Seen highlights. Awful goals conceded. Anssi made a couple of good saves. I suppose we'll never know if that one Oldham shot actually crossed the goal line. Yeah, Just seen the highlights too Oldham played some good stuff, Anssi saved us from a much more heavy defeat. Lose to 2nd bottom and win against top 5 Mansfield who are on a 10-game unbeaten league run. It's just how we like to do it, expected to beat lower and no pressure v higher - typical Gas.

Meat and potato. Very nice. That's good then. Well, absolutely. Made the whole day worthwhile.

Yes, we will never know, twas like Frank Lampard’s v Germany, ye know it was a goal all the way. Definite goal then? Yes it was a goal, the ball was at a steep angle into the back of the net after hitting the underside of crossbar, must have spun upon hitting the ground (at least a yard over the line) before bouncing against a post and back out.

Well that was poor. It looked as if the team thought it would be as easy as some on here! They didn’t look prepared to be hassled against a team fighting for their league place. Backwards and sideways all night. Coutts under pressure all night, never had an easy out. I’ve always supported Harries but tonight he was poor, wasn’t switched on for their opening goal and let the pass go by him. Connolly was ok and EAnderson looked good but in the end he was going backwards as well but he was responsible for 2 of our best moves and he looked good. No Loft, no Clark so why was Pitman sent out on loan? We had no option to change things and in those last 10 minutes the ball was going into the box begging for a Pitman-style poacher. At least with him we may have got a point. But tbh, our defence looked too vulnerable all evening and will need to improve if we are going to move up the table. But... Fair play to Oldham, they had worked us out. Pressed us, attacked the right hand side and we were under pressure all night. Didn’t give us any time and then waste as much time as possible to break up any momentum we got. They packed the defence once they had something to hold on to. They could have got 2/3 more goals if not for Anssi. Not one of JBs best nights, was tactically out-thought by Sheridan who set Oldham up perfectly to deal with us. We move on to Saturday.

Agree Wareham. Obviously, it’s not Collins’s game to play the big target man role, so the long ball option wasn’t really a goer. The only other way to create would be to use the wingers to beat players, or pass through the midfield with tempo, which needs players with a good touch, and comfortable on the ball. Unfortunately, Finley, who is a key player, didn’t look right, and Coutts, who was very good at Sutton, looked slow and leggy, but I think he may have played more games than most of the midfielders recently. He seems prone to giving possession away in dangerous areas, at least once a match, for all his often good work. Barton certainly played enough attacking players, but I’m struggling to remember anything about the Oldham goalkeeper, can’t recall him making any particular saves. At Sutton we were at least able to keep the ball, but last night, Oldham covered, and tackled quickly, aided by Rovers sloppiness. The long ball, not for the first time this season, caused Rovers defence more problems than it should do, not sure how often last nights defenders would have played together. Without Taylor, Rovers looked in trouble in the air throughout the game, and if he is missing alarm bells ring. That happened in either the Tranmere, or Rochdale, home game, when he went off at half time, and a 2-0 lead was lost. If the “heart” issue has caused him to be withdrawn twice now, as suggested by Barton, it is even more surprising that another central defender was not recruited recently as cover, especially as it seems Kilgour is still struggling for fitness. I am not a Harries fan, for me, he has been a disaster area too often, although at the start of the last relegation season, he did look the part early on.

Its perhaps worth remembering that in the Trollope promotion season, the team lost to Wrexham, who were also second from bottom. They then went on a long unbeaten run that pushed them into the play-offs and eventually League One.
I just don't see this side doing the same. Too many poor/mediocre players. Harries or Elliot? Campbell or Finley? Lambert or Loft? How many of the current side would actually get into the Trollope team?
Last night demonstrated that this is a mid-table L2 side with a few games in hand.

I did say we have been riding our luck and we should have lost that by more. We just haven’t got a worthy defence and have been lucky to score a few. We will get a tanking soon if this carries on as luck balances out. JB has failed to address and shore up the defence Did think of your mention KP, after the first min of play! I did and i was going to predict loss but then I know i would have the usual suspects give me the treatment. Fact is our performances haven’t been good and the posts and GK have kept us looking better than we are. We simply give the ball away too often and our defence is awful. I did say i think things will look different after March. I do not revel in this but just say it as i see it. I’ve watched on TV and i do not see a good team, other disagree. That is how it is

There's not much wrong with the squad. As said many times, 3 at the back is risky, harries is one of the worse defenders I've ever seen, and the front diamond doesn't always work, need a foil for Leon. 4 4 2.

I actually wrote the underlined comment of beating higher up teams & poor v lower, typical Gas, not the top 7 or in the top 10 what you wrote. Cheltenham (EFL) won 2-0, Harrogate won 0-1, Northampton won 2-1, Oxford (FA Cup) won 4-3 aet, Sutton (FA Cup) won 2-1, Hartlepool won 2-0, all of these teams were in a higher position in the league than us a the time of the game or in the cups a higher division. Also credible draws v Barrow 1-1, Bradford 2-2, Oxford 2-2, Tranmere 2-2, Swindon 1-1 & Sutton 1-1 were all higher up than we were at the time.

I was on iFollow, wasn’t at all impressed by Oldham, too many nothing long balls by Oldham. Very little actual football or pressure from Oldham. We lost because we gave them too many unforced errors. I think we actually demonstrated we are far better than Oldham in the two main stats, physicality, where we owned them all night, and getting ball down and keeping possession. But for all that possession we could not find the chance creating key passes.

2 recently examples of the impact of subs.
1) Walsall: Saunders (sub) made a brave challenge and the ball fell to Collins to score the winning goal
2) Scunthorpe: Clarke scored the second goal in our win.
