Tuesday 11th June 2024 - Nottingham Open
Ena Shibahara v Emma Raducanuichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/11/c9bf9679-9880-4dfd-876e-96eaf0801214.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/11/11f97e58-829f-4f89-9a0d-0fd3c1878c4d.jpgBritain's Emma Raducanu said she was in a "really fit place" yesterday. The 21-year-old skipped the French Open to focus on her fitness, having not played since losing in the first round of the Madrid Open in April. "Body-wise, physical-wise, I feel really healthy. I feel really strong," said Raducanu, who played her first WTA match at Nottingham in 2021 before going on to win the US Open later that year. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/11/a4dd59ee-e4b8-4ad1-941e-23f594eec007.jpgEmma Raducanu had surgery on her right wrist and an ankle in May last year before a further operation followed on her left wrist. It required her to use a mobility scooter to get around, with her admitting it was difficult to "shut your body down". "I think it's very easy for me to lose sight of where I was exactly a year ago because it is pretty much a year ago to this day, this month," she said. "You get so caught up in your own world that you want more and more and more. But a year ago I was on a scooter scooting around and I didn't know - there was an element of doubt. "To be healthy and to be here, I need to cherish it." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/639/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/11/b8699092-6188-463e-b665-97b1c1ce16ca.jpgEna Shibahara is at a career-high 279th in the world in the singles. But it's in the doubles where the 26-year-old has so far made her name. She won her first major title at the 2022 French Open alongside Wesley Koolhof in the mixed. And she also reached the women's doubles semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2021, and the Australian Open in 2022. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/11/7ba1f0b2-4483-450a-9153-9ae05627efc3.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/11/09d665bd-7380-41f5-abf7-34fafea367dd.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/11/92cc215a-9be7-4e51-a506-f64ca0ccc243.jpgGame and first set Raducanu - Shibahara 1-6 Raducanu* ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/11/2bd9c22a-d2f4-4c5d-8336-112498de91fa.jpg

Emma Raducanu speaking after her win: "It's been quite a few weeks since I last played a competitive match so I didn't really know how it would go. I think my intentions were great from the start. "I think I played a really good match. At the end I think inevitably if you're 6-1 5-1 up something probably could go wrong. I was trying to not let it get to my head and just preparing and fighting for each point. I knew that even though I lost three games in a row I still had a chance to win the match. "I'm very pleased with how I dealt with the circumstances today. "It's amazing to be playing on home turf, it's been so long since I last played in the UK. To come here and feel like everyone is really behind me is really nice. I'm cherishing every moment of that too."

Katie Boulter beats Harriet Dart in marathon Nottingham match..
i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article33001547.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200d/0_JS336038211.jpg Harriet DartDefending champion Katie Boulter edged out Harriet Dart in a marathon all-British tie to reach the second round of the Nottingham Open. Opening her grass-court season, third seed Boulter won 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 7-5 in a contest lasting three hours and 13 minutes. But the enthralling match was tainted as a frustrated Dart repeatedly argued with the chair umpire over what she believed to be incorrect line calls. Their dispute reached its height during a change of ends in the second set, after a ball from Boulter was called out but overruled by umpire Kelly Rask. In response, Dart offered a £50,000 bet that the ball in question was out. "The ball is so far out, this is embarrassing. You're embarrassing yourself. You should be embarrassed," the 27-year-old told Rask. After asking to speak to the tournament referee, Dart then accused Rask of "threatening" her with a code violation. i2-prod.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article33001548.ece/ALTERNATES/s1200e/0_JS336039200.jpgKatie BoulterSpeaking after the match, Dart said the line calling was "pretty appalling" and called for technology to be used across the sport. On her dispute with Rask, she said: "Give me a code violation or don't. I think she was a bit embarrassed by the situation. We are all professionals here. "I have played so many tennis matches in my career and this one was a little bit disappointing with some of the things. I think she can also reflect on that." British number one Boulter will play Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland or Canada's Rebecca Marino in the second round. The 27-year-old's victory in Nottingham 12 months ago was her first WTA title. "That was an absolute battle," Boulter, ranked 30th in the world, said of her contest with Dart. "[Dart] is an incredible grass-court player. I tried to do the best I could because she was playing seriously good stuff. "I would have taken a much easier win, that's for sure. I'm not sure I've seen a three hour, 13 minute grass-court match. I'm not sure that's possible."

Emma Raducanu hits out at 'INSANE' umpiring calls during her straight sets victory over Ena Shibahara..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/06/11/19/85987141-13519093-image-a-2_1718131521684.jpgEmma Raducanu defied a shaky finish to get her grass-court season off to a winning start at the Nottingham Open, despite what she called “insane” line calls against her. Playing her first match since April, having opted to skip the French Open to focus on her fitness, the 21-year-old Briton beat Japan’s Ena Shibahara 6-1 6-4. Raducanu said she felt like she was “playing two v one” against Shibahara and the umpire Ana Carvalho. Electronic line-calling technology is not in use at the Nottingham tournament. Raducanu’s comments come a day after fellow Briton Harriet Dart repeatedly argued with the umpire over what she believed to be incorrect line calls during her defeat by Katie Boulter. "I feel like I was playing two v one on court, it was insane," said Raducanu. "I think a lot of the time they go both ways, today I felt they were all against me but it just makes me feel better that I managed to beat her and the umpire as well. "It is difficult when there is no challenge but it is something everyone has to deal with. "You can be fortunate in some ways, maybe it was just trying to make the match more competitive. It was 6-1 and 5-1 and all of a sudden first point serving at 5-3 it's a really bad line call. "It's something I had to deal with and overcome. I am very pleased with the attitude I came out with from the get-go and also having to deal with the adversity." In a statement to BBC Sport, the LTA said it has a "highly trained workforce" of umpires. It continued: "Along with the rest of tour events we will be moving to electronic line calling for ATP Tour-Level events in 2025. This continues to be a topic that we discuss with the WTA at our tournament meetings.” i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/06/11/19/85987145-13519093-image-a-3_1718131553873.jpgTuesday's match came 713 days after Raducanu's last appearance on grass, having had wrist and ankle surgeries in 2023 that ruled her out of Wimbledon. Playing at the venue of her very first WTA match in 2021, months before her astounding run to the US Open title, Raducanu showed her intent early on by breaking Shibahara in the opening game. Shibahara, predominantly a doubles player who won the French Open mixed title in 2022, was playing her first singles match on grass at Tour level but proved no match for Raducanu in the early stages. After saving two break points, the British number six went on a run of seven successive games to see out the first set and continue into the second, halted only by a Shibahara hold to love. But, after going a double break up with a 5-1 lead, cracks started to appear in Raducanu's performance as calls went against her. Serving for the match, she conceded a break for the first time, before Shibahara then held to love for a second time. At the third time of asking, the Japanese player broke again to wipe out Raducanu's second-set advantage. But that was where Shibahara's resurgence ended as Raducanu sealed her place in the second round, converting her first match point on her opponent's serve. She will face Daria Snigur next after the Ukrainian defeated compatriot and second seed Marta Kostyuk 6-3 6-3. "It's been quite a few weeks since I last played a competitive match so I didn't really know how it would go," said Raducanu. "I think my intentions were great from the start." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/06/11/19/85988709-13519093-image-a-7_1718132360998.jpg

Katie Boulter cruises into Nottingham quarter-finals..by Joe Rindl, BBC Sport journalist.www.imageservera.com/cdn-cgi/image/format=webp/uploadedimages/202406/Jun12/CR_Katie-Boulter-12064041.jpgDefending champion Katie Boulter reached the third round of the Nottingham Open with an assured win over Canadian qualifier Rebecca Marino. The British number one broke early in both sets in her 6-4 6-4 victory to set up a quarter-final tie with either fifth seed Magdalena Frech or Tatjana Maria. But despite her win, secured in one hour 14 minutes, the third seed warned "it's going to take some time" before she hits her top form on grass. Boulter is building towards Wimbledon, which starts on 1 July. Having needed more than three hours to beat Harriet Dart in the first round, she got off to a dream start on centre court by breaking Marino's second service game. She defended two break points while serving for the opener before taking the set with a fine forehand Marino could only return into the net. In the second, she broke twice to lead 3-0 but then uncharacteristically lost her next service game having been 40-0 up. The world number 30 was unperturbed though, breaking Marino for a fourth time to win the match. "I'm very realistic, for me it's about bedding in some of this momentum," she added. "I'm going to take it one match at a time and see how far we can go." Later on Wednesday British number five Heather Watson was beaten by Czech sixth seed and 2016 champion Karolina Pliskova 6-4 6-4.

Emma Raducanu looks formidable on grass again as she demolishes Ukraine's Daria Snigur..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/06/13/13/86072309-13526323-image-a-2_1718281372217.jpgBritain's Emma Raducanu continued her Wimbledon preparations by cruising into the quarter-finals of the Nottingham Open with a straight-set win over Ukraine's Daria Snigur. Raducanu - playing only her second match since April after deciding to skip the French Open to focus on her fitness - made light work of the world number 127 to win 6-2 6-2. The 21-year-old made a shaky start to the second-round match as Snigur, 22, broke her serve in the opening game. Both players then held serve before former US Open champion Raducanu reeled off six games in a row - including a double break - to win the first set. A confident Raducanu then secured two breaks of serve in the second set to advance to the last eight, where she will face compatriot Fran Jones or American Ashlyn Krueger. After ceding the first game, Raducanu's serve was particularly impressive. She sent down 11 aces thanks to a new-look action she has adopted since reuniting with childhood coach Nick Cavaday. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/06/13/13/86072347-13526323-image-a-3_1718281377448.jpgSnigur also found it difficult to cope with the power Raducanu produced from her groundstrokes, most notably her forehand. Raducanu had been unhappy with a number of line calls during her first-round win over Japan's Ena Shibahara, and she was seen questioning umpire Thomas Sweeney during the win over Snigur. But the world number 209 put her frustration aside to make it back-to-back wins for the third time this year as she builds up to Wimbledon, which starts on 1st July. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/06/13/13/86072303-13526323-Emma_Raducanu_above_defeated_Ukraine_s_Daria_Snigur_to_reach_her-a-20_1718281795524.jpg

Emma Raducanu to face Katie Boulter in Nottingham Open semi-final..

Jones, 23, another Briton, was scheduled to face Raducanu on Saturday in a match carried over from Friday because of rain, but was forced to pull out with a shoulder injury. "Hopefully everyone can understand that with the big events coming up, I'm not in a position to be taking many risks," said Jones, with Wimbledon due to start on 1st July. British number one Boulter, 27, who is the defending champion, reached the semi-finals with a two-set win over Poland's fifth seed Magdalena Frech on Friday. Former US Open winner Raducanu, 21, missed the French Open to concentrate on her fitness before Wimbledon as she continues her comeback from injury. She has beaten Ena Shibahara and Daria Snigur in her run to the last eight in Nottingham. The start of Saturday's play was delayed because of bad weather but resumed at 2.30pm with the quarter-final between Tunisian top seed Ons Jabeur and the Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova first up on centre court. Raducanu and Boulter's semi-final will follow, while unseeded pair Diane Parry, from France, and Australia's Kimberly Birrell are contesting the final match of the last eight on court one. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/06/15/12/86156221-13533289-image-a-34_1718450376328.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/03/24/07/82826279-0-image-a-6_1711267052158.jpg

Emma Raducanu leads Katie Boulter as semi-final suspended..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/15/2020c284-e5b5-4a30-90bd-8a1f1d06871b.jpgEmma Raducanu will resume her gripping Nottingham Open semi-final against fellow Briton Katie Boulter with a one-set lead after play was suspended on Saturday night. The former US Open champion showed real grit and determination to win the opening set 7-6 after edging an epic tie-break 15-13. Raducanu, who slipped and fell awkwardly early in the tie-break, finally converted a sixth set point with a smash at the net before quickly calling on the umpire to stop play due to the conditions. British number one Boulter, 27, who had three set points of her own, agreed and faces a tough task now to defend her title. The pair will return on Sunday morning, with the victor facing the winner of the second semi-final between Czech Republic's Karolina Pliskova and French player Diane Parry. Earlier, 21-year-old Raducanu reached her first WTA semi-final since 2022 after her quarter-final opponent Fran Jones was forced to withdraw before the start of play because of a shoulder injury. Fellow Briton Jones, 23, and Raducanu were due to open Saturday's play on centre court. "Hopefully everyone can understand that with the big events coming up, I'm not in a position to be taking many risks," said Jones, with Wimbledon due to start on 1st July.

Wimbledon: Andy Murray out of singles but will play doubles.. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/26b6/live/6db93820-3857-11ef-a044-9d4367d5b599.jpgIt has been confirmed two-time champion Andy Murray will not be playing in the men's singles this year, although he is still set to play in the doubles with his brother Jamie. Andy Murray has decided not to play in the Wimbledon singles, instead making his farewell to the All England Club in the doubles alongside older brother Jamie. Murray, who is planning to retire later this year, had surgery 10 days ago on a back issue. The 37-year-old, who won Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016, was due to play Tomas Machac of the Czech Republic on Centre Court on Tuesday. "Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year," Murray's team said in a statement. "As you can imagine, he is extremely disappointed but has confirmed that he will be playing in the doubles with Jamie and looks forward to competing at Wimbledon for the last time." Former world number one Murray had a cyst close to his spinal cord removed on Saturday because it was causing nerve pain in his right leg. The Scot was giving himself as long as possible to be ready to play in what will be his Wimbledon farewell. ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/2/686fc2bf-8822-4df1-8142-68f65d656a1a.png

'Andy will be missed big time'..John Lloyd, Former GB Davis Cup Captain on BBC TV
It's something I wasn't hoping to hear, I saw Andy Murray practising out here a few days ago and he was moving OK. I thought there was a chance and I know he would want to do it as much as he could.
He would have loved to give the British fans another look at him. For him to play on here on Centre Court one more time would have been great. Hopefully, that will happen [playing doubles with his brother Jamie].
For Andy Murray, he's not going to go out on to the court unless he thinks he can win the match. He would have tried everything possible.
The courage that Murray had to win, you can't teach that. When someone has got the inner fire like he has, the will to win that he had, never gave it less than 100%.
He grew with the pressure that was on him by the British public and he knew what he had to do, he knew how to achieve it and he was single-minded with it. We're going to miss him big time.
The greatest athlete in my opinion in British sport ever. It's going to be very sad not to see him out here, I can't believe it to be honest.
Your Views
Anon: A sensible move from Andy to give him every chance to play with a doubles legend and his brother. A fitting send-off to an incredible career. He's called Sir Andy for a reason. His career spans so many incredible matches. He's fought through injury, mental blocks, and close calls and still wants to give his all. He's got a metal hip. Andy, you've won the nation's heart, and your legacy will live on for many years. We'll miss you in the singles but the crowds can't wait for the doubles. Petition for a statue at Wimbledon?

Roger Federer talking about Andy Murray and Euro 24..i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/01/11/86780957-0-image-a-30_1719829546001.jpgBritain's Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion and former world number one, has said he does not plan on "playing much beyond the summer". He and Federer met 25 times on the professional circuit, with Federer holding a 14-11 record. "I really don't think there are any words of advice that I can give him. Retirement is so deeply personal. When you take that decision, everybody is in a completely different circumstance. "We've gone through similar things but I'm too far away to give advice. If he called me up, I'd be happy to answer some questions. "He’s had this massive hip issue and what he is doing is inspirational. "I hope Andy, like Rafa and Novak, can keep playing forever, like a fan. The tour is better with them. "I was watching Roland Garros last week and I was like: 'Wow, they're so good - I used to do that too!' I feel so distant to my career. I start to forget the things I've done, the records. It’s more of a beautiful past on the road. "It’s been a great life and now having this distance is a great place to be in." "I'll be watching the Euros, Wimbledon and the Olympics. For a sports fan, this is the time to be alive. "The group [for the Euros] is good. I think we've had similar groups in the past for Switzerland - I'm happy now we've got Scotland, Hungary and Germany. "I'll have to tease Murray and he's actually better than me at that!"

Katie Boulter 6-4 1-6 6-7 (8-10) Harriet Dart..ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/4/5b28ef14-f473-463f-9a50-7a76ab764cd5.jpgBritish number two Harriet Dart speaking after beating British number one Katie Boulter: "I knew it was always going to be a really tough battle, we played a few weeks ago and it didn't go my way. I wear my emotions on my sleeve so you see everything how I'm thinking, unfortunately, but I'm so happy to be able to get through. Thank you so much for the support, it was so fab." On keeping belief: "My head-to-head is absolutely woeful against Katie Boulter so I wasn't expecting too much but at the same time I just tried my best out there and even though I was down in that tie-break I just thought give it everything, no regrets and I'm really pleased to be able to battle through." On how big this result is for her: "Massive. I haven't played on Court One since I played mixed doubles here a few years ago so it's so nice to get my first big win on a really big stadium court in front of a home crowd. It's absolutely surreal."

Andy Murray, speaking to Sue Barker about playing doubles with brother Jamie:"Yeah it was obviously really special. We never got the chance to do it before. There was a chance this year. "Jamie’s usual partner was playing with Neal Skupski so he asked me. "Obviously it was a bit of a race against time to try and get out here and physically it wasn’t easy today but I’m glad we were able to get out here and do this one time together." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/4/06eb6cd1-03ab-4d87-8f4e-b0eb8e491108.jpgMore from Andy Murray on winning Olympic gold:"Definitely to that point it was the biggest week of my life. "To turn that around after losing in the final of Wimbledon and then to come here and play, it was one of my favourite days I’ve ever had, certainly as an athlete. "To play in a home Olympic Games at Wimbledon, to beat Roger for once in a big match was nice and then I had a great run in the mixed doubles with Laura Robson as well so yeah, it was an amazing week for me." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/4/1c0b5f0d-70c6-4941-9691-1dd0d099874e.jpgAndy Murray on winning his first Wimbledon title in 2013:"I did find it pretty stressful to be honest with you. It wasn't easy but I obviously had an amazing team of people around me, supporting me through all of that. "The crowd support obviously made a huge difference. Playing at a home is obviously a huge advantage in al sports and I used it that day. "Novak [Djokovic] had an off day obviously. I just managed to get over the line. I didn't really actually enjoy it as much as I should've done. I just found the whole thing very, very stressful." Andy Murray on playing against Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer:"They were alright weren't they? "They weren't the easiest guys to get past. I was obviously incredibly fortunate to play in this time and I think all tennis fans have been incredibly lucky to witness what they've obviously gone on to achieve. "It's been incredible to watch what they've done. It's been incredible to be a part of some of the matches in major championships with them over the years. "I was fortunate to manage to get through them a couple of time in big moments but what a time to be on the tour." On winning Wimbledon in 2016:"2016 was really different. I felt way less pressure and the enjoyment I got out of that win was totally different to 2013. "I had an amazing evening that night with my all friends and family, properly went out and enjoyed it with the people closest to me. "Of my Slams, 2016 was my favourite one. "I don't remember much of that night. I had a few drinks and I did unfortunately vomit in the cab on the way home." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/4/0cd84c5b-8dec-4264-9d0b-23a3d3f1ac66.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/4/ffd57292-00de-4199-96ae-b389459fbacb.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/4/2dd10678-ccd1-4062-b4de-ebc6645aab7e.jpgOn winning the final game to take the Wimbledon title in 2013:"When I got off the court, I didn't remember any of what had happened but I have watched that game back a few times and some of the stuff he was coming up with on the match points was incredible. "If I had lost that game, it would have been very hard to go on to win. Amazing last game. "With my tennis, it's always been a bit of a struggle so that last game was always going to be a bit of a struggle." On returning to Wimbledon next year as a spectator:"I'm not never going to come back here! "It depends who I'm watching. I hate watching my brother. I find it really difficult to watch my brother play. I love tennis. I watch it all the time. "I would probably be more comfortable sitting up there in a coaching box rather than somewhere else." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/4/b4403b08-d01e-419d-8c98-4b9702100f14.jpgAndy Murray on his family:"Mum and dad have been amazing support, still today, but when we were little and allowing us to go and pursue our dreams. "Jamie left home to go to train when he was 12, then he moved to Paris. I left to go over to Spain. "I know now having children how, I don't even like them being away for a day so allowing us to go and train abroad and pursue our dreams, we couldn't have done that without their support so thank you mum and dad." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/7/4/8b6bbde4-f232-4f58-9b4c-04babf330f22.jpgAndy Murray on his wife Kim:"I better say something about my wife because otherwise I'll get in trouble if I don't, but this is probably going to be the hard part. "We met the first time when we were 18 years old. "Kim's dad is a tennis coach and we met over in New York and went out for dinner there at the US Open. "I choked a little bit the first time we went out. We walked her home to her hotel and I asked her for her email address. I don't think that's a normal thing to do. "She came along to actually watch me for the first time at the US Open. I actually vomited twice in that match. Once right in front of where she was sitting. I then stood up and vomited on my opponent's racquet bag and she still seemed to like me so I knew she was a keeper after that. "She's been an amazing, amazing support to me and to my whole family and is the best mum." Andy Murray on making the decision to retire:"It is hard because I would love to keep playing but I can't. Physically it's just too tough now. All of the injuries have added up and like I said they haven't been insignificant. "I want to play forever. I love this sport. It's given me so much, taught me loads of lessons over the years that I can use for the rest of my life. I don't want to stop so it is hard."

Wimbledon run has 'fuelled the fire' - Emma Raducanu..by Jonathan Jurejko, BBC Sport journalist at Wimbledon.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/07/21/87044581-13609727-image-a-1_1720384068446.jpgBritain's Emma Raducanu says an encouraging Wimbledon run has "fuelled the fire" to continue her upward trajectory over the rest of the season. Raducanu, 21, was beaten 6-2 5-7 6-2 by New Zealand qualifier Lulu Sun in the fourth round on Sunday. It was a disappointing exit after a series of dominant performances had heightened excitement at the All England Club. But, having reached the fourth round of a major for the first time since winning the 2021 US Open, Raducanu reflected positively on the past week. "I feel good about things going forwards. I feel optimistic," said Raducanu, who is set to move back inside the world's top 100 next week. "As bitter as it is to take, I think [this defeat] happened for a reason. "You don't want things to happen too easily and too quickly. I had that before. I don't necessarily want just a massive spike." Raducanu, who was given a wildcard for the All England Club, was outplayed for much of a fascinating contest. Having won six matches in a row on the SW19 grass, Sun oozed confidence and hit a flurry of winners. Raducanu wrestled back momentum by winning the second set but lost serve early in the decider shortly after needing treatment following a fall. The opening game of the third set was stopped and she received treatment - on her leg and back - while laid out on the court. Having missed last year's Wimbledon after having operations on both wrists and her ankle, she added: "Six months ago when I was starting out after surgery, I would have signed for the fourth round at Wimbledon. "Of course I'm disappointed. Of course I want more. "It fuels the fire and makes me more hungry."

Andy Murray's Wimbledon career over as Emma Raducanu pulls out of doubles..by Jonathan Jurejko, BBC Sport journalist at Wimbledon.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/07/07/21/87030087-13609727-Raducanu_right_felt_some_right_wrist_soreness_and_her_withdrawal-a-2_1720384078303.jpgAndy Murray's Wimbledon career is over after Emma Raducanu pulled out of their planned appearance in the mixed doubles. Former world number one Murray, 37, was due to play alongside his fellow Briton on Saturday evening at the All England Club. Raducanu, 21, said she has "some stiffness" in her right wrist. She moved into the fourth round of the women's singles with a dominant two-set win over Greek ninth seed Maria Sakkari on Friday. "I have decided to make the very tough decision to withdraw from the mixed doubles," she said. "I’m disappointed as I was really looking forward to playing with Andy but I've got to take care."
