Fantastic result! It's good to be smiling after a football result again :-)
A performance and result like that was coming. We have played well over the last few games. Need to build some momentum.
Shame the players did not get a loud standing ovation after that game, they certainly deserved it!

This scoreline is no fluke. We are getting stronger and stronger under Joey Barton. It’s coming, ladies and Gentlemen. The six pointer week that makes staying up mathematically easy. Jonah excellent out there. I noticed you've seen it coming Emporor SB. Fair play.

What are these commentators on about, the keeper although he's crap, clearly punched the ball clear. Yeah, I think they get a few things wrong as they're sitting in the East Stand, so opposite the view we get on camera. They've named the wrong players at times, when the action is close to the West Stand. I have heard them try to remember to say things to make it sound like their view is the same as those watching on I-Follow. They ought to have a tablet or laptop with them, so they can see the replays of key incidents.

I'm glad to hear Kieth has started to be very careful about 'singing Rovers praises' now.It seemed to me,all too often he would say eg,'Rovers look very much in control and I can't see them conceding'.You know what happened next. Now if he gets excited he tends to caveat his confidence with eg'but there's along way to go' or something to remind us it's a two horse race.

Hard to pick out a MOM, Alex R probably pushed by Upson, but so many good performances. I love McCs hassle in midfield. Even if we were sometimes outnumbered in midfield he never let Accrington settle. Ayunga very good and deserved a goal. Both CHs were good and won nearly all their headers and defended well. The build up to all of the goals was good, No luck about that tonight, very classy and goals 2,3 and 4 were great strikes. One thing, does Day have a problem at his near post on his right shoulder? Against Rochdale and tonight we gave away goals and on his left shoulder against Crewe (?). Perhaps a bit picky after a great win but it could be crucial in a tight match.
If we play like that and keep our consistency going we’ll be ok. I don’t really care about how others are doing, it’s all about us. We play well, we’ll be ok. The time to worry about the others will be when we come to the last 2/3/4 matches. Then what they do is important, until then it’s about us. We are now seeing more consistency in our performances and I make that 7 matches (TW and JB) when the performance has been ok. In some we gave away poor goals through individual errors which stopped getting what we deserved but keep that up and we’ll be ok. Well done JB and the team. UTG!

I'm not getting carried away until they put a string of wins together. They've performed well more than once this season only to lapse into a slog in a bog the next couple of games. There's been no consistency at all. Wimbledon's form doesn't look that great but our form against teams like that is poor. I'll applaud when I see a relentless streak. Good to see Ayunga coming out of his shell more and more and rewarding the faith that's been shown in him. It can't be easy to jump three divisions like that.

Re the pen. From the camera side did not look like a pen. From East Side there was a call for a pen, and that is where the commentary team are. Still we are lucky, no VAR, as would have been countless angles, slow motion replays to determine if pen or not. When will ball tracker be added to VAR?
Ref gave odd decisions both ways I thought. How was Baldwin was not booked for his assault on a player?

Did he use his near hand to punch it to the far hand side, or the far hand to punch it to the near hand side, or other please? I know it shouldn't matter but it is bloody irritating. I could cope with the late Colin Howlett, "It gave the keeper no chance at all."

Well, well, well! To answer the thread title, yes.
But.....holy moly, Coley.... that was a defensive performance to forget! Accy ponderous on the ball, many many unforced errors, loss of possession and lack of organisation.... yet they still had decent goalkeeper and McConville came back to haunt us with his assist..
Obvious credit for Ayunga (my m o m), Rodders, Nicholson, Westy, McCormick....but if you watch Rodders sublime finish, it was Upson that won the ball and provided the assist! A team performance to be proud of. The passing and movement, at one time with a couple of nutmegs throw in made it an easy on the eye performance from the supporting 4 to Jonah.
Day made one spectacular save, but I thought he could have done better with the goal. Generally competent night.
I'm not a fan of a front 3, much prefer a 2, but JA done as good a job leading the line as anyone could without scoring. He was unlucky not to. What an amazing shimmy to set himself up to hit post, but also a nice dummy or two. A huge influence up front and best game so far.
Alfie almost scored with an opportunistic toe poke and his partnership with Baldwin was secure.
Special mention to Leahy. Captain and another open play goal from sheer endeavour.... it's not a coincidence we play better when he's a captain. Unsung hero this season... he's made mistakes, but hopefully learnt from them. Good solid performance from him
Ok, JAB for it right, so credit for that. His pre match amble about fitness and concentration seemed to betray his starting line up...is he playing mind games with opposition?
He got his selections spot on and coped with wind better. Encouraging signs and even though it's 2/5 or 40% win rate, we looked as if we can do better.
A quick comment on post match interview where I thought he ran out of words and resorted to cliché at the end...fair enough evaluation... I'm hoping his joke and prison goes some ways, not alot, but some ways to helping others warm to him. Just taking JAB on what he says and how his selections and team delivers, some of it makes sense. I can see why his football talk endears itself to some of the fanbase.
Well done him and his team for a great performance and desperately needed result. More of the same for remainder of season, please...

More of the same for remainder of season, please... Very good summary. Out of interest, why do you prefer a front 2 to 3? I'm old fashioned. My thinking forming partnerships across the team, especially in the spine is most efficient. Most efficient for workload and pressure. Also, we've tried a 3 up front in the TN era where he just wasn't dropped, and under DC GC BG PT hasn't worked regularly - it might, intermittently- just not as a staple. I remember JCH injury and Tyler Smith partnered TN up front at Ipswich.... perhaps because no one was expecting, we won. Quite easily. Both scored. It's not set in stone, but a 3 up front flourished because of the Nicholson, Rodders, Westbrooke and Upson huge running, energy and support....Jonah definitely ran amok and helped greatly, but when he scored v Pompey he was effective.....BH actually assisted his second with flicked header..... that's great to see, a front two linking up.

This performance and vital 3 points deserves a longer thread doesn’t it?
It’s been coming. We can’t keep saying salop didn’t look like much, hull so rubbish they will be right back down, accies error prone without giving ourselves some credit.
No team can go a whole game without opponents having some moments, but by and large last 7 games we have looked a bit tighter and miserly that end. Joey has kept plenty creative flair players in, they seem to be partnering each other better now, movement and closer to each other. It’s beginning to look we have more players out there than opponents on pitch
Provided we take at least a point off wombles , and don’t lose this form from of last 7 games, should get out of trouble. Correct me where I’m wrong, 3 points off dons and it’s 12 points from 12 games and get to 48? Should take at least the 12 from last 12 matches

I've not listened to Radio Bristol since the Gas Cast boys have taken over i-Follow commentary. At the moment I'm taking advantage of the season-ticket for home games, but haven't purchased an away game for a while, and actually not even bothered to listen to away games on the radio. Been nice to have a break away from it all! Been able to get a few things done around the house. I'll be back listening soon though.

The near post thing was pointed out to me a while back, then sure enough it happened the next game. May well have been the Rochdale game you mentioned - I did write about it on a match-day thread at the time. Seems to me it's either near post. Last night it was: - Right hand post for the goal, and I've no idea how it went in - you should never be beaten from that angle. Just as well we were well clear at the time. - Left hand post in the first half, but fortunately the post saved us. A goal at that point could have altered the game. This near post thing then, what is it? Perhaps it's because the ball is so close and you can't your hands down to it in time? In those sorts of situation I wonder if it's not better to just block it with your legs. It's like a penalty where the ball goes under the body, but if the 'keeper had stood still they could have kicked it away.

Yes he should use his legs and save it whatever he does. Being an ex keeper myself I do watch keepers closer than other players which can make me a bit too critical perhaps. It’s pretty clear that keeper coaches do teach how to save 1 on 1s but where keepers have to get down quickly to a shot near to their bodies they do seem more vulnerable. Day is a tall guy so perhaps those shots closer to him, low down do cause him a problem. Last night it didn’t affect us but on another occasion it might. UTG!
