First 3 wins on the bounce since GCs promotion challengers. They also were'nt good enough for some. Over 400 minutes since we conceded a goal,so defensively we're good. We rode our luck defensevely, the left back slot is an issue and got exposed quite a few times. We can't be that open against Exeter. I like Nick Anderton.Great big bustling player.Goes charging forward when possible, wins plenty in the air.I like the fact he's abit different,he really has to fire on all cylinders each game and then you have a player,a 100%-er. All part of a team, the skills of eg Sam Nicholson (I know different positions) and the hustle and bustle of big Nick. A nice contrast that gives JB options and keeps opposition on their toes. He became ill before ko and could'nt be play but hopefully back for Saturdays game. Personally I would'nt get too we worried about the lb position. Our lack of goals conceded recently suggests we're going something right.

Jackett sacked by Orient tonight. Feel for the bloke, they weren’t that far behind us in the game. Many, myself included, were calling for Barton’s head after the Orient game. On a footballing level only, happy to have been proven wrong. I thought Orient put up a decent fight, and were unlucky not to score. I think the decision may have already been made due to their bad run, and he was judged on the result tonight, rather than the performance. Scored 1 goal since Christmas tho

I was led to believe Sam Finley was suspended and could'nt play last night.
Obviously this was wrong.
Is it he's actually only on 9 bookings and not the reported 10 eg?

Switch to back four, consistent formation and personnel, and now we look the part. It's not just any back four though, is it? "One formation that automatically provides interesting possibilities in terms of central combination play is the 4-3-2-1 formation which was in the spotlight at various times during Carlo Ancelotti’s reign at AC Milan. It’s a formation that is seldom used nowadays although it can be argued some teams end up in similar structures when they have wingers coming inside to either halfspace instead of staying out on the touchline. Ancelotti deployed it with a back four, a midfield three of the creative Andrea Pirlo as a deep-lying playmaker, a regista, and the combative all-action duo of Massimo Ambrosini and Gennaro Gattuso either side of Pirlo. Ahead of them were a duo of creative souls in Clarence Seedorf and Kaká while Filippo Inzaghi, Hernán Crespo and Andriy Shevchenko all spent time as the lone striker. In certain games, Seedorf would replace Ambrosini to make Milan more attacking with Rui Costa coming in as one of the attacking midfielders. Milan’s team was based around the creative talents of Seedorf, Pirlo and Kaká and the best way to utilise their qualities and maintain balance in the side was the 4-3-2-1 or the 4-3-1-2 which they also used regularly." One of the drawbacks with this formation is that it allows the full backs to bomb forward, leaving space behind them for the opposing wide men to exploit. Harry Andersson had a good game because he's obviously suited to this formation and covers a lot of ground. Collins is the perfect lone striker.

Also first half we seemed to improve when Billy Elliott and Evans swapped positions.

Tremendous performance once again with the Gasheads in fine voice. I didn’t hear one fan complaining that JB isn’t fit to manage Rovers, Shoveller et el must have stayed at home.
I thought we ceded possession to them in the 2nd half which I don’t like. A more competent team would have scored 1, possibly 2 goals. I hope Anderson and the others were taken off for rotation reasons. As good as Loft was on Saturday so he was as bad last night.

Lovely to hear "Tijuana Taxi" by Herb Alpert, accompanying the teams, as they entered the field of play.

The O's would probably have got a draw if Matt Harold had been up front instead of the number 9...........

UTG Completely agree with your comment that a more competent team would have scored. We still look a little naive at the back at times! Time to get your defensive coach in the office and give him a rollocking Joey before our good fortune runs out!

Our second goal.
Anderton cutting inside from the left and the ball he plays behind the O's defence, slightly cut back towards the left is spot on and the kind of 'pass' I've not seen too often at Rovers. There must be examples but i can't think of any right now!
Then the decent shot, save and Aaron is on hand to do his thing.
Top division stuff.
Skill, determination, vision of perfectly timed pass, runners, decent shot saved, with a 'Gert Muller' type of finish from Aaron.
Great football.
