ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/515A/production/_131562802_sergioperez.jpg Home hero Perez crashed at the first cornerRed Bull's Max Verstappen took a dominant victory in the Mexico City Grand Prix to break his own record for wins in a single Formula 1 season. Set up by passing the front-row Ferraris at the start, Verstappen's victory was his 16th in 2023 in what is becoming one of the most dominant seasons in history. Verstappen had to negotiate a safety car and a red flag but was untroubled once into the lead at Turn One. Lewis Hamilton moved up from sixth on the grid in his Mercedes to beat Ferrari's Charles Leclerc in a battle for the remaining podium positions. Behind them, Carlos Sainz fended off George Russell to win another Ferrari-Mercedes battle over fourth place, before Lando Norris passed his fellow Briton for fifth with four laps to go. It was a lovely move, set up by a cut back through Turns Four and Five, and befitting the climax to a starring drive from 19th on the grid, and 14th at the restart following a red flag at half distance. Seventh place for Daniel Ricciardo, not quite able to pass the fading Russell on the last lap, was a drop from his remarkable fourth place on the grid but still a strong result for the Alpha Tauri driver in only his second race since returning from an absence caused by a broken hand. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/480/cpsprodpb/13002/production/_131562877_verstappen.jpg

British Grand Prix: New Silverstone Formula 1 deal announced until 2034..By Andrew Benson, Chief F1 writer. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/08/13/81015927-13061207-image-a-15_1707398256134.jpgThe British Grand Prix will continue at Silverstone until at least 2034 after the historic track signed a new 10-year deal with Formula 1. The move marks a period of enhanced stability for the UK's place on the F1 calendar after years of uncertainty. F1 president and chief executive Stefano Domenicali said Silverstone "is an iconic venue" which is "at the heart of F1 history". Silverstone staged the first F1 world championship race in 1950. "It continues to attract fans from around the world for fantastic racing on track and the amazing fan experience off it," Domenicali said. The deal was first announced in a social media video with British F1 drivers George Russell and Lando Norris. Silverstone is owned by the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) and bills itself as the home of British motorsport. From 1955-1986 it shared Britain's round of the championship with first Aintree and then Brands Hatch. It has hosted the race every year since 1987, and even held two grands prix in one year at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Silverstone was one of the first grands prix to diversify its offering to fans by staging music concerts and other entertainment over the course of the weekend. This approach is at the heart of F1 owner Liberty Media's plan to grow the sport by broadening its appeal. Last year's race, won by Max Verstappen, drew a record crowd of 480,000 fans across the weekend - the largest combined attendance for any track during the 2023 season. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/07/09/16/73017647-12280253-image-m-50_1688918312961.jpgLiberty's desire to expand the calendar, and to introduce new races that are close to major population centres, has put pressure on many traditional and historic races, no matter their status in the sport. The longevity of Belgium's classic Spa-Francorchamps track, for example, is uncertain because of a number of concerns over modernisation, including access. Silverstone's last contract, signed in 2019, was for five years, and came at the 11th hour after the track said it could no longer afford the fee for the race. The circuit's new contract removes it from those concerns for the time being. Silverstone chief executive Stuart Pringle said: "This long-term commitment reflects the importance of the British Grand Prix to Formula 1 and their acknowledgement of our ability to deliver a world-class experience for the British fans, who are among the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable in the world. "The cheers of support for the home teams, and particularly for the British drivers on the grid, makes the Silverstone atmosphere unique and I am looking forward to harnessing this passion for our sport and taking the event to the next level in the coming decade." Silverstone has been modernising in recent years, including the opening of a museum and hotel on site. The BRDC has pledged to further upgrade facilities at the track during the course of the new contract. Peter Digby, chairman of the BRDC, said: "This contractual security will provide a solid base for the further development of the venue as we continue to improve and transform the circuit into a year-round international motorsport and leisure destination." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2023/07/09/16/73017481-12280253-image-a-46_1688917674578.jpg

What’s Horner been upto , I’ve read the rumours , but surely even he’s not that daft Geri Halliwell's husband Christian Horner faces allegations of 'incredibly controlling behaviour' by female colleague..By Andrew Benson, Chief F1 writer.i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/02/06/01/80871657-13046913-image-m-50_1707181238063.jpgThe future of the Red Bull Formula 1 team is in the spotlight as their boss Christian Horner faces an internal hearing on Friday into a complaint of inappropriate behaviour. The 50-year-old, who has led Red Bull Racing since its founding in 2005, will be quizzed by an independent lawyer on the complaint. Parent company Red Bull Gmbh, based near Salzburg in Austria, said on Monday that it is taking the allegations against Horner "extremely seriously". The team has not confirmed the nature of the complaint made against Horner but BBC Sport understands the claims relate to an allegation of inappropriate and controlling behaviour. Horner has denied the allegations in a comment to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, external as well as inside an F1 Commission meeting of team bosses, governing body the FIA and commercial rights holders F1 earlier this week. Horner's future has been the subject of intense speculation in the world of F1 in the days since the allegations emerged on Monday. Many insiders who have discussed the situation with BBC Sport do not expect him to survive in his role. However, Horner is a powerful and influential man, both inside Red Bull and within F1, and it remains to be seen whether this will lead to his downfall. Whichever way the hearing goes today Friday (9.02.24) major questions now revolve around Red Bull.

"No doubt it’s going to be a difficult race. I thought I was prepared for F1 until I got to this track, which is the most difficult one so it’s a baptism of fire." What have the team said for advice?"I think the main thing is just to take it step by step. Build on the performance of yesterday. Anyway, sleeping on a track normally helps me to understand everything better. "So waking up the next day I think I am going to be able to execute things slightly cleaner. Hopefully we’re going to have a good race. What would leave you satisfied?"Of course I would be satisfied to finish in the points. But I’m not looking on results. "I’m more focused on my own performance. I would be happy if I kept my nose clean, had a clean race and kept building my knowledge and experience because it’s quite rare that people get this opportunity to do an F1 race so I want to take it with both hands and show what I can do." Have you spoken to Carlos Sainz?"Yes he sent me a message very kindly, saying that he was going to help me if I had any doubts. "And of course I sent him my best wishes and he’s recovering well." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/3/9/6039109e-abd3-4546-9aa7-7569032c775c.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/3/9/04337e09-782e-4795-8818-7ed7747847d4.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/3/9/2b2b983e-0af9-4bbd-b44b-57a62f395225.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/3/9/f39037c3-478f-4415-af37-b12b8de20114.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/3/9/6d93f203-5a5c-4961-a676-c0a022f705a4.jpgOliver Bearman was speaking to Sky Sports, after finishing seventh in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: "A little tired. As you can see, I don’t look my best. It was a fantastic race, pushing all the way, I was shocked at how fast we were pushing, getting quicker every lap. "That was incredible, especially at the end when I had the two guys on softs bearing down on me, I couldn’t relax. I was always in my mirrors pushing flat out but it was a really exciting and fun race." How did it feel in those final laps? "The countdown seemed like it was going slower than normal. I think we managed it really well. They weren’t really catching behind and I felt like I had a bit in hand in case I needed it. I did my fastest lap on the last one. "I was building through the race coming to the end of the hard stint and when I knew what the car could do beneath me, I felt like I could really push. "Magnussen was using his experience to keep me behind and there’s a bit more to it in F1 to overtake than in F2 but once I got past him I was able to show my pace. "It’s just really difficult to follow especially for me - I’d never followed before and coming so close to the walls and one second behind the guy in front, it’s difficult." ichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/3/9/fd883ea6-8bc8-45a9-b9c4-7f0bc3ced246.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/live-experience/cps/624/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/3/9/ce82fdbd-4910-4498-8b44-a93b02d6af96.jpg

The team have worked so hard, they’ve made so many strides since the start of the season. The last two races have been incredible so more to come.” On his second Grand Prix victory: “Absolutely, it’s no secret with Red Bull and Max, and McLaren with Lando are still a little bit out in front. But we are always putting ourselves in that third place position in the last couple of races. If anything happens up front, we will then pick it up. What an exciting time for us.” On next weekend's British Grand Prix: “We are riding a bit of a wave at the moment, these last three races have been incredible. I think realistically we probably could have won the race in Canada but this makes up for one too many mistakes on my side." ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/800/cpsprodpb/vivo/live/images/2024/6/30/98761b6d-91b1-4f59-be09-5d9dfb32b130.jpg

Dominant Lando Norris fights back to win Dutch GP..by Jonathan McEvoy.ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/1024/cpsprodpb/3f25/live/45b77050-62e4-11ef-8c32-f3c2bc7494c6.jpgLando Norris bungled the start but won the Dutch Grand Prix in a paroxysm of relief and redemption. And instantly a world championship fight that many had consigned to the dustbin of history is alive and kicking. The orange car possessed all the firepower required to gatecrash the world championship party. Beating Verstappen was the only game by the seaside. With his upgraded McLaren, Norris need not have fretted. He was closing in on Verstappen to within DRS range. ‘The pace is good,’ Norris asserted. And so his chance arrived at the beginning of lap 18 of 72. With the help of slipstream and then DRS, he put himself on the tail of his prey. He then swept out to the right and swung through the first corner – Tarzan – on the inside of its banked slope. Verstappen clung to him for a few minutes, but he convinced nobody, including himself, that he could repass his pal. ‘I can’t go any faster,’ he complained. ‘The car doesn’t respond to my input.’ Within six laps of taking the lead, Norris was four seconds clear. Three laps later, when Verstappen stopped, the margin stood at 6.3sec. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/25/15/88912559-13777899-image-a-26_1724597668296.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/25/15/88912555-13777899-image-a-29_1724597691510.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/25/15/88912369-13777899-image-a-21_1724597128071.jpgAs for Norris, he needed this fillip. He should have won multiple times since taking his maiden victory in Miami, 112 days before. Silly mistakes undermined his progress at crucial times. So even if he claimed he was ‘not desperate’ to win in Zandvoort, it was hard to believe he did not see this weekend for what it was: make or break. Won’t they all be from now on? He needs another win in Monza on Sunday to keep his right foot tight on Verstappen’s larynx. Norris secured victory without the assistance of team-mate Oscar Piastri. The Australian, half-a-second back in qualifying, was passed for third place at the start by Mercedes’ George Russell, and ended the blustery afternoon in fourth place, with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the last of the podium steps by then. Russell was classified seventh and Lewis Hamilton eighth, not the best return for the Silver Arrows. They are on the right course, but zigzagging their way to the destination. As for Norris, he signed off with the fastest lap, nicking it from Hamilton, to earn an extra point. One that might yet make all the difference in the final analysis. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/25/18/88915897-13777899-image-a-1_1724608045221.jpgi.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/08/24/15/88889019-13776063-image-a-8_1724508982200.jpg
