Conor Benn v Chris Eubank Jr fight postponed.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/1197B/production/_126995027_p0d4bh6m.jpgThe fight between Conor Benn and Chris Eubank Jr, due to take place in London on Saturday, has been postponed. It comes after Benn, 26, returned what promoters said was an "adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug". The British Boxing Board of Control had said the bout was "prohibited and not in the interests of boxing". Promoter Matchroom confirmed on Thursday that the fight had been postponed. Nuff said.

Conor Benn is 'clean' despite failed drug test, says dad Nigel.Nigel Benn says his son Conor is "clean" and that his team "will get to the bottom" of the failed drug test that has led to the postponement of Saturday's fight with Chris Eubank Jr. The bout was called off on Thursday after Benn, 26, returned trace amounts of fertility drug clomifene during a test. "He's a faithful trainer and he's a clean athlete," former two-weight world champion Nigel, 58, said of his son. "He leaves no stone unturned." The British Boxing Board of Control "prohibited" the fight on Wednesday when news of Benn's failed test broke but the welterweight's father has maintained his son's innocence. "We're in total shock - I've been with my son for the last 10 weeks and the training has just gone absolutely the best it could ever have been," said Benn senior in an Instagram post. "I love my son. I know he don't cut corners, he just goes straight at it 100%." The bout - attempting to replicate the storied 1990s Benn-Eubank rivalry between fathers Nigel and Chris - had sold out the O2 Arena in London. Benn and Eubank were scheduled to meet at a catchweight of 157lbs, 30 years after their fathers fought - Eubank senior winning their first bout in 1990 before a rematch three years later ended in a draw. However, Benn returned an "adverse analytical finding" for clomifene in August, following a test taken by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada). Clomifene can be used to boost testosterone levels in men and is banned inside and outside competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada). Eubank Jr's promoter Kalle Sauerland confirmed his camp knew of the failed test several weeks ago but were still happy to go ahead with the fight. Benn Junior, meanwhile, has said he is hopeful the bout can be rearranged but added his primary concern is to prove he has not been guilty of doping. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/A2C6/production/_127007614_gettyimages-1358485641.jpg

Boxing has become a laughing stock. It even looks like it will be left out of the Olympics because they cannot sort out the cheating.

Deontay Wilder wants to fight Anthony Joshua in Africa.ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/FE70/production/_127063156_gettyimages-1426374618.jpgDeontay Wilder returns to action on Saturday after a year out Deontay Wilder believes a bout with Anthony Joshua is still "the number one fight in the world" as he prepares to make his return to action on Saturday. Wilder, 36, last fought a year ago and faces Robert Helenius in New York on his comeback. The heavyweight's goal is to become world champion again, but Wilder also has big plans for a bout against Britain's Joshua. "I would love to do that fight in Africa," he told BBC Sport. "It's still the number one fight in the world for everyone. Everywhere I go, people always talk about me versus Joshua." There have been several classic heavyweight encounters in Africa, including Muhammad Ali's fight with George Foreman in Kinshasa in 1974. "We both have roots from there," Wilder explained. "I think it would be an amazing place to have it, to go back home. To go back to the motherland. A continent full of our people. I can just see that being an amazing fight, win, lose or draw. "I think we'll get the respect and love from all the people over there." Joshua too 'cautious' - WilderWilder seriously considered retirement after suffering successive stoppage defeats to Tyson Fury, but now says he plans to fight for another three years. Joshua and Wilder were previously in talks about an undisputed fight in 2019 and 2020 when both men were still world champions. Wilder held the WBC title while Joshua was the WBA (Super), WBO and IBF champion. Joshua recently failed to reach terms with WBC champion Fury, but Wilder is confident a deal could be struck. He said: "We're serious and we just need them to be serious as well. We tried to make the fight and it didn't happen. It's a new day and time. All things are possible." Joshua, the two-time world champion, will also soon be on the comeback trail after suffering successive defeats to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk. Wilder believes the fights with Usyk, particularly the rematch in August, showed Joshua has a "stamina" problem. "I just felt he was very cautious," Wilder said of the Watford-born fighter. "For me it looks like he has a real serious stamina problem. I feel like he didn't want to exchange a lot because of that. "It allowed him to fall back a little bit and not allow him to throw certain punches and combinations. I think if he fixed that you would see a better Joshua, not just in that fight but fights to come. "I know if he's able to get everything together, stamina and all that, I think you'll see a different Anthony Joshua."

Conor Benn wants 'apology' from critics as Ukad investigates failed drugs test.
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/F894/production/_127063636_gettyimages-1430724218.jpgConor Benn says he expects an "apology" from his critics as the investigation continues into his failed drugs test. Benn's bout with fellow Briton Chris Eubank Jr on 8 October was called off after he tested positive for the banned substance Clomifene. Promoters said his test returned an "adverse analytical finding for trace amounts of a fertility drug". UK Anti-Doping (Ukad) is investigating Benn's test. Benn said on Instagram: "I hope the apology is as loud as the disrespect." The drugs test was administered by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (Vada), a third party hired by Eubank Jr and Benn to provide extra testing for their scheduled catchweight fight. Vada are not an official partner of the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC), which adheres to Ukad's testing protocols. However, Ukad is duty-bound to investigate the case as it is a potential anti-doping violation by a boxer licensed by BBBofC, which is under its jurisdiction. If found guilty of an anti-doping violation, 26-year-old Benn could receive a suspension between two and four years. Benn's B sample will also be tested and if that also comes back positive for Clomifene, he will have the opportunity to provide any relevant information which could help explain how the substance got into his system. That could mitigate any punishment. Clomifene can be used to boost testosterone levels in men and is banned inside and outside competition by the World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada). Benn, who insists he is a "clean" fighter, and Eubank Jr were scheduled to meet in the ring at a catchweight of 157lb, 30 years after their fathers Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank Sr fought. The BBBofC said the bout was "prohibited and not in the interests of boxing" a few days before the fight, which was postponed the following day. Promoters Matchroom said the BBBofC's decision to withdraw its sanctioning was "procedurally flawed and without due process". Matchroom boss Eddie Hearn argued that because the BBBofC does not "recognise" Vada, it had no reason to call off the fight or suspend Benn.

A boxer can be a bit wild in the ring and get away with just tremendous power, so in many cases they don't need stamina or to a certain extent the intelligence. But if a boxer wants to be the best a granit chin would come in handy to take a punch or two.

Footage of a 16-year-old Mike Tyson winning via KO..
Mike Tyson and boxing, there aren’t many more iconic duos in the world, let alone the sporting world. The former heavyweight world champion was one of the most feared men in the ring, very few could compete with him.

Anthony Joshua: Briton to make ring return on 1st April in London against American Jermaine Franklin..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/12B2E/production/_128509567_gettyimages-1416212183.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/878D/production/_128510743_ca046e3b496a72054c1b49c3adc1cc021bc1aa50.jpgHeavyweight Anthony Joshua's comeback fight will take place on 1st April at the O2 Arena in London, promoter Eddie Hearn has announced. Joshua, 33, is likely to fight American Jermaine Franklin, who lost on points to Dillian Whyte last November. A news conference will be held next week to officially announce the fight. "It's a really tough fight with loads of pressure to come back because if AJ doesn't win this fight, then we've got a major problem," said Hearn. "I believe you'll see a statement from a guy who is very dangerous, very motivated to become a three-time heavyweight world champion." Joshua has lost his last two fights, both to unified heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk. The Watford fighter is a two-time heavyweight world champion and has 24 wins, as well as three defeats. Matchroom promoter Hearn dismissed the suggestion 29-year-old Franklin was an easy opponent for Joshua. Franklin was unbeaten before losing to Whyte and was unhappy with the scoring of that fight, feeling he won the contest. "There's so much contradiction: 'Anthony Joshua is finished, mentally he's shot, but he'll knock out Jermaine Franklin inside three rounds,'" Hearn told 5 Live Boxing in New York. "The same people that say Jermaine Franklin beat Dillian Whyte but he's a terrible opponent for Anthony Joshua, in a comeback fight after two defeats to the pound-for-pound number one. "What this guy has done from a resume perspective is unbelievable. "And I'm telling you now, this guy - still top-three heavyweight, capable of regaining his heavyweight world title."

Fury, 23, was the busier fighter, landing more accurate punches and demonstrating his boxing fundamentals. The former Love Island star, brother of WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, was knocked down by YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul in the eighth round. One judge scored it 75-74 to Paul, with the other two scoring it 76-73 to Fury. "For the past two years this is all that has consumed my life," an emotional Fury, who has now won all nine of his professional bouts, said on BT Sport. "Everybody thought I was running scared but tonight I made my own legacy." After dedicating the fight to his new-born baby daughter Bambi, Fury added: "This is my first main event, I am going to get bigger and better and if he wants a rematch, bring it on." Paul - who lost for the first time in his seventh professional fight - said: "All respect to Tommy, he won. Don't judge me by my wins, judge me by my losses. "I don't know if I agree with the judges, it is what it is but that is the boxing world." ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/0132/production/_128760300_gettyimages-1469806982.jpgFormer world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson was one of several boxers in attendance

It wasn't a masterpiece, but there was a lot of heart and guts. What we ask for in boxing is that the two men or women in the ring give us everything they've got and these two did. It wasn't a great boxing match, but it was a great event. They're bringing eyeballs to the sport. If Jake Paul can reach 200m people with one tweet and get it retweeted 10m times in about five minutes no matter what time he sends the tweet, then if millions and millions of new eyeballs are watching the sport, they're not all going to disappear when the boxing finishes. So how is 250,000 potentially new fans going to hurt any sport, whether it's tiddly winks or boxing? It has to be positive. ichef.bbci.co.uk/ace/standard/240/cpsprodpb/83B2/production/_128741733_bbc-sport-index-imagery-2-split-images-gradient-40fa2846-f184-4960-93d3-e91f3cc4a3f2.png

Conor Benn has 'serious concerns' about drug testing in boxing after WBC ruling over failed test..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/FB22/production/_128809246_gettyimages-1430724218.jpgConor Benn says he has "serious concerns" about the testing system in boxing after the WBC ruled his failed drugs test was not "intentional". Benn, 26, also criticised the conduct of the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) as he tried to clear his name. The WBC ruled "there were no failures in procedures" connected to Benn's sample but he disputed that claim. "My sample appears to have come back clear the first [time] it was tested," Benn said in a post on social media. "Without explanation, it was retested again after nine days and only then did it show a trace positive result." Benn failed two voluntary drug tests for the female fertility drug clomifene before his cancelled October 2022 bout with Chris Eubank Jr. "I have never previously failed any kind of anti-doping test, and passed multiple tests with both Ukad (UK Anti-Doping) and Vada (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) in close proximity to the two tests that returned adverse findings. "This adds further proof to my belief that the findings were testing errors." He added: "Everything that I have learnt during this process from talking to many experts gives me serious concerns about the whole testing system in the sport. "Anti-doping protections are obviously extremely important, but so is ensuring people are given due process and presumed innocent until proven guilty." The WBC said Benn's failed test could have been caused by a "highly-elevated consumption of eggs". "At no point did I indicate that I failed any Vada tests because of contaminated eggs," said Benn. "As part of its lengthy investigation, the WBC instructed its own experts to review my supplements and diet, and they concluded that egg contamination was the most likely cause. "Those experts have seen this issue arise in elite athletes across other sports, and I have no reason to question their analysis when it concludes I am not a cheat." Benn is still under investigation by Ukad and the BBBofC and is unable to fight in the United Kingdom as he does not have a boxing licence. In terms of the BBBofC, he was critical of the governing body and accused it of attacking him and "treating me with utter contempt". Benn added: "I wouldn't wish for my worst enemy to experience what me and my family have gone through, but next time I step into the ring I will be mentally tougher than I ever was before." Following the WBC ruling into Benn's case, the BBBofC said it was aware of the findings and said "the WBC is a sanctioning body and not a governing body". It added: "The decision of the WBC does not affect the ongoing implementation of the BBBofC's rules."

Jake Paul left red-faced as punch details from Tommy Fury fight emerge..Jake Paul might have taken the verdict on one of the judges' scorecards in his defeat to Tommy Fury in Saudi Arabia, but he was humiliated when it came to the official punching stats. It was the Englishman who prevailed in a long awaited grudge match, with scores 76-73, 76-73, 74-75 going in his favour. Many fans felt 'The Problem Child' was fortunate to even get a split verdict, given that Fury appeared in control for much of the eight rounds. That's despite being floored by Paul just moments before the final bell. The 23-year-old may not be ruing his decision not to sign and return a hastily made pre-fight contract, which would have seen him take home the full fight purse if he won, but nothing if dealt a defeat. Both fighters have verbally agreed to a rematch though and in all likelihood, another big pay day. Paul, 26, will have to land considerably more blows to take revenge though. Stats released by British Boxing News have revealed his victorious rival landed almost double the amount of punches during the bout. The American landed only 25 of his 78 jabs thrown, and only 24 of his 79 attempted power punches. In contrast, Fury nailed 39 of 154 jabs, and 49 of his 148 heftier shots. That meant that overall, the previously unbeaten Paul only struck Fury 49 times despite throwing 157 punches. The undoubtedly busier Fury came close to doubling both those figures, landing 88 of his 302 punches. The round-by-round breakdown doesn't make pretty reading for Paul either. It was Tyson's brother who landed more punches in all eight rounds, with the fourth ending up 13-2 in his favour. In no round was Paul on top in the stats, and despite trailing 8-6, 11-9, and 12-10 in the opening three, seemingly faded badly. Even his late knockdown was one of just three he nailed in the eighth, compared to Fury's eight. ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/68E2/production/_128805862_gettyimages-1469825543.jpgichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/B702/production/_128805864_gettyimages-1247520566.jpg
