Derby postcode? Have had two brilliant days out there... although the final score hasn't reconciled those...we tend to do quite well v Burton at home. I remember a 7-0 tonking and a Darryl Duffy home goal to secure a win. Reasons to be cheerful...

Anyway,I'm looking forward to seeing our current team developed into challengers. “I could do with getting to know the team more“ It’s only been a handful of games but it’s changed a bit. when it was three across front they were too wide to play with each other, England done the 3 up thing better today by having them narrow. it’s been the settled 5 3 2 the last couple of games. If Hanlon looked a bit double teamed at Lincoln, it was harder work for him without a strike partner, the wider in the old 3 were sitting too deep not running channels that helped him. we seem a different side with Ansii in goal, but it’s not entirely obvious why, maybe a mixture of better shot stopping and decision making than Jordi, team has more confidence in him, and maybe subtle things from him vocally we don’t pick up on. back three. Aye mere who they have made Captain, but he hasn’t stood out for me or been error free. Harries who people say distributes well, but lot of his long balls aren’t that great in my opinion, but his defending isn’t bad. And Baldwin who had a good game at Lincoln, 1 howler of mistake against Northampton. But I like Kilgour in the back 3, he was played as right back in 1 game, that’s not his position, nor a good reason to drop him. The tall guy we got from Coventry could arguably come into that back 3 and improve it. wing backs. Hare is a fantastic signing. His crossing is something else, if it’s fantasy football you would have him in for his assists. But dependable in defensive part of the role too. Mr T. Fan favourite. Leggy, bombs up and down like someone from Latin football, beat 2 yesterday to put one fantastic cross in. He’ll be in the showboat next Saturday morning. As a manager though, asking for discipline not expression, I wouldn’t be too sure about him. 1 ball winning midfielder in grant, who looked painfully inexperienced in the early games, but stood out at Lincoln. I have hope of him growing into the side, but he isn’t it yet, and a screen for a defence is crucial as winning sides need midfielders with awareness to follow the runners and space seekers so they can’t do business unchallenged. Creative midfielders. Westbrook I have as the deeper sitter, as he comes deeper to ask for ball, I have not been impressed by his delivery of dead ball. McCormick I like, he was properly supporting the front two with his space seeking movement. 2 up front. Daly has not really played a back to goal role, but he popped up intelligently in the box to score, also worked their keeper with firm shots after cutting in from different sides of pitch. Hanlan is fantastic. He receives it back to goal and rarely lets you down. It becomes a game of the ball sticking to him and opponents trying to get it off him. He’s won both pen in these win legitimately by being dangerous in possession in the box. hope this helps
