ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/14C5B/production/_131438058_gooch_gettyimages-1385244855.jpg Overall champion Talor Gooch won three LIV tournaments this season - at Adelaide, Singapore and Valderrama in SpainBrooks Koepka beat Talor Gooch in a play-off to win LIV Jeddah, but the runner-up claimed £14.8m as the season's overall champion. Five-time major winner Koepka, 33, hit a two-under 68 to finish on 14 under par after three rounds at the Royal Greens course in Saudi Arabia. He was reeled in by fellow American Gooch's 62, but won the play-off with a birdie at the second extra hole. Koepka, who was third in the overall standings, earned £3.3m for the win. This year's PGA champion also earned the same again for his finish in the season's standings. Gooch, 31, had been going for a fourth tournament win of the season after back-to-back victories in Adelaide and Singapore in April and the Andalusia event at Valderrama in July. But by the time he had drawn level with Koepka to force the play-off, his multi-million-dollar victory in the overall standings had already been confirmed. Australia's 2022 Open champion Cameron Smith, 30, was second overall for the season. The LIV Golf season finishes with the Team Championship in Miami from 20th to 22nd October.

Luke Donald to remain Europe's Ryder Cup captain for 2025 edition in New York..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/120EC/production/_131846937_gettyimages-1712900460.jpg Luke Donald is a former world number one golferLuke Donald will remain Europe's Ryder Cup captain for the 2025 edition in New York after leading his team to victory in Rome in October. Donald has been victorious in all four of his appearances as a player and one as captain, guiding Europe to a 16½-11½ win over the United States. He will become the first Europe captain to serve consecutive terms since Bernard Gallacher between 1991-1995. "I'm delighted and honoured to lead Team Europe again," Donald said. "Great opportunities don't come along very often in life and I'm a great believer that when they do, you need to grab them with both hands. This is one of these moments." Having been appointed captain in August 2022 as a replacement for the ousted Henrik Stenson following the Swede's move to LIV Golf, Donald helped his side regain the trophy and ensured Europe's unbeaten home record would stretch beyond 30 years. Europe's Ryder Cup players chanted "two more years" at Donald during his speech at the 2023 trophy presentation. Among his four Ryder Cup appearances as a player, Donald's successes included the the 'Miracle at Medinah' in 2012 when he secured the first singles point of Europe's remarkable comeback. Donald had served as vice-captain in previous editions under Thomas Bjorn in 2018 and Padraig Harrington in 2021. Following the team's success in Rome, in which they regained the trophy after a 19-9 loss in Wisconsin in 2021, Jon Rahm said Donald had "done an unbelievable job" while Tommy Fleetwood added that the players were "all so proud of him". The next Ryder Cup will take place in September 2025 at Bethpage Black, which is set to join Oak Hill Country Club as the second New York course to host the event. There, Donald will seek to become only the second captain to lead Europe to victories both home and away since Tony Jacklin at The Belfry, in England, in 1985 and Muirfield Village in Ohio in 1987. Donald added: "There is no question that being a captain away from home is a tough task. "But I have never shied away from challenges throughout my career and it is precisely the kind of thing that motivates me. I can't wait to get another 12-strong team to Bethpage in 2025." Ryder Cup Results From 1927-2023:USA: P44, W27, L15, T2 = 61.36 Win % - GB, Ireland & Europe: P44, W15, L27, T2 = 34.09 Win % Next Edition will be the 45th at Farmingdale, New York - September 25th to the 28th 2025...

Tiger Woods: 15-time major champion will play until he can 'no longer win'..ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/80C4/production/_131646923_gettyimages-1480807597.jpgTiger Woods has said he will continue to play for as long as he thinks he can still win as he prepares to return to professional golf. Woods will play in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas having not played since injury forced him to withdraw from the Masters in April. The 15-time major winner then had fusion surgery on a bone in his ankle. "There will come a time when I can no longer win. When that time comes, I will walk away," Woods said. "I love to compete. I love the camaraderie, being around the guys." The 47-year-old American said earlier this month he had "zero issues" with his surgically repaired right ankle, which was done to address post-traumatic arthritis following the 2021 car crash that side lined him for nearly 14 months. However, he indicated that other injury problems remain. "The only way to fix that was to replace it or have it fused," Woods said of his ankle. "The next part is the hard part. The six months of doing nothing. The first couple months were really rough - I'm here on the good side now." The five-time Masters champion has struggled to walk 18 holes since but, after he was seen caddying for his son Charlie at the Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship earlier this month, he has decided the time is right to return to action. "I was hitting golf balls a lot trying to get Charlie ready for the event. Then, post-event, I thought, 'I can probably do this,'" Woods said. "I've played a lot of holes. I haven't used a pencil and a scorecard. "My game feels rusty. I haven't played in a while. I'm excited to compete and play. I'm just as curious as all of you are to see what happens. "I can tell you this, I don't have any of the pain I had in Augusta in my ankle. Other parts are taking the brunt of the load. But that surgery was a success." The tournament, a 20-player invitational event which will also include Justin Rose, Scottie Scheffler, Matt Fitzpatrick and Viktor Hovland, begins on Thursday in Albany, The Bahamas. Woods said he hopes to play one tournament per month in 2024 and that this event will help to determine his schedule for next season.

Tiger Woods returns to competitive golf at Hero World Challenge..
ichef.bbci.co.uk/onesport/cps/800/cpsprodpb/79A3/production/_131893113_gettyimages-1813804044.jpg Woods ended an 11-year wait to claim a 15th major when he won the 2019 MastersTiger Woods shot a three-over-par 75 on his return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. The 15-time major champion, 47, has not played since having ankle surgery after injury forced him to withdraw from the third round of the Masters in April. Woods was one under after 14 holes but double-bogeyed the 15th after his wayward drive found a bush and he sits 18th in the 20-player field at Albany. "I was rusty, I didn't have my feels," Woods told the Golf Channel. "I kind of hung through there, and I did not finish off my round when I needed to. Consequently, it kind of went sideways at the end." Open champion Brian Harman and his fellow American Tony Finau are tied for the lead on five under in the limited-field event, with England's Matt Fitzpatrick three shots behind. European Ryder Cup players Justin Rose and Sepp Straka are on level par with Viktor Hovland a stroke further back. Woods said on Tuesday that caddying for his son Charlie at a 54-hole tournament earlier in November showed him he was ready to return to competitive golf. "I'm a little bit sore, that's for sure," Woods added after the round. "We've got some stuff to do tonight to get ready for tomorrow. And then we head back into the gym and get after it tomorrow, and hopefully post a better number." Woods had fusion surgery on a bone in his ankle to address post-traumatic arthritis following the 2021 car crash that kept him out of golf for nearly 14 months The American said earlier this month he had "zero issues" with the ankle, but that other injury problems remain. He hopes to play one tournament per month in 2024 and that this event will help to determine his schedule for next season.

Ex-Ryder Cup player & Open runner-up Peter Oosterhuis dies aged 75...i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/05/02/16/84377997-0-image-a-1_1714664277869.jpgFormer Ryder Cup player Peter Oosterhuis has died at the age of 75. The Englishman, who played in six Ryder Cup matches and twice beat Arnold Palmer in the singles, had been suffering from Alzheimer's since 2014. In a fine career, Oosterhuis topped the European Tour's Order of Merit four times between 1971 and 1974 and on two occasions was runner up at The Open, having also taken a three-shot lead into the final round of the 1973 Masters. After retiring from professional golf in the mid-Nineties, Oosterhuis became one of the most popular commentators in the game with CBS in the United States. A fine story-teller, he once shared a memorable tale from the aftermath of his halved singles match with Lee Trevino in the 1973 Ryder Cup at Muirfield. i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/05/02/16/84378175-0-image-a-2_1714664443982.jpgFormer Ryder Cup player Peter Oosterhuis (centre) has died at the age of 75Oosterhuis passed away one day short of his 76th birthday.

Grayson Murray's parents say golfer took own life...
i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/05/25/20/85337327-13459915-image-a-28_1716665083013.jpg Murray and his fiancee, Christiana, after his victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii in JanuaryThe parents of Grayson Murray have said the golfer "took his own life", after the PGA Tour announced the American had died at the age of 30. Murray, a two-time winner on the tour, withdrew from this week's Charles Schwab Challenge event on Friday with illness, having played 16 holes of his second round. "We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone," said Eric and Terry Murray. "It's surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It's a nightmare. "We have so many questions that have no answers. But one. Was Grayson loved? The answer is yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and - it seems - by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed." A standout young player, Murray won three straight Junior World Championships from 2006-08. He qualified for the PGA Tour in 2016-17, aged 22, and won his first title in 2017 with victory at the Barbasol Championship. That gave him exemption on the tour to 2019 and, though he struggled with his game after that, he won back a tour spot this season. He won a second career title with victory at the Sony Open in Hawaii, which moved him to a career-high ranking of 46 in the world. Following that victory, Murray said he had been suffering with mental health issues. He also said on social media in 2021 that he had been receiving treatment for alcoholism. "We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support," Murray's parents added. "Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now. "Please respect our privacy as we work through this incredible tragedy, and please honour Grayson by being kind to one another. If that becomes his legacy, we could ask for nothing else." i.dailymail.co.uk/1s/2024/05/25/21/85338225-13459915-image-a-48_1716668184611.jpgMurray, who was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, pictured alongside golf legend John Daly
