Plymouth is not a derby either. There is only one derby and that has not been contested for far too long. Swindon is a derby. Same as Newport, Cardiff, Cheltenham, FGR. More so than Plymouth and Exeter. What you've described there look to me like "local derbies". Seems to me everyone has forgotten what "derby" means and think it's just a local game. The term "Derby" comes from the horse race, which was a big day out for Londoners down to Epsom. It then transferred to general use to describe any popular well-attended event. I would say examples would be... Derby = Man Utd v Leeds Utd; perhaps Brighton v Crystal Palace; Bath v Leicester (rugby union). Local Derby = Rovers v City; Man Utd v Man City; Newcastle v Sunderland etc.

All in all a bit disappointing. I think we were about 10 minutes away from getting shot of our rather unpleasant manager. Oh well, let's hope Swindon can help him on his way. I understand completely feelings towards JB, not too different from mine. But for clarity, do you really want Swindon to beat BRFC? UTG!

Just got back..
Paved paradise and put up a parking lot... We have so missed an away day like that!? A classic fall and rise.....
Okies.... apart from the shenanigans that always makes an away day special, this one had meaningful consequences. I truly believe JAB has been given a results countdown by WAQ, so while we can all get carried away in the moment it is only 3 points, it is only (no disrespect) v Walsall, it is with a huge elements of luck, and I've no doubt it is partly because of our (the away fan) influence.. It's something to build on, but it's not good enough for the so say talent and money spent in the building, and much more is needed to restore some faith, let alone more faith...
JAB out of it, his teams seem to have a fight (pardon the pun) about them. We showed little of that last season.
I haven't read this thread so shooting blind from what I saw:
As much as can hail praise on the goalscorers, just as much praise should go down to Belshaw. He made 2, 1 on 1 saves, again put no foot wrong, and if you ask most Gas they couldn't remember anything apart from that. His positioning was exemplary. He organised defence and walls immaculately, he distribution was competent.....he is much what we need for stability and a key player to inspire confidence in an ever changing, unsettled defence.
Harries. For me, unsung hero yesterday. Made one match winning challenge in with Belshaw, has a rifled shot off target and was the last man back when we were attacking. I like him. He does the simple things effectively, although some of his passes in other matches have gone astray, yesterday he was effective. He took one for the team high up pitch when carelessness lost possession and matey was through.
Connor Taylor m o m (not just because his family was there to celebrate, what a lovely bunch they were.....big shout out to his sis (š)) with composure and maturity beyond his years, apart from his booking, needs to watch his discipline sometimes with needless fouls.....a bit like Steve Yates, you'll never beat CT....and took his goal well. I like he celebrates with the fans as if one of us.....but so did Spence. Both goals due to lack of concentration in defence from Walsall at key moments.
Evans. Still trying to work out why he gets his game? Contributed little. Made runs with the ball and passed back...? Crossing, poor.
Alfie. Unlucky with the goal conceded. Just couldn't get challenge in because of the bounce of the ball, and when their scorer was through it was only because of a lucky nutmeg of (Anderson?) on right. I'm still not convinced right of a 3 is his best position, but he certainly can't play left side and CT has played himself into the starting lineup. A tough, steady game, shame his header from free kick second half he took off the head of Taylor whom was poised to take a good chance.
Junior Brown. At the moment, super sub as his corners inswinging posed major problems for defences. I like his inclusion, but not sure if we can start?
Pitman. A lot of criticism around me he doesn't put the effort in. To me, he's essential. Whom crossed the ball back for the winner? So, what I see is little interaction (although his holding off of players at corners is a dark art magnificence) but when that ball is there for heading (at Hartlepool) or crossing (yesterday) or penalty shooting (Leyton Orient), he's potentially devastating. Don't expect the hard miles, but much like akinfenwa, one chance one goal.....a valuable contribution.
Over 1000 Gas got what we deserved. Over all it was a fair result, how many times do you see a home team with 0 corners? We worked hard, we huffed and puffed. We earned that result with help from us a singing contingent that never gave up (yes there were some individual boos before we scored). I still think we play mostly with low tempo in attack, and defend too deeply, but what do I know because it worked yesterday!?
JAB still has a lot of work to do, well done for this victory.
Ps footnote...... Finley. His reaction on final whistle bring tears to eyes..... kissing the badge going mental and in unison with us. I've never doubted his or most the teams attitude, Finley tries his best, I see him as an open footballer expressing himself in the moment if he thinks things went well it not..... he's not a GasHead like you or me, but plays like he cares about his craft and I've no doubt he was captain partly because of his infectious attitude....so, having said all that, I hope the complete cnut f*wit last week that threw the bottle at him post match when he was with his family knows that not just what he done was wrong, very wrong, but why he done it was just as wrong too. Complete a$$hole. Fins tried his best yesterday, and that should help unite the fanbase, not serve to divide it..... hope you get what you deserve total sh!ster...

Sorry, it's an okay article, but the author seems to think that a 'derby' only relates to a local match. " A football āderbyā is a match between two nearby teams with a long-standing rivalry." Yes, 'two nearby teams with a long-standing rivalry' does describe a 'derby', and in particular a 'local derby'; however, two teams that aren't nearby can still be a 'derby'.

And I still quite like Ben Garner. It's very strange tho I get that but when it comes to a match do you really want another club to beat us? Iām well aware that other posters share the feeling btw. I just canāt do that. Perhaps if we were still in League 1 I could but not in League 2. This is the last league you want to be messing about in. A bad run and in-fighting can have many unintended consequences which Iām sure I donāt need to spell out. But my question still stands. Do TWD and now yourself want Swindon to beat BRFC? Itās a very simple yes / no answer. I appreciate you may not want to answer it. But that in itself.... UTG!

Then Joeybag leaves on a free. Replacement comes in, adds some sparkle, and we challenge... Now that is something I can sign up to. And whilst weāll never know I think it is the option WAQ may be waiting for. For obvious financial reasons. But there again WAQ perhaps does not have our reservations about JB and sees everything in terms of football. (Though since February in football terms JBs reputation must have fallen off a cliff). As ever time will tell. UTG!

But the one thing I am binary about is that I want BRFC to win every single match. Itās very simple. Thank you for your reply, I didnāt mean to put you on the spot. As to JB, weāve had other managers I didnāt like. He will move on and it will pass and it will be important that BRFC are still a league club. Mess about in this league and we might not be. UTG!

The longer Barton is here the longer my club are branded as a pariah club by the football community in general. Feel free to argue this point, and I'll direct you back to those threads on our own forums when Fleetwood appointed him, and the comments section on the BBC website the day our relegation was confirmed. Joey Barton's Bristol Rovers. It makes my skin crawl. I want him gone. Then I want a video apology from Wael from for bringing him here, one which addresses the actual point, he's a disgusting person who thinks that his crimes that got him sent to prison are a suitable topic for attempted humour, and the appointment has put the reputation of the club that I've supported far longer than Wael has been alive firmly in the gutter. Defeat to Swindon is incidental in the scheme of things. Edit. And here we are again, national news page banging on about Barton's Bristol Rovers; www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/58683350

As Iāve said, itās not too different from mine. I am aware of online opinions but not sure I agree with your opinion about being a āpariah clubā but certainly fans donāt like him for all the reasons that have been talked about on here. And of course thereās plenty of hypocrisy from our fans, itās a football forum so Iām not surprised at that. As for the last BBC report youāve provided, yes I read that. But itās a report from a club near the bottom of Division 4, donāt think it mentions āBartonās Bristol Roversā just ā...manager Joey Barton.ā It doesnāt make us out to be a pariah club, just a club in a mess. Heās not a great manager so far is he? Iām sure heāll be gone soon enough. Whether youāll get a video apology from WAQ is a different matter I think. I doubt youāll get it, the most youāll get will be a letter outlining the general situation and that he continues to back us. If as ampg has suggested that the court cases might be crucial we may get a bit more from WAQ about the reasons. But I doubt youāll get an apology as such. Weāll see. UTG!

The point about that BBC story was we are now seen as Barton's Bristol Rovers, but I'm sure you 'got' that. No apology from Wael and I'm not returning. He has to get it into his head what he's done to my club. We used to be able to point at 1982 and ask if they were completely sure that their neighbours wouldn't have broken in and stolen their carpets whilst they were at the game, now we have no right whatsoever to pretend to hold any moral authority over the stadium arsonists.

TWD, yes, Iāve seen us described like that elsewhere. I try to ignore it as flim/flam and the mediaās obsession with celebrity rather than news or reporting. Manchester City, Derby even us get that treatment. Of course itās annoying esp when itās a character like JB with whom you get associated. Unfortunately I donāt think WAQ sees it in the same terms as we do and Iām afraid thereās little I can do about it.
And of course what happened back in 1982 to those businesses and individuals who were linked with BCFC left a trail of devastation from which many did not recover. Which enabled us and others to claim some moral authority over them. But I guess I gave up some time ago trying to link āfootballā to any links with morals or ethics. It just doesnāt seem to behave in a similar way to any other area of human activity. Itās a game that depends upon loyalty, sometimes blind, passion and people who seem to justify everything that happens on a field during a match as reasonable. I wouldnāt have put up with some of the behaviours in a normal day at work that I see on a football field, yet it happens. Hence I try not to use it for anything other than a game which is important but not overly so. An hour or soās entertainment on a Saturday afternoon. (Or not!)
Good luck with your wait for an apology. I donāt think youāll get one but as ever time will tell.
UTG!

Great report o2. I don't like badge kissers though, they have a habit of turning out to be fakes. Fair comment as intend to agree. The context I was trying to convey is: the win means as much as the defeat with open and honest players playing with their heart on their sleeve. I think as much as you might be graceful or talented, most Rovers fans attribute effort above attainment, and Finley got carried away in the moment..... probably inspired by his unfortunate experiences last week (?) No proof, just my 2+2= 5 prognosis...

Does some part of you cheer when we concede goals? ... And conversely, grieve when we score? Some part of me is incapable of wanting to share a positive emotion with Barton, that's for sure. Right now it isn't 'we' though. It's just a 'thing' that Wael has turned my club in to. But my best guess is that he'll run out of money long before I pop my clogs, so I'm not giving up on my club just yet.

Interesting little ditty yesterday....I get up to Birmingham New Street and all ticket checking was left open, and outside the rail station Pride festival is in full swing.....many, many people there from all walks of life.....Pride in Bristol circa 2005 was a whole different affair and vibe.....these days, I saw it with my own eyes, rail staff, cleaners, even families with toddler kids (4-6 year olds, what the hell would they know about sexualities?) sprout the rainbow š insignia on their faces or appendage of choice.....hmmmmmm, makes you think perhaps?.....just sayin.
